Chapter 36
Married To My Ex-Husband’s Rival by Jobet GraySon
Chapter Thirty Six
Third Person POV.
Richard stared at Amber, annoyance etched across his face as he demanded an explanation for her unexpected presence in his room.
Amber stood frozen in place, shock pulsing through her veins, rendering her speechless. His irritated tone only fueled her discomfort, and she struggled to find her voice amidst the brewing tension in the room.
âWhy⦠why are you staring at me like that?â Richardâs voice dripped with irritation. âAre you some kind of pervert?â
Amber snapped out of her daze, her wide eyes widening even further as panic coursed through her. âNâno Iâm not a pervert,â she stammered, her words tumbling over one another in her haste. âIâI apologize
if I looked strange. That wasnât my intention.â
His annoyance seemed to deepen, Richardâs brow furrowing as he regarded her carefully. âThen what are you doing in my room?â he asked.
Amberâs stuttered response spilled out, her words faltering as she struggled to compose herself. âI⦠I tried to call for a servant to help me with the zipper on my wedding dress, so I could take
it off. But no one answered, and⦠and I didnât know what to do. You were the only person I could think of for help.â She finished her explanation.
Richard let out a long sigh, his impatience seemingly overshadowed by exasperation. âYou could have at least waited outside my room,â he retorted. âYouâve infringed on my privacy by barging in without
permission.â
Amberâs cheeks flushed with embarrassment, and she dropped her gaze to the floor. âI⦠I apologize,â she murmured. âYouâre right. I shouldnât have come in without asking.â
Richardâs stern expression softened slightly as he looked at her. âIs it only your wedding dress that
you need help with?â
Amber nodded meekly, unable to meet his gaze. âYes, thatâs all,â she replied.

He let out another sigh, his gaze briefly wandering around the room before settling back on Amber. âFine,â he conceded. âWait outside my room. Let me get dressed first, and then Iâll assist you with
your dressâs zipper.â
Amber nodded again, grateful for his offer of help despite the friction between them. She turned to leave, her steps hesitant as she made her way towards the door. As she reached for the handle, her hand paused, and she mustered the courage to speak up.
âIâm sorry, Richard,â she said. âI didnât mean to invade your privacy. It wonât happen again.â
Amber walked out the door, and stood outside Richardâs door, her mind buzzing with a chaotic mix of thoughts and emotions. She couldnât help but feel a heightened awareness of what had transpired moments earlier her unexpected intrusion, her glimpse of Richardâs shirtless form. The memory played on a loop in her mind, amping up her curiosity and conflicting feelings.
The tattoos. That was what had struck her the most. The sight of the designs etched on Richardâs skin had mesmerized her. It was something she hadnât expected, and she couldnât help but be slightly curious about him, his tattoos, and what she would have seen if his towel had sl*pped.
She fought against the creeping blush that had stained her cheeks when her thoughts steered towards a more provocative path. She scolded herself internally, berating her wandering mind and those pesky whatâif scenarios. She refused to think of herself as a pervert, but the lure of the illicit thoughts whispered in her mind was hard to ignore.
Biting her l*p, Amber refocused her attention on the tattoos. She mentally retraced the ones she had managed to glimpse earlier the striking face, the smaller designs, and the quotes. Counting them, she estimated there were at least five tattoos scattered across his skin.
Lost in contemplation, Amberâs thoughts eventually circled back to her original purpose for being here She needed to talk to Richard, to understand why he had been so cold towards her lately. She needed to address the tension that had settled between them, and perhaps find a way to clear the air.
As if in response to her thoughts, the door to Richardâs bedroom swung open. He appeared in the doorway, now dressed in a simple tâshirt and shorts, a more approachable version of himself. His eyes met hers, and he beckoned her inside.
âCome in,â he said. âLetâs get this over with.â
Amber stepped into the room, and Richardâs eyes scanned the room briefly before he turned to face

âDo I have to âunzip the entire dress?â Richard asked. âI donât want to accidentally expose you.â
Amberâs l*ps quirked into a small smile as she shook her head. âNo, Richard. You donât have to unzip the whole dress,â she replied. âThe zipper is a bit hidden, but itâs there. If you just unzip it a bit from the top, I can take it from there.â
Richardâs shoulders sagged in relief, a soft sigh escaping his l*ps. âThank goodness,â he mumbled, trailing his fingers over the fabric of her dress.
Amberâs breath hitched as she felt the light graze of Richardâs fingers on her back. Her b*dy tensed
for a moment before she willed herself to relax, reminding herself that his touch was innocent. She
mentally chided herself for her sudden reaction, her mind wandering back to their earlier encounter.
Richardâs fingers continued their gentle exploration, inching their way down her back, searching for
the hidden zipper. Time seemed to stretch on, each passing moment filled with anger. Amber held her
breath, her heart pounding in her chest.
Finally, Richardâs fingers found what they were searching for. He zipped the dress down with Amberâs
hand guiding him through the process of what was enough for Amber to take over, and their fingers grazed as the transition was made.
âIâm done,â Richard announced. âYou can turn around now.â
Amber spun on her heels to face him, her eyes locked on his. âThank you, Richard,â she said. âI
really appreciate your help.â
Richard nodded, his gaze still strict before he cleared his throat, pushing back the intensity of the
moment. âYouâre welcome,â he replied.
Amber hesitated, realizing that her task wasnât yet complete. She had something to say to Richard, something that needed to be addressed. She took a step towards the door, preparing to leave, while summoning the courage to speak her mind.
But before she could take another step, she froze in her tracks, a sudden determination filling her.
She turned back to face Richard, determination etched on her face.
âYouâre not going to bed now, are you?â Amber asked.

Richard blinked in confusion, caught off guard by her sudden inquiry. âUm⦠no, I was planning on staying up for a while,â he replied. âWhy do you ask?â
A small smile played at the corners of Amberâs l*ps. âGood. Thatâs good,â she said. âBecause I want to talk to you. I have something to say, and I wonât take ânoâ for an answer.â
