Chapter 127
Amberâs Pov
I could feel the tension crackling in the air as Richardâs usually calm demeanor was replaced by a
dark cloud of anger. The look in his eyes sent a shiver down my spine, an intensity that I had never
seen before. It was unsettling, to say the least.
âRichard, are you okay?â I asked tentatively, watching him pace back and forth in the room. It almost
looked like he was boiling in anger, and it made me wonder why he was this furious just because
mentioned that I saw Angela.
He let out a heavy sigh, his steps faltering as he turned to face me. âAmber, I honestly still canât
believe you saw Angela at the scene of your accident. That is shocking. Itâs insane,â he said, his
voice holding a hint of disbelief as he struggled to come to terms with it.
I furrowed my brow, trying to make sense of his reaction. âI know itâs strange, Richard, but Iâm not
saying that just because I saw her, I think sheâs in any way responsible for the accident. I mean, it
was definitely strange that she appeared right in front of me just when I was sl*pping into an
unconscious state, but I donât necessarily think Angela had anything to do with the accident just
because she was there. It could end up being a coincidence.â I offered, hoping to ease his growing
unease.
Richard shook his head resolutely, his expression grim. âYou donât understand, Amber. I know Angela
better than you think, and I worked with her specifically because I knew just what she was capable
I crossed my arms with an intrigued look on my face, feeling a sense of frustration growing in me.
âBut Richard, it still doesnât add up. I mean, sheâs Angela. And as far as Iâm concerned, sheâs a
nob*dy. If someone had sabotaged my car, it would have been during the time I was visiting my father
in jail, and as far as Iâm concerned, only Kayden or Marlene would have the power and resources to pull something like that off in such a secured place.â
Richardâs brows furrowed in contemplation, his eyes searching mine as if deep in thought. âAmber, I
know it sounds farâfetched, but you canât underestimate Angela. Sheâs cunning and manipulative, and you would be surprised that she has quite a lot of connections.â
I struggled to wrap my head around the possibility, a knot of worry tightening in my chest. âBut why would she target me? We barely even knew each other, Richard. It just doesnât make sense.ââ

Richardâs jaw clenched, and I could tell that he was frustrated. âYou donât know her, but she knows you, Amber. I know Iâve never really explained my relationship with her before, but Angela and I had something going on for a few months, but I ended it because of how obsessive she started being. It was barely a month after I ended things with her that I met you, and we got married,â he explained. âIf truly Angela is behind the accident, then Iâm sure that she did it because of the grudge she has against me; that would be the only possible motive she could have.â
I let out an exasperated groan, my frustration mounting as I shook my head at Richard, incredulous. âSo let me get this straight, Richard. Not only do I have to deal with my crazy little sister and my sick exâhusband, but now I have to worry about your obsessed exâgirlfriend too.â I hissed, my tone dripping with irritation.
Richard sighed, a deep crease forming between his brows as he ran a hand through his hair in frustration. âAmber, what you just told me about Angela being at the scene of your accident⦠it kind of confirms something thatâs been bothering me for a while.â
I raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued by his cryptic statement. âWhat are you talking about, Richard? Whatâs been bothering you?â
Richard let out another sigh, his gaze dropping to the floor before meeting mine. âAmber, please donât be upset that I didnât tell you sooner. But during the time of the incident in Vegas where
drugs were found in my fatherâs house, I went through some of the security footage from the party he
attended.â
My frown deepened. âGo on, Richard. What did you find in the footage?â I urged him.
âWell, I saw a blurry cl*p of a woman approaching my father at the party. And although she had a
different hairstyle, there was something about her that made her feel familiar, and I couldnât shake
the feeling that she looked a bit like Angela, and itâs been bothering me for a while now.
â
My eyes widened a little. âWait, are you suggesting that Angela might have been the one to plant the drugs in your fatherâs house?â
Richard nodded solemnly, his expression serious. âItâs a possibility, Amber. But the problem is, my
fatherâs memory of that night is still hazy. So he still canât identify if Angela was the woman he
met at the party.â
I couldnât help but stare at Richard with a tired look on my face. âRichard, why didnât you tell me
all of this sooner?â I asked, my voice tinged with a hint of disappointment. âAnd more importantly,
why do I get the feeling that you might have been trying to protect Angela?â

Richardâs expression faltered, his gaze meeting mine with a mixture of guilt and regret. âAmber, I didnât tell you because I wasnât sure yet. And⦠a lot was going on with you, especially with everything that was happening with Kayden and Marlene. I just didnât feel it was necessary to talk about something I wasnât sure about.â
I furrowed my brow. âAlright, Richard, I understand, but what if youâre right and Angela is potentially responsible for trying to kill me? What do you think we should do? Should we tell the police to lock up now, or should they just keep an eye on her for now?â I asked, curious to hear his
response.
Richardâs eyes softened a bit, reassurance shining through his gaze. âAmber, donât you worry about Angela? Iâll handle her myself. Right now, your health is the most important thing. You need to focus on getting better, for your sake and the babyâs sake,â he instructed.
I immediately knew he was avoiding telling me what he had in mind, but I decided against pressing him further. âSpeaking of my health, Richard, I want you to exaggerate my accident to the reporters. I want them to think that I am in such a critical condition that I could die at any moment, and it
would be so exaggerated that everyone would think I wonât make it.â
The plan was risky; there was no denying that, but now that I knew I had a baby on the way, I needed to speed things up, and what better way to trap Marlene than to make her think she was on the verge
of getting what she wanted?
âWhy must people think youâre dying, Amber? I donât get it,â Richard responded, his skepticism
obvious.
As I watched him furrow his brows in confusion, I took a deep breath, preparing to explain my
audacious idea. âRichard, I want people to think Iâm dying because if Iâm right about Marlene
starting to lose her mind and act out, then I can use the media to lure her right where I want her.â
Richardâs expression was one of disbelief, his eyes searching mine for any sign of doubt. âAmber,
pretending to be in a critical condition means youâd have to remain in the hospital much longer. Are you sure you want to go through with this?â
I met his gaze with unwavering resolve, feeling a sense of clarity as I stood firm in my decision.
âThatâs exactly what I want, Richard. I need you to make it seem to the media that Iâm in a terrible
coma and that Iâm only hanging on by a thread.â
Richard nodded slowly, a glimmer of understanding dawning in his eyes as he processed the
implications of my plan. âIâsee what youâre getting at, Amber. Iâll make sure to ask for the doctorâs
cooperation and Iâll alen bring in Notortivo Carria co vou can chare what vau have in mind with him

cooperation, and Iâll also bring in Detective Garcia so you can share what you have in mind with him, just in case.
âThank you, babe. And also, donât leave me alone without enough security. I wouldnât underestimate Marlene, and I canât afford to take any chances,â I said to him, and he simply scoffed before telling me that I didnât even need to ask.
With a smile on my face, I looked Richard in the eye and told him. âI can feel it, Richard; this will all be over soon. Iâll make sure of it.â
