As cold as ice

Red's POV

The door creaked open and Neve popped her head through, a smug grin plastered on her face.

Before I could move my lips to speak she cut me off.

"Without you, Chloe and I can finally have a perfect friendship."

She said cold and deep, she shut the door after her words. Just as I tried to reach for the door knob it was frosted, ice cold. The walls of the bathroom started to freeze as the temperature dropped rapidly.

Spikes of ice shot from the frost in the floors and walls just nearly grazing my arms, missing by an inch. "Neve this isn't funny! Let me out!" I pleaded banging on the door. "Begging already, are we Red?" Her voice bounced off the walls, the echo filled my head painfully.

I tried to run some warm water but just as the faucet cut on the water froze, that's how I knew I was in deep shit.

I tried to get the door open but the knob was ice cold, at the same time I was dodging freezing spikes left and right.

I let myself get distracted by trying to open the door, causing a spike to leave a deep slash on my upper thigh. "Shit! Neve let me out!" I said looking at the fresh cut in my jeans and flesh.

"Not until you've learned your lesson, I don't want you near Chloe ever again. And I know you won't do that willingly, so I'll just have to get rid of you. It'll be way worse than wonderland."

Her voice was low but loud. The small room felt like the walls were closing in, the temperature at dangerously low levels and I started to tremble and shake, my fingers felt frozen and my body couldn't take the cold for much longer.

By this point there were spikes from every corner, one specific point of a spike was covered in a dark crimson. My cut started to drip down my leg, I got paper towels but it wasn't enough. "Neve this is too much!" I didn't get a response that time.

I fell to my knees out of exhaustion and cold, banging on the door some more.

Suddenly a spike came rushing towards me causing me to back up on the wall, the point just at my throat forcing my head to tilt up some, my breaths were heavier than before. "Don't bang. You'll only make it worse." She let out a laugh at the end.

The spike left my skin as I agreed to not bang, unsure of what to do now. The cut on my leg was throbbing and staining my cargo jeans, my body trembled more than I could imagine. My chest moved up and down quickly as I shook rapidly, it was so cold I could I could see the condensation with every breath.

"Giving up already? I thought you'd put up more of a fight."

That's when the door opened and Neve stepped in, she grabbed under my jaw as her thumbs pressed into the joint of my jaw while her fingers wrapped over the other joint on the opposite side, squishing my face in.

"You're more pathetic than I thought you'd be. This is way easier than I expected. I won't let you out though, that'd be detrimental to Chloe and I's future friendship!"

I panted lightly, I felt weak at her tight grip. That's when she left me there, the door frozen shut. I felt my bones and muscles grow weaker by the second, it's probably because I haven't had any real meals in who knows how long. I laid still and limp, falling unconscious at the temperature drop and blood loss.

Chloes POV

I haven't seen Red in a while, she's been on top of her classes all week and she promised she wouldn't give up on all the work. It's 6th hour and I expected her to be here, Suppose not. I'll just wait until 7th to see her again, maybe she's just in the dorm.

As I left class I waited at my locker to see if Red would show up, at hers or mine, there was absolutely no sign of her, not even wandering the halls. I grew worried, and I wanted to check the dorm but I ran out of time.

That's when I realized that the bathroom door looked.. weird, icy almost. I was just about to take a step towards it but Neve cut me off, scaring the shit out of me. "Shit Neve.." I said letting out a sigh. "Sorry! Let's get to class or we'll be late!" She giggled as we walked to 7th hour, my mind brushing off what I noticed completely.

My leg bounced up and down while I was stuck in my head about Red. What if she was hurt? Or something bad happened to her and I didn't know. What if she were upset with me after our disagreement.? I buried my head in my arms on the table just impatiently waiting for the bell to ring. Once it does I'm going straight to the dorm to look for Red, if not there then I'll ask principal Uma for the security footage.

After what felt like hours the bell rang and I was the first one out of the class room, quickly putting my things inside my locker. I shut the door and was met with Neve. She looked happy to see me but I wasn't. "Hi bestie!! Want to hang...-" I immediately cut her short, already knowing what she was going to ask. "I'm sorry Neve.. I feel so ill. I think I need to lie down for a few, I'll message you later if I feel better.!" I said, quickly brushing past her before she could get a word out.

