Chapter Forty One
Amberâs POV.
The Colonel stared at me with a confused look on his face, his brow furrowed in disbelief. âMiss Grey, are you serious right now?â he asked.
I chuckled lightly, nodding my head. âYes, Colonel Miller, I am being very serious,â I replied, making sure to maintain eye contact. âI genuinely want your help in screwing over my exâhusband, Kayden Blackâ
His expression shifted from confusion to curiosity, leaning in closer as if he couldnât believe what he was hearing. âAnd how exactly do you want to screw him over? By getting me to pull BW construction out of the project and handing it to Romero?â he inquired cautiously.

I couldnât help but laugh at the ridiculousness of it all, enjoying the fact that I managed to trigger his curiosity. âWell, Colonel, taking the project away from BW Construction and giving it to
my
y own company is just the first phase,â I explained, relishing in the thrill of the plan taking shape. âYou see, I know why Kayden is so desperate for this project, and I want to take it away from him to
hurt him. But thatâs just the beginning.â
Confusion flickered across the Colonelâs face as he processed my words. âAnd why, according to you,
is Mr. Black so desperate for this project?â
A sly smile spread across my l*ps as I leaned back in my chair, savoring the moment. âSorry to say, Colonel, but Kayden isnât interested in the 401 project because he actually cares about it,â I declared, relishing the anticipation of revealing my secret knowledge. âNo, he wants it because he sees it as a way to meet the Governorship election candidate, Mr. Karl Maxwell.â
The Colonelâs frown deepened, visibly surprised by my revelation. My heart raced with excitement, knowing that my carefully crafted web of halfâtruths was beginning to snare him in. I continued, knowing that I had his full attention.
âKayden is not only trying to meet Maxwell but also proposing himself as the figurehead of the 401
project.â I divulged. âHe wants to help Maxwell avoid sharing the profits with you, Colonel, by putting himself at the forefront, and getting you removed.â
As I watched the Colonelâs face turn dark with anger, I knew that my seeds of doubt were taking root

While what I said wasnât entirely accurate, it had enough elements of truth to make it believable.
I had overheard Kayden talking to his assistant one day, and although I wasnât entirely certain of his motives, I felt confident that what I had shared with the Colonel was more than enough to ignite his suspicion.
Colonel Miller let out an exasperated sigh, his frustration evident as he seemed to struggle with comprehending my confidence. âLetâs be realistic Amber dear, how can you be so sure about all of this?â he asked, his voice laced with skepticism.
I shrugged nonchalantly. âWell, Colonel, you see, I was married to Kayden for two long years,â I replied, my tone dripping with irritation at the reminder. âWe may have only recently divorced, but I know him a lot better than a lot of people. I do. I know every d*rty secret, every trick up his sleeve, and I can tell you for a fact, that he is capable of anything. Heâs unscrupulous.
I watched as Millerâs eyebrows furrowed. âDo you really think Iâd approach you so confidently ifl didnât have absolute certainty that my exâhusband is a greedy and cunning bastard?â I added.
A chuckle escaped the Colonelâs l*ps. âWell, Amber, I must say, I never thought Iâd find myself
caught in the midst of a scorned exâwifeâs plot for revenge,â he remarked.
I scoffed lightly. âWhat else would you expect from a woman whose husband cheated on her with her own
sister, and had the audacity to marry her?â I replied. âIâd like to think my wish to get revenge is
very justified.â.
I noticed a flicker of discomfort cross the Colonelâs face, a sign that my words had caught him off
guard. I mentally smiled, knowing very well that with each word I said, the Colonel became more and
more doubtful about Kayden.
I also knew that another huge reason why he was still seated and listening to me was most likely
because of the perverted thoughts he had of me in his head, but I couldnât care less as long as
thoughts remained in his head, and he tried nothing with me.
His expression softened, a tinge of sympathy replacing his previous skepticism. âKayden must be a
fool to have cheated on a beautiful and intelligent woman like you, Amber,â he remarked.
I forced a smile in his direction, âOh, Colonel, believe me, Kayden is a fool in more ways than one,â
I replied.

With deliberate poise, I locked eyes with Colonel Miller, my gaze unwavering. âI donât intend to pressure you or manipulate you into helping me, Colonel,â I assured him, my tone sincere. âBut I believe you would appreciate the satisfaction of aiding a scorned woman in her quest for revenge. So what do you say? Can I count on you, Sir?â
I watched Colonel Miller intently as he remained lost in thought, his brows furrowed in
contemplation. It was evident that my request had caught him off guard, leaving him to mull over the possible outcomes.
After a moment, he cleared his throat and finally spoke, his voice cautious and measured.
âAnd what do I get in return if I decide to help you, Amber?â the Colonel inquired.
I wasnât surprised by his question; after all, no one does something for nothing. I took a deep breath, bracing myself for what his response might entail. âWell, Colonel, what is it that you want?â I replied.
Millerâs l*ps curled into a pervaded smile, his gaze lingering on my figure. âI wouldnât mind having a gorgeous woman like you in my bed, Amberâ
The boldness of his suggestion made my skin crawl with disgust, but I couldnât let it show, I forced a chuckle, masking my revulsion. âColonel, letâs be realistic here,â I retorted sharply. âSurely your can come up with a more respectable request.â
Disappointment flickered across the Colonelâs face briefly before he composed himself. âFair enough,â he said. âThen, Amber, what do you have in mind? Itâs clear youâve thought this through.â
A sly smile crept across my face as I saw an opportunity to not only secure his cooperation but also play to his greed. âHow about this, Colonel? Instead of settling for a measly cut from the project, I offer you ten percent of the projectâs budget,â I suggested. âThat roughly amounts to a hundred million dollars, far exceeding whatever Maxwell could have ever offered you.â
Millerâs eyes widened in surprise, his skepticism momentarily sl*pping away. âA hundred million. dollars?â he repeated. âAnd how do you intend to make that happen, Amber?â
I smirked, fully aware that I had piqued his interest. âAll you have to do, Colonel, is make sure the project lands in the hands of Romero Constructions,â I explained confidently. âOnce thatâs done, youâll witness firsthand how I intend to turn those plans into a reality.â

Miller chuckled softly, his amusement evident. He extended his hand toward me. With a mixture of caution and pride, I reached out and took his hand, sealing our twisted deal. âMiss Grey, we have a deal,â he declared, and I smiled, feeling a sense of accomplishment that I hadnât felt in a long time.
