Chapter 42
Married To My Ex-Husband’s Rival by Jobet GraySon
Chapter Forty Two
Third Person POV.
Angela settled herself on the plush couch in Richardâs living room, her mind still reeling from their
slightly awkward exchange at the doorstep. Her eyes scanned the room, taking in the familiar
surroundings.
The air felt heavy with unresolved tension, and the silence between them was suffocating. Richard
stood in front of her, his expression unimpressed and aloof.
With a hint of disregard, Richard asked her if sheâd like some water.
Angela frowned. âWhen I suggested we have a drink, Richard, I meant a glass of wine together or a few
shots of vodka, not water,â she retorted.
N She had hoped for a more relaxed atmosphere, a chance to reconnect. But it seemed Richard had
different intentions.
Richard scoffed at her words before replying curtly. âIf youâre not ready to make do with water,
youâre welcome to use the door and go back home.â His words stung, and she couldnât hide it.
She rolled her eyes at his dismissive tone, her frustration mounting. She couldnât understand why he
was being so harsh. âWhy are you being so mean to me, Richard?â she questioned. âAre you afraid that
your wife will see me here and misunderstand? Or are you upset with me about something?â
Richardâs eyes met hers, a look of disbelief and annoyance on his face. âDoes it make sense for you
to be here at 8 pm, in my place where I live with my wife? Do you think itâs appropriate?â he
retorted.
Angela sneered at him, her irritation evident. âIf youâre so concerned about being a good husband,â
she shot back. âyou shouldnât have let me inside in the first place.â
Richard sighed, the pressure of the situation bearing down on him. He had known that he shouldnât
have allowed her inside at this hour, but a sense of curiosity compelled him to hear her out. There
was something she wanted to say, he could feel it. Gathering his thoughts, he spoke with a mixture of
frustration and caution..

âThe only reason I let you in,â he began, âis because I knew you wouldnât have been foolish enough to show up without a reason Iâm willing to hear you out, Angela. But you better make it quick.â
Angela let out an exasperated sigh, a wave of frustration sweeping over her as she tried to reason.
with Richard.
She couldnât understand why he was so resistant to a simple conversation and treated her like she was a plague. âRichard, please, sit down,â she pleaded, motioning to the nearby armchair. âWe need to
talk like two adults.â
Richard stood with a stubborn resolve, his gaze unwavering. âIâm fine standing.â he replied curtly. âAnd would you please get straight to the point? Itâs getting late already.â
Angelaâs frustration deepened as she mustered the courage to address the heart of her confusion. âHow did you get married so suddenly, Richard?â she blurted out. âWhy didnât you think it was worth
mentioning to me?â
Richard furrowed his brows in genuine confusion. âWhy on earth would I tell you before getting
married?â he shot back.
It was clear to him that Angelaâs expectations had been drastically misplaced, and he couldnât
understand why.
Angelaâs expression hardened, her confusion transforming into rage. âBecause to my knowledge, you didnâ t even have a girlfriend,â she exclaimed. âYou rejected getting into a relationship with me, claiming that relationships werenât your thing. So, forgive me for being surprised when I find out youâre married after just two months.â
Richardâs eyes flickered with a mix of annoyance and frustration. He sighed heavily, the weight of the conversation pressing against him. âYes, Angela, relationships werenât my thing,â he began, âbut I can still make choices in my life without consulting you. I have always been transparent about where you stood to me, but you were the one who tried to insist that we become something more. Donât blame me for disappointing your delusion.â
The words left his l*ps like a bitter aftertaste, his frustration simmering beneath the surface.
Angelaâs gaze bore into his, her disbelief evident. âRichard, you canât talk to me like that,â she retorted. âWe were involved, we had something. And then you go and get married without so much as second thought as to how Iâd feel.â

Angelaâs features softened, her eyes searching his face for understanding. âWhat else did you think I would say, Richard?â she questioned. âYou know me well enough to understand that I wouldnât just let this go.â
Richard ran a hand through his hair, memories of their complicated past resurfacing. Angela had been his employee a few months ago until Kayden had attempted to recruit her in an effort to spite him and
gather information about his business.

At the time of her recruitment, he and Angela had been lovers with no exclusivity, a fact he had been upfront about. He had even encouraged her to work as a double agent, hoping to gain insight into Kaydenâs activities through her, but as soon as he put an end to their S*xual relationship and told her clearly that heâd never fall in love with her, she had ghosted him, and he never bothered to
reach out.
Richardâs arms remained tightly folded across his chest as he stared at Angela, his frustration evident in his furrowed brows. âIf you didnât come here to talk about Kayden and what I asked you to look into, then I have no reason to welcome you into my house,â he stated firmly. âI want you to
leave.â
Angela scoffed at his words, a bitter chuckle escaping her l*ps. She shook her head, her frustration mirroring his. âIâm not leaving,â she retorted defiantly. âNot until I see for myself the woman you married. Iâm curious to know who managed to change your mind about marriage and relationships.â

Richardâs eyes hardened, his patience wearing thin. He felt as if Angela was crossing boundaries she had no business crossing. âThis is none of your concern, Angela,â he shot back. âYou didnât come here to resume the job I assigned you, and you have no reason to be anywhere near me or my personal life. Leave before I call security.â
Angelaâs frown deepened She refused to let Richard chase her away without answering her questions. âWhatâs the problem with me meeting your wife, Richard?â she questioned. âI think I deserve to at least see the woman who has managed to capture your heart.â
Before Richard could respond, the unmistakable sound of a voice filled the room. Angela and Richard
turned their heads simultaneously to find Amber standing in the doorway of the living room, a look of
unimpressed curiosity etched on her face.
Amber held Angelaâs gaze, her eyes assessing and guarded. She wondered who the strange woman was, an why she was in her house, and with her husband at this time.
âAnd why do you want to meet me?â she asked.
