CHapter 173
The Killer Queen
Chapter 173
Tandy glanced at Noella, a faint smirk playing on his lips. âLook, Iâve got no clue what youâre jabbering about. Never laid eyes on you before. And as for Vincent, well, we barely crossed paths.
Xavier fumed at Tandyâs unyielding demeanor.
Tandy had been in Lockhart Prison quite a while, and even Xavier couldnât always get a straight answer out of him. Yet the secrets Tandy held were so numerous, Xavier couldnât bear to just off him with a bullet.
With a stride, Xavier marched over and yanked Tandy off the cot as if he were picking up a sack of potatoes, âYou gonna talk or not? Donât think Iâm doing you any favors keeping you breathing!â
Tandy coughed violently, his face ashen, but managed a wry smile. âXavier, honestly, I got no idea what sheâs on about. What do you want me to say?â
Noella interjected coolly, âThorpeâs on his way here. Looks like heâs planning a prison break.â
Tandyâs eyes bulged in shock!
That idiot! Why would he even think of busting into Lockhart Prison!
Xavier dropped Tandy back on the cot, his knuckles white with tension. âIâve never heard of anyone dumb enough to break into Lockhart Prison. Interesting!â
Palmer chuckled softly. âXavier, hadnât there been a few attempts at prison breaks before?â

Xavier whirled around, snarling, âZip it!â
He wanted to play the grand protector in front of Noella, and here was Palmer, eager to burst his bubble.
Xavier smirked at Tandy. âThose who tried to break out beforeâyou know what happened to them? My throneâs cushioned with their heads!â
Xavierâs throne was studded with jewels, the lifeâs worth of those wouldâbe escapees!
Noella commented blandly, âItâs ugly. Your taste is trash.â
If anyone else had dissed Xavierâs stuff, theyâd likely end up ground into dust to stuff his throne, but Noella got away with it, and Xavier just beamed.
âHeh, your grandma always said I had no taste. Youâre right, kiddo, spot on.â
Noellaâs gaze settled on Tandy. Her eyes were clear, iceâcold, unsettling even to someone like Tandy, who lived life on the edge.
Noella tilted her chin, eyeing Tandy. âYou donât want to die.â
No one planning to die would bother reading in a cell, especially not Tandy, with glasses missing a lens and barely holding together. This wasnât a man who wanted to end it all.
Tandy chuckled lightly. âMiss, nobody wants to die, but having found my way to Lockhart Prison, I never expected to walk out alive.â
âIndeed. Thorpe seems to value Hollis greatly, so I made him to bring Hollis along when he came to rescue you. How touching to have all three brothers die togetherâfamily should stick together, right?â
Tandyâs fists clenched on his knees. âWhat the hell do you want? Thorpe and Hollis are innocent! They know nothing about what youâre asking!â
Noella snapped her fingers. âSimple. Tell me who ordered you to swap me out. Whose baby was it that took

any place?
She glanced at her wristwatch. âOh, and to save your brothers the trouble of finding your cell, Iâve shared the coordinates with them. What do you think youâll see? A rescue or a slaughter?â
Tandy stared in disbelief at Noella. His composure hinged on the belief that Thorpe couldnât locate him,
âAre you the devil? Why are you doing this?â
Noella shrugged nonchalantly, âTheir lives are in your hands now, not mine.â
Tandy was silent for a moment, wiped his glasses, and hesitantly put them back on.
He closed his eyes, his voice quivering. âI canât spill the beans. If I do, Iâm a dead man. Truth is, I feel safer inside Lockhart Prison. So, I was willingly arrested.â
For Tandy, the prison was a haven compared to the dangers outside!
Noella regarded Tandy intently. âI can cure your sickness.â
Tandy turned to her, his brow furrowed.
âI can even cure Hollisâs illness, so yours is the same. Tell me the truth, and Iâll let you live.â
The offer was too tempting to resist!
Xavier looked at Noella, surprised, âNoella, you sure this guy ainât faking his sickness?â
Noella ignored him, her eyes fixed on Tandy. âIf Iâm not mistaken, youâve got a severe blood disorder. Bulging eyes with greenish turnors, enlarged lymph nodes, bruises on your arms, and youâre always in bed because of joint pain, right?â
Tandy was battling acute leukemia!
Xavier exclaimed in shock, âWhat? I didnât notice!â
He had thought Tandy was just bruised from the beatings, resting up in his cell, spitting blood. Wasnât that how it went for every con in Lockhart Prison?
Noella cast him a fleeting glance. âThatâs âcause youâre not bright enough to see it.â
âBullsh⦠I mean, you are right. Lucky you caught on!â
Palmer couldnât help but laugh at the sightâXavier, the fierce overlord, brought down a peg by this little lady! Noella stared at Tandy, âWith acute leukemia, you havenât got long. If youâre keen on dying, you donât have to waitâitâs coming.â
She stood up, yawning. âIf youâre not willing to talk, Iâll go entertain your brothers.â
As Noella moved to leave, Tandyâs resolve crumbled. He blurted out, âWait! I can give you part of the story. Youâre smart; youâll figure out the rest.
Noella turned around and sat back down.
âCan you really cure my disease? And what about my brothers?â
âRest assured, if what you tell me satisfies, youâll keep breathing!â
Tandy licked his chapped lips and began to talk.
honestly donât know you, but since you mentioned Vincent, you must be the kid from the Schnabel family. Years back, I got an order saying that a daughterâinâlaw from the Schnabel family was coming to my hospital to give birth. They told me to make sure she gets transferred to the Heartfelt Orphanage.
Chapter 173
1 set a fire at Tandy Hospital, wrecked a bunch of equipment. On the day the young Mrs. Schnabel was due to deliver, I handed over the Schnabel baby to Vincentâs wife. She had no clue about the babyâs real identity, and her child wasnât Vincentâs, but i promised to keep her secret and gave her a cool two hundred grand.â
Tandy was lost in the past for a moment.
âAs for the child Mrs. Schnabel took, that kid was just an orphan from Heartfelt Orphanage. I donât know her story, either. The kid was a few days older than Mrs. Schnabelâs baby. Newborns all look pretty much the same, and no one caught on to the switch. Years ago, when the Schnabel family brought the girl in for a paternity test, I handed them fake results.â
Tandy let out a heavy sigh.
âAnd about Vincent, he only came to me wanting to know what really went down that year. He mustâve figured out you werenât his kid by then, so I just told him there was a mixâup at the hospital.â
Noella looked at Tandy, a wry smile playing on her lips.
âYouâre lying. If you donât know the identity of that child, and Heartfelt Orphanage is swarming with orphans, why on earth would you pick her out? I donât buy any âcoincidencesâ in your story!â
