Chapter 120
Alpha’s Second Chance Mate (Sidonie & Carlyle)
CARLYLEâS POV D 53%
11.12 Delilah gestured for us to come closer, her expression grave as she gazed up at the sky, a weighty sigh escaping her lips before she began to speak.
âAs expected, to be forewarned is to be forearmed.â
Rexâs brow furrowed in confusion as he listened intently, his eyes searching Delilahâs face for answers.
âWhat do you mean by that? And why werenât you surprised when I mentioned Rainaâs death?
Delilahâs voice carried solemnity as she began to recount the tale of Rainaâs misguided actions. Her words were terse, each syllable laden with the weight of regret and forewarning.
âYour sisterâs fiery temperament was no secret to me. She came to me with a reckless determination, fueled by jealousy and vengeance. She sought to harm her perceived love rival, blinded by her own desires and consumed by a thirst for retribution.â
Rex listened intently, his features contorted with a mixture of disbelief and sorrow as he absorbed the truth of Delilahâs words.
âI warned her of the consequences of her actions, cautioned her against the path she was intent on treading. But Raina was stubborn, unwilling to heed my counsel. She was determined to pursue her own course, heedless of the danger that awaited her.â
Delilahâs narrative settled over us like a heavy shroud, each word a somber reminder of the tragedy that has unfolded. Rexâs fists clenched with a silent fury.
âI⦠I never knew⦠I never realized how far she had fallen. How could she⦠how could she be so blind to the dangers that awaited her?â
Rexâs voice trembled with emotion as he spoke, understanding the harsh reality of his sisterâs choices and their devastating consequences.
Delilahâs gaze softened with empathy as she regarded Rex, her voice gentle yet tinged with sorrow.
53% 11:12 Emergency calls only âSometimes, the allure of vengeance blinds us to the perils that lie in wait. Your sister was consumed by her own. desires, unable to see beyond her own pain. It is a tragedy, indeed.â
âThereâs something I donât understand⦠Why did the contents of the bottle gather back and attack Raina after spilling on the floor?â My voice broke the somber silence that took place. Delilahâs gaze shifted to me, her expression calm yet curious as she waited for me to voice my inquiry.
All eyes turned to me, anticipating, as we awaited Delilahâs response. With a knowing nod, Carlyle to voice his question.
âAsk, and you shall receive answers.â
I took a deep breath, my voice steady as I posed my question to Delilah.
h encou âHow did you know that Raina attacked Sidonnie during the blue moon? And why didnât she use the contents of the bottle as intended?â
âRainaâs actions were driven by haste and impulse. She sought to exact her revenge without fully understanding the consequences of her actions. When she attacked Sidonnie during the blue moo she disrupted the balance of the magic, causing it to retaliate against her. As for how I knew⦠Raina did not stay to hear the details of my warning before she fled.â Delilahâs response was measured, her gaze steady as she addressed my inquiry with clarity and certainty.
Listening to her, the pieces of the puzzle slowly fell into place as I began to understand the chain of events that led to Rainaâs demise.
âBut, you shouldnât have given her what she asked for, Delilah. She was the only family I had left, now, sheâs gone.â Rexâs voice quivered as he said this to the witch, holding back tears. Delilah met his gaze with a mixture of sympathy and resolve looking a bit sorrowful.
âI understand your pain, Rex. But some things are beyond our control. Some paths are set in motion long before we even realize it. I had no choice but to honor Rainaâs request, for the threads of fate had already been woven.â
Rexâs shoulders sagged with the weight of his sorrow, his eyes glistening with unshed tears.
In the end, everything was clear and Raina was to blame for everything. If she hadnât harboured evil intentions against Sidonnie, none of these would have happened.
âMy condolences, Alpha Rex.â I placed a comforting hand on his shoulders.
Emergency calls only With a heavy heart, Rex took a moment to compose himself before turning to face Donald and I.
âThank you⦠both of you. I appreciate your support.â
We offered Rex a firm handshake and a reassuring pat on the shoulder.
053% 11:12 âYou donât have to worry about Rainaâs body. Weâll make arrangements on how itâll reach you.â I said and he nodded, leaving in despair.
DONALDâS POV As I followed the two Alphaâs out of Delilahâs coven, a sudden clatter broke the silence, drawing everyoneâs attention. I glanced down to see what had fallen, realizing it was from my own hand.
Bending to retrieve it, I found myself faceâtoâface with Delilah, her piercing gaze fixed on the object in my palm.
âWhere did you find that?â she asked.
âItâs just a gift from a friend,â I replied casually, though her intense scrutiny left me feeling uneasy. âIs there a problem?â
Delilahâs expression softened slightly, but her eyes remained serious.
âYou donât know the value of what you hold,â she stated cryptically.
Confusion creased my brow as I examined the object more closely. It appeared to be a simple stone, smooth and polished to perfection, a rare gem which I was told to have been gifted by Mason. But Delilahâs words hinted at something more, something ancient and powerful.
âWhat do you mean?â I asked, my curiosity piqued.
âThis,â she began, reaching out to gently take the stone from my hand, âis a speech stone. Used by the Canthrastras in ancient times to send messages to their loved ones.â
My mind reeled at the revelation. A speech stone? How could such a relic find its way into the hands of Mason?
âWhy would Mason have something like this?â I wondered, my thoughts racing.
Delilahâs lips curved into a knowing smile. âPerhaps there are more uses for it than you realize,â she mused, her eyes twinkling with hidden knowledge.
Emergency calls only âThen, do you know of any other use?â I asked and she nodded.
6.53% 11:12 âAbout thatâ¦.I learnt that thereâs a way the Canthrastras use it to spy on whoever they want to if channelled properly.â She said briefly.
My mind raced as Delilah revealed another layer of the speech stoneâs capabilities. To think that someone could use it to spy on me sent a shiver down my spine. The thought of unseen eyes watching my every move filled me with a sense of vulnerability I had never known before.
Before I could fully grasp the implications of Delilahâs words, Carlyleâs voice cut through the tension skeptically.
âIs that really the stone I gave to you for Mason?â he pressed, his tone tinged with doubt.
I bristled at his insinuation, my defenses rising in response.
âOf course it is,â I shot back, irritated. âWhy would you even question that?â
But Carlyle remained unconvinced, his gaze steady as he met my eyes.
âAmelia,â he stated simply, his words hanging in the air like a weight.
The mention of my mateâs name only fueled my frustration. âThis has nothing to do with Amelia,â I snapped, my temper flaring. âIt was the stone you gave me. If you donât trust me, you can take it back and have him identify it.â
But even as I spoke the words, doubt gnawed at the edges of my resolve and I bet Carlyle felt the same too. How could Mason possess such material? That question never ceased to pop up in my mind no matter how I thought of it.
There was only one way to find out. I turned to Carlyle with determination.
I âAbout this, we need to talk to Mason,â I declared firmly. âHeâs the only one who can give us the answers we seek.â
âSure, letâs return in that case.â
However, before we left, I asked Delilah another mind bugging question.
âDo you know i thereâs a way to know if youâre being spied on with it?â
Emergency calls only âNo, I have no idea about that. I never had the chance to learn about it.â
âHow are you so sure it was a speech stone?â Carlyle asked.
53% 11:12 âIâve once used it. My husband was a Canthrastra.â She answered sadly and we apologized for bringing up memories she probably didnât want to.
After that, I and Carlyle bade her byes, thanked her for all she did and returned home.
