Marlene stormed into Kaydenâs office, her face contorted with annoyance. She couldnât contain her frustration any longer, and she wanted him to know it.
Kaydenâs surprise was evident as he watched her entrance, his worry etching lines on his forehead. âBabe, is everything alright? Are you feeling any pain? Is something wrong with the baby?â he asked, concern evident in his voice.
Marleneâs annoyance only deepened at his immediate concern for her wellâbeing. âDo I look like Iâm in pain?â she retorted sharply, her tone laced with exasperation.
Kayden blinked, taken aback by her response. âNo, but you do seem upset. Whatâs going on, babe?â h probed gently, his eyes searching her face, his concern shifting from her physical health to her
emotional state.
Letting out an exasperated sigh, Marlene decided to cut to the chase. âHavenât you seen the news yet? Itâs everywhere and I expect you to have heard by now!â she exclaimed, her frustration palpable.
Confusion flickered across Kaydenâs features as he struggled to process her words. âWhat news are you talking about, Marlene?â he asked, his voice tinged with curiosity and growing worry.
Marleneâs voice rose in anger as she snapped, âAmber got remarried to Richard Romero, and you donât even seem to care!â The disbelief in her voice was palpable.
A realization dawned on Kaydenâs face, and he nodded slowly. âOh yes, I saw the news,â he admitted quietly, his eyes dropping slightly.
Marleneâs surprise grew, her tone in disbelief. âSo you already knew about it, and yet, youâre so calm? How can you be calm about this, Kayden?â she demanded, her frustration escalating.
Kayden let out a sigh, his gaze meeting Marleneâs. âWhat did you expect me to do, Marlene? Itâs Amberâs choice, and I canât control that. I honestly donât care who that goodâforânothing marries or whatever sheâs up to,â he retorted in an irritated tone.
Marlene rolled her eyes, her frustration evident Well eveuse me but forgive me if I find it hard

to believe that Amber and Richard got married for some noble, loveâfilled reason,â she retorted, her voice dripping with sarcasm. âYouâve always made it clear how much you hate Richard, which can only mean Amber and Richard are up to something and it bothers me that youâre not worried about them right
now.â
Kayden shrugged, his expression nonchalant. âI wonât deny that Richard has ulterior motives, this Iâm very sure of. But Iâm not worried because I know Amber wonât be of any real use to him,â he replied, a flicker of confidence in his eyes. âMarlene, I think youâre starting to overestimate Amber way too
much. Sheâs foolish, weak, and naive, and she doesnât have the intellect to cause me any real harm.
Donât worry about anything, babe.â
Marleneâs frustration with Kayden grew, her eyes narrowing in disbelief. âYou really think that, donât you? You genuinely believe that sheâs so naive and foolish? Well news flash sweetheart, youâre wrong! The Amber I know might be slow and trusting, but sheâs no fool. How didnât you ever see how
clever and manipulative Amber can be? Mark my words, Kayden, she and that Richard guy are involved in
something sinister, and we canât underestimate them.â
Kayden let out another sigh. âBabe, no offense, but I really donât think Amber and Richard pose any
actual threat to us, no matter how much plotting they do. Itâs just going to turn out to be another
one of Richardâs failed experiments,â he stated, his voice tinged with exasperation.
Marlene rolled her eyes, her annoyance evident. âInstead of acting like youâre so untouchable, maybe
you should consider breaking Amberâs confidence just to make sure youâre really as untouchable as you
think you are,â she fired back.
Confusion furrowed Kaydenâs brow as he tried to comprehend Marleneâs suggestion. âAnd how exactly do you propose I do that?â he asked, his tone laced with skepticism.
With a wicked smile, Marlene asked Kayden if Richard Romero was the same Richard he had talked about
during the incident with Amberâs late mother. Kayden nodded affirmatively, confirming the
connection.
Marleneâs smile widened as she found her opening. Thatâs exactly what we need. Use Richard. Heâs the
perfect tool to bring back Amberâs vulnerability,â she explained, her voice filled with anticipation.â Amber may not be a fool, but her weakness has always been her late mother. Use that against her,
Kayden. Bring her down from whatever high horse sheâs on.â
Kaydenâs frown deepened, his unease growing as he listened to Marleneâs suggestion. He couldnât help but feel a sense of dread at the direction she seemed to be heading. Needing clarification to be sure

Marlene met his gaze, her eyes filled with excitement. âItâs time, Kayden. You need to share the true reason why you married Amber in the first place,â she replied, her voice resolute. âLet her know
about your connection to her late mother.â
Kayden gasped, disbelief flickering across his face. âAre you crazy?â he exclaimed, his voice filled
with shock. âDo you even realize the consequences of exposing such things to her? It will only make
things worse for me.â
Marlene scoffed, dismissing his concerns. âKayden, things canât get any worse than they already are.

Amber already hates you, so why not give her more reasons to hate you?â she declared, her voice
dripping with cruelty. âBy exposing your connection to her mother, youâll not only break her spirit,
but youâll make her hate herself enough to want to kill herself.â
Kayden fell silent, his mind racing as he weighed the repercussions of Marleneâs suggestion. He knew
that their situation was dire, but he couldnât help but feel a pang of doubt.
Marlene, on the other hand, loved the idea of causing her sister even more pain. The anger she had felt when she read the news of Amberâs marriage flooded back into her mind, and it made her even more determined to forever wipe a smile off Amberâs face.
After a while of Kayden staying silent, Marlene grew impatient, hissing at him, âDo you want me to do it since you donât seem to have the guts?â

Sighing deeply, Kayden finally spoke, his voice tinged with uncertainty. âMarlene, I understand the sentiment behind your suggestion, but I canât help but wonder if itâs really a good idea,â he admitted, his voice filled with concern. âWhat if this plan ends up backfiring on us? What if it only drives Amber, further into her drive to get back at us?â
Marleneâs smile turned wicked, her eyes gleaming with a hint of malice. âTrust me, Kayden. Telling Amber that you were responsible for her motherâs death is the best way to break her. It will drive her so insane with hatred and despair, and sheâll end up falling right back to where we originally left her. Or this time, even worse,â she assured him, her voice laced with a chilling certainty.
