Chapter 57
Married To My Ex-Husband’s Rival by Jobet GraySon
Chapter Fifty Seven
Richardâs POV.
I observed Amber as she stood in front of me, her eyes filled with newfound confidence and a trace of darkness that sent a shiver down my spine.
It was evident that she had transformed into the fearless and determined woman I had hoped she would
become, ready to do whatever it took to exact her revenge. But as much as I appreciated this side of
her, I couldnât ignore the subtle changes in her eyes.
They now held a darkness and a lifelessness that concerned me more than I had anticipated. It was as
though she had lost all meaning and purpose besides her quest for revenge, and it scared me to think
of what she was slowly turning into.
Initially, this transformation was my desire and the main reason I approached her. I had wanted her
to find her strength, lose her morals, and confront her enemies headâon. But now, seeing the depths
of her transformation and the emptiness in her gaze, I couldnât help but feel a sense of fear for
her.
What if she loses herself completely in this pursuit of revenge? What if she becomes consumed by the
darkness she carries now and never finds a way out even after she gets what she wants?
Amberâs voice cut through, snapping me out of my reverie. She questioned if I had been paying attention to her words. âOf course, Iâve been listening to you, Amber.â I quickly lied, despite
missing half of what she had said after mentioning hiring a S*x worker willing to get hit.
She continued, revealing her plan for Anthony Black, and I couldnât help but admire her strategic
mind.
Still, concern filled me, not just for her current state but also for what would happen once our revenge was achieved. We would no longer have a reason to be married or be in each otherâs lives, and I feared that Amber might lose herself irrevocably in the process. And unfortunately, I would no longer be obligated to protect her.
As I dwelled on these worries, Amberâs voice cut through my thoughts once again. âTo get a S*x worke whoâs willing, Iâll need a large sum of money. Iâll also need to pay off Helena and a few other people I plan on using along the way. As you know, I married you for your power and your money, so

Iâm going to have to politely ask that you permit me to use a huge chunk of your money for what I
have planned,â she mentioned suddenly.
I furrowed my brow, wondering why she was speaking of the need for money when I had already given her
a card with no spending limit. Did she lose it?
âAmber, did you already lose the card I gave you just a few days ago, or did you forget the account
details?â
To my relief, she shook her head. After she confirmed that she didnât lose it, I then questioned why she was talking about needing a huge amount of money when she already had access to unlimited fur
Her smile appeared, a glimmer of mischief dancing in her eyes. âI just wanted to get your permission first. The money isnât technically mine, and I didnât feel comfortable spending it without checking with you first. Also, I wouldnât want your financial advisors checking your bank statement and
gasping in shock.â
I rolled my eyes a bit before shaking my head. âAmber, Iâve already told you that the card is yours
to use for whatever you need. Thereâs a reason it has no limit. I can assure you that you canât spend
enough to shock me or my advisors, so just do whatever you want, and donât worry about getting
permission from me.â
I couldnât fathom why she would be concerned about spending the money when she had an abundan
her disposal.
âIf I donât get your goâahead, I wonât proceed, Richard. Also, Iâll only be using the card for our
joint business. Other than that, I wonât be using your money for anything else,â she replied.
âJust do whatever is right for you, Amber. Spend as much as you need on whatever you want, even if
itâs personal. I want youâ to have everything you need to execute your plan successfully, and your
should feel supported and free to use the resources at your disposal.â
âAww, thank you, baby,â Amber suddenly responded with a subtle wink.
The fact that she called me baby, coupled with the wink, had caught me off guard completely and had
made my heart skip a beat.
I knew she was only trying to mess with me as usual, but I couldnât understand why such a simple
gesture from her affected me so strangely. Our relationship was supposed to be a business

arrangement, devoid of any genuine emotions. And yet, the things she just said and what she did had the power to make me fee things I shouldnât.
Shaking off my confusion, I looked away from her. This arrangement had a purpose, and being attracted to Amber was not part of it. I couldnât afford to let my guard down and risk complicating things
further.
I cleared my throat, trying to focus on the reason I had asked us to talk initially. âYou know how I suggested earlier that we stop your sister and that reporter? Well, one of the reasons Iâm concerned about Marlene working with a reporter to tarnish your reputation is because we have our first public appearance as a married couple coming up,â I explained
âOh really?â She responded, obviously surprised. âIf youâre worried that I canât handle it, then
youâre wrong, Richard. Iâll be fine,â she assured,
Her confidence impressed me, but I couldnât help but worry. âI know youâre strong, Amber. But the media can be ruthless. Itâs overwhelming even for those of us who have been in the spotlight for years,â I confessed. âI just donât want you to be caught off guard.â
Amber smiled warmly, a glimmer of excitement in her eyes. âI appreciate your concern, Richard,â she said sincerely. âBut donât worry; I can handle the reporters. Besides, itâs our first public
appearance as a married couple, and I want to make a statement. The more controversial I am, the more
fun itâll be. Anyway, whose event is it and when is it happening?â
âItâs happening in two days, and itâs the birthday party of one of my fatherâs closest friends,â I replied. âHeâs a famous fashion designer with a lot of celebrity friends, so Iâm pretty sure itâs going to be extravagant.â
The thought of being at the event already gave me a migraine, knowing very well that Iâd have to deal with a bunch of people I didnât like and also endure listening to stories I could care less about.
âI
In contrast to my annoyance, Amberâs eyes sparkled with excitement. âA fashion designerâs birthday party? Oh, that sounds like so much fun! I canât wait,â she exclaimed, and seeing her smile genuinely made my heart skip again.
