Married To My Ex-Husband’s Rival by Jobet GraySon
Chapter Twenty Four
Third person POV
Amber and Richard stepped past the towering doors of the Romero Mansion, their footsteps echoing i the opulent foyer.
Almost immediately, they were greeted by Martha Romero, a poised and elegant woman who exudes an air
of authority. Recognition flickered across Amberâs eyes as she realized that this was the woman she had spent the entire night researching. Marthaâs warm smile welcomed them, but there was a glint of skepticism in her eyes as she sized up Amber.
âAmber, welcome to our home,â Martha said, her voice a blend of kindness and curiosity. She couldnât help but be pleased with what she saw before herâa beautiful girl who seemed to radiate beauty and
grace. However, Martha knew that appearances could be deceiving, and she was determined to discern if
Amber was indeed the right fit for her son.
Richardâs eyes darted around the grand entrance hall, briefly scanning for his father. When he didnât
spot him, a furrow formed on his brow. âMom, whereâs Dad?â he asked, his tone laced with concern.
Marthaâs smile remained unwavering as she responded. âYour father will join us in the dining areal
shortly. Please, follow me,â she said, gesturing for Amber to walk alongside her.
Amberâs smile remained fixed on her face as she followed Martha, trying her utmost to suppress her excitement. She refused to give in to her starstruck curiosity, fearful of giving Martha the
impression that she was merely interested in the Romero familyâs wealth. Instead, she focused her gaze ahead, resolute in her determination to present herself as a genuine and caring partner for
Richard.
With Richard close by her side, the trio walked through the spacious corridors of the mansion. The
glimpses of extravagant rooms and lavish decor teased Amberâs senses, sending a thrill through her veins. But she pushed those thoughts aside, keeping her attention trained on Marthaâs poised figure
leading the way.
Finally, they arrived at the threshold of the grand dining room. Amberâs heart fluttered in her chest
as she caught the glimpses of Raymond Romero, Richardâs father, already seated at the head of the
table.
Raymondâs stern countenance exuded an aura of authority and restraint, making Amberâs nervousness intensify.

Summoning her courage, Amber approached Raymond, her voice quivering slightly as she greeted him
âMr. Romero, itâs a pleasure to meet you,â she said, her eyes meeting his searching gaze.
Raymond acknowledged her greeting with a curt nod, his expression revealing little emotion. According to the research she had done, she already established the fact that he was a man of few words, even
though his silence spoke volumes. Without further ado, he gestured for Amber to take a seat.
Amber obeyed, sl*pping gracefully into the chair beside Richard. She couldnât help but feel the
weight of Raymondâs scrutiny upon her. The room fell into an uncomfortable silence as Raymond continued to observe her, his piercing gaze unyielding.
Determined to break the tension, Amber mustered her confidence and engaged Raymond in conversal
âThank you for having me, Mr. Romero. Iâve heard so much about you and your wife from Richard,â she
began, her voice steady but tinged with nervousness.
Raymond cleared his throat, his gaze penetrating as he prepared to address Amber directly. âAmber, I believe in being straightforward. I donât like wasting my time,â he began, his tone brusque and
businessâlike.
Richard interjected quickly, his voice laced with a touch of frustration. âDad, can we at least have
lunch before you start with the interrogation?â he pleaded, hoping to ease the tension.
Raymondâs eyes narrowed, his gaze turning on his son. âRichard, this is an important matter. It
shouldnât be taken lightly. We need to get started with the necessary conversations,â he replied
sharply, his impatience evident in his voice.
Amber sensed the tension between father and son, and she exchanged a quick glance with Richard.
Seeing the worry etched on his face, she summoned her courage and spoke up. âMr. Romero, I understand your concern, but I assure you Iâm ready to discuss anything youâd like to know,â she said, her voice
steady.
Raymondâs expression softened slightly, and he nodded in acknowledgment. âVery well,â he replied, hi voice more measured. âLetâs proceed then. Iâll start with a simple question. What do you do for a
living?
Amber mentally sighed, realizing that this question held significant weight in Raymondâs eyes. She took a deep breath before answering honestly. âWell, I used to work as a project manager in a construction company. However, I recently quit my job as Iâm currently exploring my options and
figuring out my next steps.â
Raymond shook his head slightly, his disappointment thinly veiled. Amberâs heart sank, the unease
growing in ner, Sne wondered it his disapproval stemmed from her lack of a stable job.
Before Amber could fully process Raymondâs reaction, he fired off another question, his tone sharp. âWould you be willing to sign a prenuptial agreement if you were to marry my son?â he inquired, his eyes fixed on her intently.
Amber forced a smile, determined to show her sincerity. âMr. Romero, I actually already signed a prenuptial agreement,â she explained, her voice steady. âI have no interest in taking anything from Richard. My intention is to build a life together based on love and mutual respect.â
Raymond sighed, his sharp gaze softening slightly. He had expected a different response, perhaps a
defensive argument or hesitation. But Amberâs answer surprised him, eaming a modicum of respect from
him.