I made my way to the dorm and as I walked in hoping to see her, there was nobody. Not even a trace of Red. The bathroom was left the same way, the beds were perfectly organized and our room was clean. I felt my heart sink, my head flooding with the many possibilities.. she could've gone to wonderland because she was so upset with me, or she could be hurt.. I didn't have time to just stand there and wonder, so I rushed to Uma's office, trying to avoid Neve at all costs.

"Chloe! How can I help you dear?" She said, setting down the cup of.. whatever it was, on her desk. "Can I see the security cameras please?" I said nearly out of breath even though I didn't run. "Sure.. Why though?" She asked pulling up the footage on her computer. "Red's gone missing, and I just need to see where she's gone.. I don't know if she's hurt. I just need a lead." My fingers tremble as I spoke. "Okay.. Come around my desk." She gestured for me to go around.

We looked at the footage from lunch, fast forwarding a bit too fast but then I saw something off. "Go back some, I think I saw her." I said to Uma, which she did but slower this time. "There's Red just going into the bathroom." She said skeptical. "I know I know. But look." I pointed to Neve standing off in the corner as she walked to the bathroom, nearly going in. She shut the door and that's when she started using her ice to freeze the door, it looked like she was talking.  "I've seen enough." I said running out the doors, Uma came along with multiple pirates.

I tried to get the bathroom door opened but it was frozen shut, the knob was practically dry ice. Uma snapped her fingers and the pirates started to pry the door open. "We are going to see if she's in here." Uma said, I guess she noticed me worrying.

Just when the door opened I immediately felt the instant cold hit me, I was first in the bathroom once pirates got the door fully opened, only to find a pale girl lying in the ground, her thigh covered in crimson. My stomach dropped at the sight, my hand covering my mouth. Her lips were blue and her whole body trembled lightly, her eyes just barely opened. I rushed to get her off the floor, quickly brushing the strands of hair out her face. "Red?. You're okay.. I got you."

I carried her out and Uma took us to the nurses office, Red's cold fingers were on my signature necklace, I wasn't sure why. "I'm right here princess." My voice trembled as I spoke, she hadn't breathed a word yet. "Nurse, we need a heating blanket and whatever spells  you can do to bring her temperature up, and quickly." The nurse nodded as she gestured for me to set Red down on the bed. "You'll be able to see her when I'm done with her treatment. Just sit out in the waiting room, Dear." I nodded my head as I hesitantly let go of Red's chilled palm.

"I've got to go get Neve in my office Chloe, will you be alright here?" Principal Uma asked with her hand in my shoulder. I hummed a yes to her, not being able to look her in the eyes and she left me, taking her pirates with her. I took a seat right outside the office and felt the tears stream down my face, the worry of her started to break me.

At this I noticed my leg was bouncing and my fingers looked for things to fidget with. My thoughts begun to spiral about the whole thing.

I trusted her and ignored my girlfriend. She'd notice the signs and I downplayed it all. What type of person does that make me? Me

If anything she has a right to be upset with me. I know I let her down immensely and I can't make up for something like this.

After what felt like hours the nurse came out, she had a look on her face that scared me deeply. As if she were uncertain about Red's recovery. "She's alright for right now, I did everything I could. The gash on her leg was deep but I was able to bandage it up. You can see her in the healing room right through that door." She said soft spoken. I nodded my head and thanked her as I walked through the door.

I saw Red covered up with a heating blanket, she looked nearly woke but I couldn't tell from afar. Moving up closer to her I noticed some color came back to her body, her lips weren't as blue and she wasn't trembling much. I pulled up a seat next to her bed and overlapped my hand on hers, they weren't as warm as they normally would be.

"Hi Red.." I said softly, I practically forced my self to speak. Seeing her in this state drove me crazy, I was full of worry and guilt.

The uncertainty of her being okay after just being left there. I had no clue where Neve had gone, I don't even know what to do with her at that, obviously I was going to cut her off completely.

