While Andrei and Stephen were watching Sephie and Misha show Viktor what we had all just seen, Ivan caught my eye. âWhat do you want to bet sheâs about to unlock his gift for him?â he thought.
âYou might be right. She just unlocked a new level for us. Might as well unlock Vikfor while sheâs at it,â I replied, unable to hide my smirk.
âWhat now?â
âShe just showed me everything everyone else saw from across the kitchen. She didnât need to touch me to make it happen. Thatâs been happening with thoughts and emotions, but never images.â
âCan you see what she sees now?â
âI really want to look, but I also donât want to f u ck it up. Sheâll show me later.â
âCoward.â
âAs shole.â
We saw Misha look down at Sephie. He was clearly stunned with whatever the just saw. She looked at him, her eyes wide. Then she looked at Viktor. âDid you know that man?â she asked him.
âThatâsâ¦thatâsâ¦my brother,â Viktor said. He was completely stunned at what heâd just seen.
Clearly they had just seen something new..
âWhat happened?â Ivan asked.
âViktor just saw his gift in action, but I think we broke him,â Sephie said silently to me and Ivan. âI donât know what to say to him. Heâs completely numbâ
Ivan walked to Viktor, standing in front of him, trying to get Viktor to focus on him. âSephie and Misha just showed you your gift, Viktor. I donât know what it looked like. She can show me, if you want her to, but I can tell you that youâre the one that makes sure we donât need Stephen very often,â he said. Viktor just stood there for a moment, not moving, not saying anything.
âDid he see his child?â Ivan asked Sephie.
âNo and yes. It looked like a ball of light to me and Misha. It mightâve looked different to Viktor though, but he saw that he got help from something else
besides us.â
Ivan reached out and put his hand on Viktorâs shoulder. Viktor looked down at Ivanâs hand, then back at Ivanâs face. âThis is going to be hard to hear, Viktor, but the help youâre going to get isnât from any of us.
Itâs from a soul you werenât able to meet, but one that is forever linked to you now. Youâve spent so much time focusing on the tragedy that youâve missed the happy ending.â
We could see Viktor look down for a moment, then back up to Ivan. âHow is this possible?â he asked quietly.
I walked over to Viktor, hoping to help Ivan out. âYour unborn child cleared so much of its karma by signing up for that ending to its almost life. That soul is so grateful to you that itâs willing to help you with your gift. Your gift wouldnât be possible without it. Youâre what can help fix people to prevent demons from getting in. Youâre the other end of the spectrum from Stephen. When itâs too late for you to be of any good, then Stephen can still save the soul. But youâre the first line of defense for people who havenâtt let the demon all the way in. Youâre doing what you always do, Viktor. Youâre making sure people are safe and taken care of.â
I felt Sephie walk up half beside me, half behind me, holding onto my arm. â had to go through all of that to make it here, Papa Bear. It was horrific, but you wouldnât be here without it and you wouldnât have a sweet angelic gift without it,â
1/3
âAnd apparently youâre going to save your brother, which is also the complete other end of the spectrum from Stephen,â Misha said. We heard Stephen laughing quietly behind us..
Viktor finally started to get a handle on himself. He turned to look at Misha. âHow did you know that my brother was coming here in a couple weeks?â
âI didnât. I donât always control the movie. This was one of those times where was not at all in control,â
Misha said, shrugging his shoulders.
âYou saw what you needed to see, Viktor. Youâve been avoiding this, but Bubba and Misha created a scenario where you couldnât avoid it any longer. They likely didnât know they were doing that, but their souls knew. Itâs become obvious to all of us that youâve been avoiding me for quite some time,â Sephie said quietly.
âTotally didnât know I was doing that,â Andrei said.
âMe either. I stand by my earlier statement that I am not in control of the mbie at all times,â Misha said.
We could see that Viktor was still struggling with accepting everything. âIvan why donât you two go downstairs. Or go to the gym. Just get him away from everyone for the day. He deals with things better when heâs not in front of everyoneâI thought. Ivan nodded his head. Without a word, he just slid his arm around Viktorâs shoulders and walked him out of the penthouse.
âDid we break him?â Misha asked. He was obviously worried about showing Viktor something he shouldnât have seen.
âI donât think so. We knew this was going to be hard on him. I think heâs doing better than I expected him to, honestly,â Sephie said.
âOkay, so explain his gift since I didnât get to see it,â Andrei said.
âViktor is the opposite to Stephen, much like youâre the opposite to Ivan,â I said. âYou can see where people are weak in their auras. Viktorâs able to fill those holes in, basically. But no human can do that so quickly without some kind of angelic help. So Viktorâs unborn child is helping him.â
Andrei looked to Stephen. âAnd I thought your gift was heavy, man.â
Stephen laughed. âSame, Andrei. Same.â
âViktor is like the first line of defense against demons. Stephen is the last,â Sephie said.
âSo Andrei and Ivan are like visual detection systems, you and Boss are the tichy-feely detection systems, Viktor fixes those who are still able to be? fixed, and Stephen is everyoneâs last hope? And Iâm just here for entertainment? I feel like that sums it up nicely,â Misha said, trying to keep a straight
face.
âIâm not sure I could have said it as succinctly as you, Misha,â I said, laughing at him.
âSomehow, I feel like itâs slightly more nuanced than that, Misha,â Andrei said.
âHe did leave out a few details, but he got the broad overview. Heâs a big picture guy,â Sephie said, shaking her head, laughing.
âYouâre right. We also have Sephieâs demon warning system,â Misha said. âI did forget that one. Good lookinâ out, bro.â
âYou know, Vladâs been talking about hiring a new chronicler. His last one met with an unfortunate end.
Misha might be perfect for the job,â Stephen. said, in his normal, completely serious manner.
