5 More Minutes: Chapter 4
5 More Minutes (Timeless Series Book 1)
IÂ WATCHED HER leave and felt Sam come up next to me.
âThatâs the famous Nina?â
âThatâs her.â I couldnât deny the smile on my face as I watched her. She had taken the black robe off, and the sweet red summer dress she had been wearing beneath showed off the sweet curves of her body.
âI get it. I think. Whoâs the girl with the red hair?â
âHer best friend, Macie.â
âNice ass.â
âShut up, man.â
âSo? How badly did you fuck up?
âScale of one to ten?â
âSure, letâs start low.â
âTwenty probably.â I sighed, running my hands through my hair and resting them atop my head. Iâd moved too fast. Pushed too hard. But there was a chance. She didnât hate me. She still loved me.
âSalvageable?â
âI think so.â
âSo?â
âShe said to text her my hotel number.â
âThen what the fuck are you waiting for?â
âFor her to really think what giving her my room number means for us.â
âDude.â He laughed, and I turned to look at him. âI hate to break your bubble here, but you do know even if you give her the number, thereâs no guarantee sheâs coming to see you?â he said, planting the seed of doubt in my head. He wasnât wrong.
âShit,â I cursed. Here I had been feeling slightly confident the ball was in my court, but it really wasnât.
Fucking Sam and his practical logic.
What if I did text her and she didnât show up?
Nina âLeti,â I warned as we stepped into the bathroom.
âOh no⦠nu-uh. There will be no Letiâing me. Not when you have that dopey look on your face,â my younger-by-two years sister said, and I rolled my eyes trying to school my face. I just couldnât. She was probably right. I was probably sporting a dopey smiley look.
âI agree. Somethingâs up. Spill,â Macie added as we stepped into the spacious bathroom at the restaurant. âSomethingâs up with you. Youâre like a huge bundle of nerves all tightly wound.â
âSpill what? I have no idea what you guys are talking about.â It wasnât that I was trying to keep Brandon a secret. I just had no clue what had happened and much less of an idea of what would happen. I glanced at my cell. Still no text.
âShe has no idea,â Mace repeated, looking at Leti, and Leti had the nerve to laugh, shaking her head.
âI know that look, Nina.â She grinned, pressing her lips together, her eyes wide and on me, waiting me out like the nosy younger sibling she was. âYouâre nowhere as smooth as you think you are.â
âI have no idea what youâre talking about,â I denied, acting like I still couldnât feel his lips on mine and his arms around me.
âBrandon freaking Chu, thatâs who Iâm talking about.â
âWhat about him?â I asked, but even I could hear the tremble in my own voice.
âOh my god, was he there?â Macie asked, looking back and forth between Leti and me.
âWhat?â I scoffed, but Leti was looking at me like she knew, and I cracked, âHow did⦠When did you see him?â
âI didnât.â She giggled. âI just guessed, and you confirmed,â Leti said with an I told-you-so smile pasted on her face.
âYouâre a pain in the ass.â
âYou love me though.â
âI donât have a choice.â
âWait, focus!â Macie ordered. âHe was at graduation?â
âYeah.â
âAnd?â
âAnd we should get back to the table before Mom and Ita come in here andââ
âNina.â Leti spoke softly knowing the tone would get me to stop and look at her. âWhat happened?â
âI have no idea.â I shrugged. âI promise Iâll tell you. I just⦠My mindâs still spinning, and I seriously need some food so I can process it all. Okay? Just⦠give me a little time.â
âWas it good or bad to see him?â Leti asked, wanting to take the pulse of the situation, but before I could answer, Macie cut in.
âWas he not hot anymore?â she asked. The worry in her face made me laugh.
âI wishâ¦â I shook my head, the image of him and what he looked like now fresh in my mind. âHeâs hotter. All muscly and strong and⦠and the ball is in his court because I stupidly did it that way. I justâ¦â
âOkay. Food and sake and then some talky,â Leti said, hooking her arm in mine and pushing me out of the bathroom, ready to feed me. Little sisters might be a pain in the ass sometimes, but most of the time, they were exactly who you needed in you corner.