Red hadn't answered in the time I was stuck in my head, I didn't know if I wanted to speak once more or stay silent. "How are you feeling.?" I asked barely being able to maintain eye contact. "Perfect." she tried to convince me, she said it in more of a joking manner than a snobby one. I smiled at the response knowing she was the complete opposite.

Red and I sat together for minutes before the door barged open, I was shocked to see that it was Uma with Neve. "Neve don't you see what you've done, you intentionally put another student at harm! that is not what we do at AP." She scolded her, Neve looked terrified.. full of guilt and shame as a tear rushed down her face.

She looked me dead in the eyes but my expression was blunt, I didn't dare speak a word to her.

She could tell I was mad since she started to plead for forgiveness, the expression on my face was cold and menacing. "Chloe please.! I'm so sorry.. I just.. I don't know what happened.! I shouldn't have-" I cut her off sharply. "You really think I'd listen to anything you say? After what you've done. Jealousy isn't a good look." I spoke flatly.

She knew she was in the wrong and she also knew I'd never forgive her. "We'll be calling your mother. I'm sure she'll be happy to find out what her daughter has been up to." Uma said taking the pleading girl out the room, shutting the door behind them.

Red  let out the lightest chuckle at this whole commotion, it made me smile that she was still her self after being trapped in a freezer. "I wasn't even that cold." She said faintly and scoffed, she said this as she was shivering. "Someone's gone back to their normal self." After I said that the nurse walked in, letting us know that we should be able to go back to the dorm, she said we could take the heating blanket with us.

Red's POV

I still felt so cold, moving from this blanket was the last thing I wanted to do. I also didn't want to stay in this room, I missed my dorm, and Chloe's warmth.

Just as I stood up straight I let out a sharp gasp, feeling the sharp pain from the cut in my thigh. Chloe held my hand keeping me balanced as I looked at wraps around my upper thigh, laying down I couldn't even feel it. I guess the nurse gave me Tylenol, I completely forgot it was there.

Chloe sat me on the other bed while she wrapped up the blanket, just when she was done she picked me up, it was unexpected of her.

"I can walk." I said while she looked down on me. "I like cradling you, plus I don't want you putting any unnecessary pressure on ur leg. That was a deep slash." She shivered at the thought as she carried me out the room, leaving the blanket in my arms. "Yea but I don't want to be-" "you're not a bother, princess. I want to help you, okay?" She cut me short, her words were certain and firm. I nodded my head in acceptance, fiddling with her necklace during the walk.

We finally got to the dorm and Chloe placed me on the edge of the bed as gently as she possibly could, even at the gentle movements I still felt the burning gash in my thigh. I tried not to make any noise of pain because I didn't want Chloe to feel as though it was her fault, because it wasn't.

As Chloe got me some different clothes I could see a hint a guilt throughout her facial expression, she tried to bury it but wasn't doing a great job. I knew why she was feeling like this though. "It's not your fault Chloe." I said just as she placed the clothes right beside me, causing her to stop in place. "What?" She asked, a little confused. "It's not your fault. I can tell you're blaming yourself for what happened in the bathroom." I spoke, I maintained eye contact but she was struggling.

"I'm sure you think so Red. But you were in there for so long.. a second longer than it could've detrimental to your whole body. I just..- I waited. Thinking that you were upset with me, the thought you being hurt crossed my mind but I blew over it. I can't help but feel some form of guilt." As she spoke she straightened up my bed and ran some warm water in the bathroom.

I could tell she was full regret about the thought, everything she just said weighed on her. "Chloe it's not-" I tried to speak, I really needed to downgrade her thoughts and guilt but she cut me short. "It's fine princess, just.. shower okay? After being stuck in there you couldn't use a warm one, yea?" Her voice timid and shaky.

My lips pressed together at her clear attempt to change the subject, I reluctantly nodded my head, not wanting to push her any further. I'm sure her mind has been racing ever since she found me.

