After Richard and Amber moved away from the confrontation with Kayden, Richard couldnât help but feel a surge of concern for his wife. He turned to her, his eyes scanning her face for any signs of
distress.
âAmber, are you okay?â he asked. âThat must have been tiring to deal with. Iâm sorry you had to deal
with him on a day like this.â
Amber sucked in a breath, her face briefly displaying a mix of emotions before settling into a determined expression. She paused for a few seconds, gathering her thoughts, before responding.
âI have to admit, Richard, I was initially feeling a little intimidated,â Amber confessed. âThis is such a huge party, and everyone here seems so important and prominent in some way, so I couldnât help but feel a little out of place. But seeing a useless bastard like Kayden at this party has actually made me feel a lot better. It kind of reminded me that bastards also dress in suits and pretty
dresses.â
Richard chuckled at her blunt assessment, a hint of amusement dancing in his eyes. He extended his
hand towards her, a playful glint in his gaze. âWell, letâs not let a useless bastard ruin our
night,â he said. âHow about we forget him and have a little fun on the dance floor? Would you like to
dance with me?â
Amberâs eyes lit up with excitement as she accepted Richardâs hand. âAbsolutely,â she replied, her
smile widening. âIâd love to dance with you.â
They made their way to the dance floor, their bodies moving in sync with the music. Richardâs hand
rested gently on Amberâs waist, while Amberâs arm was draped around his n*eck. As they danced, their
gazes remained locked on each other, the world around them blurring into the background.
Amberâs voice, filled with warmth, cut through the music. âHas anyone ever told you that you have the most beautiful eyes?â
Richard chuckled softly, his eyeâs crinkling at the corners. âReally?â he replied. âAnd whatâs so beautiful about my basic green eyes?â

Amber shrugged innocently, her smile not wavering. âAs far as Iâm concerned, thereâs nothing basic
about your featuresâ she whitessed. âPeople would pay to have your looks, including those stunning
eyes of yoursâ
Richard chuckled again, genuinely taken aback by Amberâs sudden praise. âAre you drunk already?â he
teased. âYouâre not being normal right now.â
Amber playfully rolled her eyes, her laughter echoing in the air. âIâve only had one glass of
champagne. Richardâ she protested. âSo, Iâm not drunk. I know exactly what Iâm saying.â
As the music grew louder. Richard tilted his head slightly, catching the rhythm with a grin on his
face. He temporarily let go of Amberâs hand, spinning her around playfully before smoothly pulling her back into his arms. His strong arms wrapped around her waist again, causing Amber to let out a
startled gasp as they briefly rested on her butt.
11 have to admit Amber, Iâm struggling to believe that you think Iâm all that attractive or whatever
you just said.â Richard confessed. âYou said it yourself, back in the car after the wedding, that the
thought of k*ssing someone like me was unappealing.â
He hated the fact that he sounded petty, but since the statement she made that day had bothered him a
lot, he decided it was time to talk about it and perhaps understand if she meant it literally or if there was another meaning he couldnât decipher.
Amber stared back at him, a puzzled expression clouding her features. She furrowed her brow, trying
to recall what he was referencing. âLI donât remember saying anything like that,â she responded.
âWhat are you talking about?â
Richard frowned, feeling a surge of frustration mixed with selfâdoubt. He hesitated for a moment
before clarifying his voice laced with a touch of disappointment. âYou donât remember telling me that!
Just a few weeks ago,â he said. âIt bothered me. Amber. And I hate to admit it, but it kind of made me feel like you didnât really want to be around me.â
Amberâs eyes widened, realization dawning on her. She gasped in surprise before bursting into a hit
of laughter, unable to contain her amusement at the misunderstanding. âOh, Richard,â she choked out
between pizzes. âI canât believe youâve been thinking about that all this time!â
Richardâs frown deepened, his face displaying a mix of confusion and relief. âWait, so you do
remember saying it?â he asked, his voice unsure.

Amber shook her head, her laughter finally subsiding. âNo, no, Richard. I donât remember saying it like that, but I do remember mentioning the word unappealing. Just not in a condescending way,â she clarified. âTrust me, I would never say something like that in that context. You must have
misunderstood me.â
Richard looked at Amber, his eyebrows furrowing as he tried to understand what she had meant by her previous statement. âCan you clarify what you meant, then? What was so unappealing about the idea of k*ssing me?â he asked.
He genuinely wanted to understand her perspective so that he could finally stop thinking in the back
of his mind that Amber may be a little repulsed by him.

Amber let out a small sigh and rolled her eyes slightly before responding. âI didnât say that you were unappealing, Richard. I mean, Iâd have to be blind or into women to think youâre unappealing.â she explained. âI just meant that the idea of getting intimate with youâ¦it didnât appeal to me at the time. Maybe I didnât use the right words, but I just didnât want to have to get used to being
intimate with someone again, especially not someone like you.â
Richard Estened intently, his mind racing to grasp the reasoning behind her words. He wanted to know what had made her feel that way and what was going through her mind. But before he could delve deeper into the conversation, the music abruptly came to an end, signaling the end of the dance. The chatter of other partygoers immediately filled the air, making it difficult for them to continue their conversation without being overheard.
Richard glanced around, a restlessness building in him. He wanted a quiet place where they could have privacy and he could clear his curiosity. Heâd suddenly remembered that heâd seen a nearby room, so heâd gently tugged at Amberâs hand, silently urging her to follow him.
But just as they were about to sl*p away, a voice called out Richardâs name, halting them in their tracks. Both Richard and Amber turned their heads, their eyes landing on Louis Vidal, who was making his way towards them with a wide grin on his face. And as soon as Richard saw him, he let out a frustrated sigh.
