Chapter 101
Alpha’s Second Chance Mate (Sidonie & Carlyle)
CARLYLEâS POV âThis isnât the Donald I know.â I said with a resigned tone. âItâs fine. Do what you want!â I heaved a sigh, without looking at him again.
If he didnât want me to be involved in his life because he found his mate, so be it.
After minutes of silence which I expected him to have taken his leave, he stood still on a spot.
âIs there any other thing you want to talk about?â I asked, more or less like a query.
âIâm sorry, Carl. I didnât mean to say that or have this argument with you.â He uttered with remorse but I was too annoyed to listen.
The air was filled with tension as I faced Donald. His words hung heavy in the air as it rang in my ears severally.
âItâs fine. You can leave,â I stated firmly with a clipped as I avoided his emotions roiling beneath the surface.
gaze, my âCarl, I really mean it, Iâm sorry. You donât have to act this way, dude,â Donald pleaded, his voice tinged with frustration and regret.
âDonât tell me you are expecting another word from me after that insult,â I shot back, my anger simmering just below the surface.
âI just apologized, Carlyle,â Donald insisted, his tone pleading as he tried to defuse the tension between us.
âYouâre forgiven but precaution needs to be taken,â I replied tersely, as I struggled to contain my emotions.
any âDonât get me wrong,â Donald began, hesitantly as he sought to explain his actions. âI didnât tell you about Amelia and I meeting because I didnât want her to suffer form of prejudice before we got to know each other. Moreover, I needed to know what she thinks about the whole mate bond and who she is.â
I felt a pang of guilt as I listened to his explanation, the weight of accusations weighing heavily on my conscience.
my earlier âAm I that type of person to you?â I asked, my voice softening as I searched his eyes for answers while wondering what he thought of me all this while, âAm I such a person that wouldnât want his brotherâs happiness?â
O âI know how you can be when it comes to protecting your pack because of her identity and how we met.â Donald admitted, his voice tinged with regret. âI know you are going to be against it. Look at what you did just at the mention of her.â He paused, heaving a sigh. âYou didnât wait any second before speaking against it and querying me.â
His words hit me like a punch to the gut and the realization of my own actions sank in with painful clarity.
âItâs fine, Donald. Iâm sorry if I made you feel bad. I couldnât help but be careful,â I replied, my voice filled with remorse.
âI know, Carl,â Donald said, his tone softening as he reached out a hand to squeeze my shoulder in reassurance. âBeing your Beta, I know what is at stake, but trust me, sheâs a good one. Sheâs just a lady born in their midst.â
Despite his reassurances, a sense of unease lingered around us.
âDonât be so sure, Donald. You have to stand guard,â I cautioned with concern. âIn history, nothing done with a Canthrastra ever ended well because of their cu nning attitude and tricky acts. Donât forget that.â
âI know, Carl. But itâs worth a try for me,â Donald insisted despite the doubts that lingered in his mind.
âThink of it this way, the Goddess made her my mate for a reason. How about that?â
I paused, considering his words carefully before nodding in reluctant agreement.
âAlright, Iâll support you for now. But never cease to be careful,â I replied, my voice firm with conviction.
âThank you, man,â Donald said.
âSo, tell me more about herâ I requested. Perhaps, if anything was going to wrong, I could possibly take hint from his narration.
âSheâs beautiful like I said,â he began, âand I got know her better today. Sheâs one of the Queen mothers vasalâ¦â
âThe queen mother?â I interrupted without a second thought. That would be the first time I heard the Canthrastra having a Queen mother.
âThat was the same question I asked. She said the Queen mother is the current leader of the Canthrastras. Sheâs the Alpha Canthra but they call her âQueen motherâs or âcanthra Minervaâ
11.16 Thu, 21 Mar GG âHmmnn, I wasnât expecting that. All I thought was some Alpha male as their leader. I didnât expect a woman to head them.â
âSame here. So, sheâs the queen motherâs vassal who does anything she was ordered to do without complain, else sheâll be punished just like she was today.â
âWhat the of punishment was meted out on her?â
âShe didnât tell me that, exactly but sheâs got this big scars that disfigures a females soft and tender body. Guy, sheâs really one tough lady. Mere looking at her, one could tell that sheâs a warrior of their kind.â
âThatâs crazy.â
âYeah, I know right.â
âWhat do you intend doing if things go wrong? I meanâ¦â
âI donât know.â He cut me short, scared of the next words that would escape my lips. âBut Iâm sure of one thing. Iâll try my best to protect her at all cost if I get the chance.â
I understood him quite right and I decided to see it through. Heâs decided not be a coward like I was, the only thing I could do was to give him my support while watching out for the pack as well.
âI got your back. You know what? Invite her to my wedding.â
âI can?â
âOf course. Just make sure she doesnât reveal her identity. You know, other pack Alphas are going to be there.â
âGot that. Thanks, Carl. And congratulations once again.â He pulled me into a tight hug and I slapped his shoulder.
âThatâs cringy,â I teased, slapping his shoulder playfully as I pulled away. âMind you, youâll help me with something.â
âWhatâs that? Iâm always at your service,â Donald replied.
âIâve sent out my wedding invites to every Alpha needed, and it just occurred to me that I missed Rexâs pack,â I explained, with furrowed brows.
âYou want me to send them one?â Donald asked, his expression eager to assist.
|||
ã âYes, please,â I replied, relief flooding through me.
âConsider it done,â Donald said with a nod and he turned to leave immediately.
As he walked away, I heaved a sigh. Being an Alpha comes with so many pros and cons just like this. I could only hope things turn out well with the step Donald was taking.