I slowly lifted myself from the bed, just barely putting weight on the leg with the massive gash, thinking about it, it's going to leave a huge scar. Not like I don't already have so many though so I guess it doesn't matter. "Do you need help?" Chloe asked, I chuckled at her quick offer but politely shook my head. "Thank you princess, I'll need to get on my feet when sports start next week." I said slowly making my way to the bathroom. "Okay..don't hesitate to ask for help please." She spoke, watching me limp over to the bathroom.

I knew I wasn't going to ask her for help, I'd never been good at that and why start now? Plus I won't need it, I'm pretty independent especially when I'm hurt.

I started to unwrap the once white wraps off my thigh, they weren't as tight as I thought they were but still kept there place. I looked at the wound that was just barely starting to heal, it almost cover my whole thigh. I smiled a little at the scar. "She got me good" I said to myself, I guess Chloe heard because she questioned me with a simple hum. "Nothing, just the scar looks crazy." I said chuckling a little.

"Stop Red. Having a scar like that is not something to be proud of." She spoke with a bit of confusion in her voice. "You're no fun princess." I chimed, I heard her laugh on the other side of the room.

Chloe's POV

I sat at my desk and studied for a few upcoming tests, only to be a bit distracted by Reds quiet gasps of pain, they were always followed by an "are you okay." She always said yes but I didn't believe that. "Red, can I wrap your leg back up for you?" I asked as I heard the shower water go off. "Of course princess." Her voice was cheerful and happy, something I wouldn't expect to hear after the eventful day. After a minute or three Red came out wearing shorts and a long T, she held the wraps in her hand.

I couldn't help but look towards her upper thigh, looking to where her wound rested painfully.

I felt weird twists and turns in my stomach at the sight of it. "It's fine princess. Do you want me to stand or sit?" She asked, snapping me out of the trance I was recently in. "Stand." I said, knowing it'd be easier for me to wrap her if she were standing. I took the wraps from her, sitting  up on my calf's for balance while she kept the leg of her shorts lifted up.

Just after the third wrap around the girls bursted through the door, causing me to jump and almost drop the wraps.

I felt Red jump a little too at the abrupt arrival. "Shit Ruby. You guys should knock." Red said, I continued to wrap her leg, keeping myself concentrated on one simple task. "Sorry! We just wanted to tell you-" Ruby cut her self off when she realized what was going on. "What happened Red?" Her voice dropped and she sounded genuinely worried. "Are you okay?" Leah followed right after her. "I'm fine! Nothing with Kai this time, I'll let you guys know later." She said, wincing a little at my wrappings. "Sorry.." I said barely above a whisper. "Can we tell you guys!! Please" Ruby begged. "Shoot girls." I said, although my expression was kind of blunt and direct I really wanted to know what they were doing after that kiss.

"Leah and I.. we are officially a couple!!" Her words cut me off from my concentration, my head snapping towards the two. "no way!!" I said excitedly. "I knew it, see I'm a great match maker!" Red spoke confidently, letting her ego get the best of her.

"Sure you are." Ruby laughed. I noticed Red move her midway wrapped leg a bit since she made a silent gasp. "Hold still. I'm almost done." I tapped the balk of her calf. "Yes ma'am." Her voice was low but also jokingly. "Were you guys kissing before you came here?" She asked the two.

I continued to wrap her wound, I was trying to stay focus but the smell of cashmere and vanilla washed over me, I felt like I was drowning in it. "Real mature Red." Leah said, "I'm sure you were." Just when she finished speaking I finished wrapping her leg, it only took so long because I wasn't fully focused, and I needed it to be perfect. Standing up after sitting like that for a few minutes was harsh on my legs, but I managed. "If you guys are really dating, then kiss." I said with a subtle grin, I already knew they were dating, but I just wanted to see them kiss,Red nodded along side me. Just then Leah Leaned in to kiss Ruby, and they did! I was shocked almost, but I was also stuck in awe.

While we were all watching movies and talking on the couch we got a knock at the door, Red was just about to get up but a placed my arm across her chest keeping her placed on the couch.

"I got it, you stay here." I said giving her a warm smile before getting up. I was just a bit hesitant, worried it would've been someone seeking revenge. To my surprise it was just principle Uma. "Hey girls! You two, be in your dorms by curfew." She said as she noticed the little party we had going on.

