Chapter 109
Alpha’s Second Chance Mate (Sidonie & Carlyle)
The moon hung high in the night sky, casting a soft glow over the landscape as Donald and I stood at the edge of the pack boundary when he saw me off after a long day.
âThank you for today, Donald. I had a wonderful time.â I offered him a warm smile.
Donaldâs eyes sparkled with delight as he returned my smile, a faint blush coloring my cheeks.
âThe pleasure is all mine, Amelia. Iâm glad we had the chance to spend the day together.â He said honestly.
My expression turned thoughtful as I gazed up at the twin kling stars above, a gentle breeze rustling through my hair.
âYou know, Donald, today reminded me of when I was just a little girl. The last time I felt so carefree and happy was when I was around six or seven years old.â
Donaldâs was surprised as his brows raised slightly as he listened intently to my words.)
âReally? You mean that?â
I nodded, with sincerity as I recalled the memories of my childhood.
âYes, I do. Itâs been a long time since I felt so alive and carefree. Thank you for bringing back those memories.â
Donaldâs heart definitely swelled with warmth at my words as a soft smile graced his lips as he reached out to touch my arm gently.
âWell, then, Amelia, I promise you this. As long as things go well between us, you can expect many more days like today.â
My breath catches in my throat at my heartfelt promise, my cheeks flushing slightly in response.
âIâd like that, Donald. Iâd like that very much.â
Just as I finished speaking, a surge of emotion washed over me as Donald leaned in, closing the distance Emergency calls only between us. Our lips met in a soft, tender kiss, sending a shivers down my spine.
5045% 110:5 Time seemed to stand still as we shared this intimate moment, the world around us fading away into the background. In that moment, there was only Donald and I, lost in each otherâs embrace. Any other thoughts that wanted to cloud my mind, preventing me from flowing with the moment, I shunned them away immediately. At least, for that moment, After a while, I bade him goodbye, heading for where I belonged.
âWelcome back, Amelia! How was your day? How was the wedding?â Kyla asked as soon as I got inside.
âIt went well. Did anyone ask about me while I was out?â
âNo, not a soul. But if they did, I had your back. I knew just what to say.â
âThatâs good.â
âSo, how was the wedding? Tell me all about it.â Kyla was really enthusiastic to know every detail of how my day went. And I began narrating to her.
She listened intently as I recounted the events of the day, from the beautiful ceremony to seeing different Alphaâs, talking to Alpha Carlyle himself and his beautiful Lunaâ¦
ââ¦And then, just as everything was going smoothly,â¦.â I trailed off, remembering that I saw the Queen mother.
âKyla, by chance, do you know if Canthra Minerva left the pack today?â
âI really canât say about that. Why did you ask? Did something happen?â
My expression shifted, my brows furrowing in concern.
âCanthra Minerva appeared at the wedding!â I announced.
âCanthra Minerva? What was she doing there? Did she say anything to you? Did she see you?â Kyla became âNo, she didnât approach me or anything. In fact, she didnât see me. But her presence just made me uneasy. I canât shake the feeling that somethingâs not right.â
âHmm, thatâs strange.â Kylaâs expression changed to a thoughtful one. âBut come to think of it, I donât think she went anywhere today. Are you sure she was the one you saw?â
âIâm quite sure, Amelia. But Iâll keep an eye out to see if I missed something probably.â
Kyla nods in agreement, as she thought if what I said.
âYouâre right, Amelia. Iâll stay vigilant. And Iâll try to check things through for you.â
Despite Kylaâs words, I couldnât shake off the need to get a definite answer real quick. Thinking about it in all ramifications, there was only one person I could ask. Varef. He would surely know if she left her chambers.
But going to him wasnât something I wanted. Ever since I received the punishment, we havenât set eyes on each other.
After so many considerations, I decided to go see him. Worse come to worse, weâll fight it out if things go awry again.
Getting to his quarters, his attendant told me that he wasnât seeing anyone and I heaved a sigh thinking I was once again at a dead end and without a clue since there was no one I could ask again. I thought of asking the maid but I didnât want to arouse anyoneâs suspicions.
âWhat would make a Lion leave its den for a horseâs stable?â That was Varefâs voice.
I froze in my tracks, my heart pounding in my chest as I turned slowly to face Varef, with a guarded notion.
âI need to speak with you, Varef. Itâs important.â
âAh, I see. You come crawling back to me after all this time. How amusing.â He smirked.
âAre you going to invite me in or not?â I made sure to ignore his taunts.
Gesturing towards the door, he ushered me in. âVery well. Come in, then. But make it quick. I have more important matters to attend to than entertaining unwanted guests.â
Since I wasnât expecting anything good from him, I tried my best not to bother about his speech towards me.
Following him into his quarters, my senses were on high alert. I knew that dealing with Varef wonât be easy, but was determined to get the answers I needed.
Inside his room, Varef and I stid face to face without saying anything. Just looking at each other.
âSo, what brings you here, Amelia?â He eyed me waringly I cared less.
âIâve come seeking information. Was Canthra Minerva present today? I mean⦠Did she leave the pack?â
âWhy not check her chambers yourself? Why come to me?â Varef raised an eyebrow.
âIâm⦠not in the best shape to face her directly. The way we ended last meeting⦠And my missionâ¦
itâs not yet completed.
Varef studied me for a moment, suspicion evident in his gaze.
âAnd what would I gain from aiding you in this?â
Just like him. He rarely did anything for free. Not even the smallest of tasks.
I⦠I have nothing to offer you.
Before Varef can reply, my mind raced, searching for leverage.
âThen, perhaps you can make use of this as a means of repaying me for the punishment.â I stated and Varef nodded.
âFair enough.â His experience remained unreadable. âOkay, she was in her chambers all day,â He said.
âAre you sure of that?â I asked with doubt.
âYes, I left there not quite long and she hasnât been to anywhere before then or after then.â
How is that possible? Then, if the Queen mother was in her chambers all day. Who was the person at the wedding? I couldnât have been mistaken. I sensed the aura first before seeing her. Somethingâs not right..
âAlright, thanks.â I said, leaving.
âHowâs your wound?â Varef asked, surprisingly.
âThanks for the ointment.â I replied.
âIâm sorry for that day, Amelia.â He said ad I flashed him an expressionless look for a moment, surprised by his sudden strange attitude. It was rare for Varef to show such caring side to anyone.
