She glanced roughly at the names on the medication.

She took the drugs for the patient in bed eleven, and carefully picked up every bottle, ready to add them to the patient’s ongoing infusion. However, she was only focused on the numeral ’11’, completely disregarding whether the ‘1’ in the patient’s full name was written in an unconventional way. A quick review of the patient record could have revealed that it was different from the name on the medicine, but she didn’t notice. The medicine had two characters, while the patient record had three.

Instructions on using the drug were clearly marked. Wei Jiani had already given many patients injections over the course of her internship, so she knew exactly how and where to administer these medications, even with her eyes closed.

This could cost someone their life.

She rushed to stop the infusion, but noticed that the patient’s complexion had drastically worsened. She pressed the emergency button, calling for help.

Several interns and nurses rushed in, but the on-call doctor was nowhere to be seen.

“Where is the on-call doctor?” asked Li Jia to a nurse.

“Dr. Zhang said he was going to get something. He hasn’t returned yet,” the nurse quickly replied.

“Dr. Wang and Dr. Li are currently busy. One is performing surgery, and the other is treating an emergency case.”

“Then what should we do?” Li Jia raised her voice, pointing at the patient. “Who’s in charge of him?”

A junior nurse dashed out. “What happened? Is there an emergency”

“Wrong medication,” pointed out Li Jia to the name on the medication bottle, “How could you be so careless? This patient had gastric bleeding and just underwent surgery, but the medication given was anticoagulant.”

“No, that is not possible,” the nurse shook her head, “I clearly remember that this patient had gastric bleeding. I won’t mistake the medication.”

“But look,” she invited the nurse to check the medication. Now the nurse could see the medication was indeed wrong. She went pale and rushed to find Wei Jiani, who was now trying to avoid eye contact and pretending to be oblivious.

Obviously, she was flustered as well. A bead of cold sweat rolled down from her forehead. She cursed herself for being careless. Somehow she had fetched the medication, yet she failed to cross-check the name. She had now given the wrong medication. What should she do?

None of the people inside, including the interns and just said anything.

Their eyes were fixed on a patient. Tang Yuxin came forward and found something wrong immediately. There were so many people around him, but he still didn’t wake up. He seemed almost lifeless.

Without uttering a word, she stormed over and took the patient’s pulse. Moreover, she didn’t hestitate to immediately take some action.

“Wake up…” she lightly tapped on the patient’s face, but there was no response from him, he didn’t wake up.

She unbuttoned his shirt and gently pressed on his stomach.

“Where’s the duty doctor?” she turned around and asked the nurses standing around.

“Dr.Wang and Dr. Li are busy with emergency cases,” a nurse hurriedly replied.

“Contact them now.”

Tang Yuxin continued checking the patient’s abdomen.

After a few moments, she told the nurses, “Get ready for surgery immediately.”

“Surgery?” Li Jia was taken by surprise. “What kind of surgery?”

“Large gastric bleed,” Tang Yuxin stood up without showing any sense of urgency. But Li Jia was frightened by the term “large gastric bleed,” and feared for her patient’s life.

“Let’s do a gastric ultrasound first to be sure,” Tang Yuxin tied her hair up, realizing a surgery seemed inevitable.

Several nurses had already left to prepare for the surgery.

The equipment for abdominal ultrasound was wheeled in and the result was exactly as Tang Yuxin had predicted. The bleeding was severe, the loss of blood quite substantial.

The situation was increasingly dire. If surgery was not performed immediately, lives could be in danger.