I let her in the dorm and she kept her eyes on Red and I, I was hoping she was delivering good news. "I don't mean to bother this late (6:34 PM) but I just wanted to let you know after today AP is going on break for all the upcoming sports and after school activities in two weeks. Chloe, all your first student council meeting is on Thursday at 3:00. Red wrestling will start probably the same day as obstacle training, obstacle training will come first and the wrestling afterwards. Also, Neve won't be coming back to AP. Her mother unenrolled her, and she's expelled." She informed us. "Okay! Thank you principal Uma!" I said excitedly, the thought of student council starting geeked me out! "I'll let you know when tryouts start, Red. Have a nice night girls! And no more missing classes after break." She said while walking out the door, shutting it on her way out.

"Are you sure you can do all of your sports with that leg Red?" I said a little hesitant while locking the door, she nodded her excitedly head and hummed. Her eyes sparkled and I could tell that she was super excited about the upcoming events.

After a long 8 minutes of Red explaining her whole day she was finally finished, not that I was tired of her speaking of course! I just felt a weight pressing down on me with every detail she implied.

I could feel guilt weighing on me as she told me what really happened in the bathroom, I realized I hadn't known the whole story either.. "Then Chloe found me! Can't lie it wasn't even that cold in there. Like I was cold sure, but I could've stayed in there a few more hours totally."  You know, I'm not sure where Red is getting this high ego from, I find it cute though because she's always wrong. Except about getting the girls together, match maker for sure. "Red. You were barely moving, your leg was turning pale and-"

Thats when I felt Red's hand overlap with my mouth. My brows furrowed as she turned back to the girls, speaking her nonsense. "She's just kidding." She said laughing nervously, I'm not sure why she's acting all high and mighty when the girls know I'm truthful about this. "Sure Red. That cut on your leg says it all." Leah said laughing a little. I started licking Red's hand to get it off my mouth, to which it worked immediately. "Gross, Chloe!" We all laughed as she wiped her hand on me.

We all watched a few more movies and did a bunch of talking before the girls went back to their dorms, it was starting to get late and Ruby was dozing off. It's so cute how they are in a relationship now, I knew it'd happen but now it's finally here I can't help but see how adorable they are.

Once I waved the girls out I turned around to see Red messing with her leg wrap. "Red quit it!" I said, her head poking up to look at me, followed by an eye roll. "Cmon let's get you into bed yea?" She nodded her head before yawning. I walked over to where she was sitting and just as I was about to lift her I made sure she was okay and if she was ready.

After picking her up off the couch she let out a silent wince, I knew it was her leg that was bothering her so I tried to be gentle. "I got you, princess." I said softly while walking over to her Bed side. Placing her down I noticed the look on her face. She was trying to cover up the fact she was in a lot of discomfort and pain but I could see right through it. "Do you want some pain medicine?" I asked already knowing the answer. "No. I'm fine, thank you though Bluey." I rolled my eyes in her lack of self care, she was going to sleep in pain all night. There wasn't much I could do, I couldn't force her to take them so I just let her be.

"You know because you're this injured I can't be in the bed with you, I can't risk you hurting your leg more with all the cuddling we do." I said smiling a bit, almost taunting her and myself. "No way. You're joking." She said as her face dropped. I shook my head, pressing my lips together to let her know I wasn't joking. "This will be the death of me. I'm in pain and I can't sleep with my own girlfriend?! Just dig my grave now Charming." She spoke dramatically, throwing a small fit which made me giggle. "I'll be in my Bed alright princess? Please try and stay put." I spoke before giving her a quick kiss. She waved bye to me as if it'd be the last time I'll ever see her, it was cute so I waved bye back. After I cut out the room light I got into bed, shutting off my lamp when heading to sleep.

Just as I was about to fall asleep I heard Red speak, "Chloe.." she said with a low voice, I could tell she was barely awake herself. "Yes princess?" "I miss you." I giggled a little at her response before getting up once more to give her a final kiss on the cheek, leaving her to sleep peacefully to which I did the same in my own bed.
