Chapter 200
The Lord Mayor Falls in Love with Me
The engagement party would be held tomorrow. Joey was both happy and nervous.
The store called Joey to try on the beautiful engagement dress that was worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in the afternoon. If it didnât fit or satisfy her, they would adjust it on the spot.
Allen had gone to work, so he couldnât go to the store with her. Joey called her best friend Sarah, because she wanted to share the happiness with her.
Unfortunately, Sarahâs younger brother Patrick had gotten worse recently in the hospital. Apart from work hours when she had to deal with John Walter and his twin lovers, Sarah had to spend the rest of her time with her parents and her poor brother. She couldnât make time to see Joey. She could only stay for one hour in Joeyâs engagement party tomorrow.
Joey understood Sarahâs dilemma. She comforted Sarah with a few words and hung up the phone.
The owner of the wedding dress store brought the engagement dress for Joey to try it on with the help of her maids Seventeen and Eighteen.
Just then, Joeyâs phone rang. It was Yolanda.
Yolanda hadnât shown up again since the last time Joey had seen her. Joeyâs pregnancy depression had improved a lot under the guidance of Allen and her psychiatrist these days. But she couldnât help feeling nervous when Yolanda suddenly called her.
âHello!â Joey hesitated for a moment before she answered it.
âI knew you would answer my call.â There came Yolandaâs arrogant voice from the other end of the phone, âIâm at Sky Café right now. Why donât you come over and sit down with me for a while? I have something to say to you in person.â
Joey tightened her grip on the phone and said calmly, âI have nothing to say to you. So donât ever bother me again.â
Yolanda smiled disapprovingly, âYouâd better come and see me, if you want the engagement party to go well tomorrow. Otherwise, Iâm not sure what will happen tomorrow. Remember, you have to come alone.â
Before Joey could respond, she had hung up the phone.
Joey frowned deeply when the phone hung up. She was getting engaged tomorrow. What the hell did Yolanda want to do?
Joey really didnât want to see Yolanda. She had disliked Yolanda very much since their last encounter. But she knew that Yolanda was definitely a determined and ruthless girl who would do whatever she had said. She was afraid that something unexpected and terrible would happen at her engagement party if she didnât go to see Yolanda.
The Lord Mayor Falls in Love with Me ï¤Chapter 199 Iâll fight to the end Joey made up her mind. She said to Seventeen and Eighteen who were trying to put the dress on her, âIâd like to try it on later. Iâve to go to the bathroom first. Why donât you two hold the dress before it creases?â
âYes, Miss Joey.â Her maids answered obediently and held the engagement dress in their hands. They had gotten along very well with Joey these days, and they had lowered their guard around Joey.
Therefore, Joey easily left the store alone and took a taxi to the Sky Café to meet Yolanda. However, she couldnât find Yolanda anywhere after she walked into the café. There was someone covering his/her face with a piece of newspaper at a table near the window. Joey assumed that it was Yolanda and went over to the table.
The person slowly put down his newspaper when Joey approached him.
âBen Hawk?â
Joey suddenly went pale when she saw the face behind the newspaper. She subconsciously took a step back, âWhat are you doing here?â
It was definitely not a coincidence.
Ben Hawk smiled and his wicked eyes made her blood run cold, âIâm the one who really has something to say to you and I told Yolanda to ask you out. Why donât you sit down? I think we need to talk it over. Donât worry. What am I going do to you in public? Besides, my leg is still in a plaster cast. I couldnât do anything to you even if I want to.â
He deliberately patted his right leg in a thick plaster cast to show that he meant no harm this time.
Joey realized that she had been fooled by Yolanda.
But since when had Ben Hawk and Yolanda hooked up with each other?
They had been total strangers. How did they get know each other?
The thought made her even more nervous. She had instinctively wanted to turn around and run away, but she knew she couldnât. She sat stiffly across from Ben Hawk and said with a straight face, âWhat do you want to say?â
