Chapter 439 - 433: Trouble Caused by Performance
My Wife Is A Miracle Doctor In The 80s
She glanced roughly at the names on the medication.
She took the drugs for the patient in bed eleven, and carefully picked up every bottle, ready to add them to the patientâs ongoing infusion. However, she was only focused on the numeral â11â, completely disregarding whether the â1â in the patientâs full name was written in an unconventional way. A quick review of the patient record could have revealed that it was different from the name on the medicine, but she didnât notice. The medicine had two characters, while the patient record had three.
Instructions on using the drug were clearly marked. Wei Jiani had already given many patients injections over the course of her internship, so she knew exactly how and where to administer these medications, even with her eyes closed.
She was extremely confident about her professional skills. No one among the interns could beat her. Her mentors had always said that she was naturally suited to become a doctor. Although she initially didnât want to attend medical school, now she felt satisfied with her decision.
Tang Yuxin meant nothing to her. The thought of staying in the main hospital while Tang Yuxin had to go elsewhere excited her beyond measure.
While lost in her visionary thoughts, she replaced the empty medicine bottle with a new one. Swinging the medicine tray, she walked out with a confident stride. Li Jia, who came in a moment later, was left with the task of documenting- how the patients were doing, how many bottles of medication they had, and whether any special events had occurred.
After a thorough inspection, she couldnât find anything unusual. She casually picked up the patientâs record hanging on the bed.
Li Guoji, what a good name.
Having flipped through the case file, she saw nothing wrong. So she hung the record back up and was about to leave. However, as she reached the door, she noticed that perhaps the IV drip had been a little too fast.
She adjusted the IV speed and glanced at the name on the medicine bottle again.
Qin Bei.
What about Liu Bei? She muttered to herself. But soon after, she froze.
Qin Bei, two characters.
She couldnât believe what she was seeing. She scrutinized the drug bottle for a long time. No way could she have mistaken it. Her vision was clear and sharp, but the medication was for the wrong person. She quickly grabbed the patient record and started to compare.
Li Guoji, Bed Eleven, underwent surgery for gastric bleeding.
However, the medicine bottle read: Qin Bei, bed eleven. Wait, that wasnât eleven, that was seventeen. Cold sweat rolled down her forehead. Who could have made such a blunder? The patient with gastric bleeding was supposed to receive an anticoagulant, not a blood thinner.
This could cost someone their life.
She rushed to stop the infusion, but noticed that the patientâs complexion had drastically worsened. She pressed the emergency button, calling for help.
Several interns and nurses rushed in, but the on-call doctor was nowhere to be seen.
âWhere is the on-call doctor?â asked Li Jia to a nurse.
âDr. Zhang said he was going to get something. He hasnât returned yet,â the nurse quickly replied.
âDr. Wang and Dr. Li are currently busy. One is performing surgery, and the other is treating an emergency case.â
âThen what should we do?â Li Jia raised her voice, pointing at the patient. âWhoâs in charge of him?â
A junior nurse dashed out. âWhat happened? Is there an emergencyâ
âWrong medication,â pointed out Li Jia to the name on the medication bottle, âHow could you be so careless? This patient had gastric bleeding and just underwent surgery, but the medication given was anticoagulant.â
âNo, that is not possible,â the nurse shook her head, âI clearly remember that this patient had gastric bleeding. I wonât mistake the medication.â
âBut look,â she invited the nurse to check the medication. Now the nurse could see the medication was indeed wrong. She went pale and rushed to find Wei Jiani, who was now trying to avoid eye contact and pretending to be oblivious.
Obviously, she was flustered as well. A bead of cold sweat rolled down from her forehead. She cursed herself for being careless. Somehow she had fetched the medication, yet she failed to cross-check the name. She had now given the wrong medication. What should she do?
âWhatâs going on, why are you all gathered here?â Tang Yuxin had just finished her rounds and was surprised to find no one outside. Why was everyone huddled inside? Was there a meeting or an intimate gossip session or did someone find money?
None of the people inside, including the interns and just said anything.
Their eyes were fixed on a patient. Tang Yuxin came forward and found something wrong immediately. There were so many people around him, but he still didnât wake up. He seemed almost lifeless.
Without uttering a word, she stormed over and took the patientâs pulse. Moreover, she didnât hestitate to immediately take some action.
âWake upâ¦â she lightly tapped on the patientâs face, but there was no response from him, he didnât wake up.
She unbuttoned his shirt and gently pressed on his stomach.
âWhereâs the duty doctor?â she turned around and asked the nurses standing around.
âDr.Wang and Dr. Li are busy with emergency cases,â a nurse hurriedly replied.
âIsnât there another on-call doctor today?â Tang Yuxin thought. In such a big hospital, there was always more than one on-call doctor at night, it was impossible that she was unable to find one.@@novelbin@@
âDr.Zhang said he went to get some stuff and hasnât returned yet.â
âContact them now.â
Tang Yuxin continued checking the patientâs abdomen.
After a few moments, she told the nurses, âGet ready for surgery immediately.â
âSurgery?â Li Jia was taken by surprise. âWhat kind of surgery?â
âLarge gastric bleed,â Tang Yuxin stood up without showing any sense of urgency. But Li Jia was frightened by the term âlarge gastric bleed,â and feared for her patientâs life.
âLetâs do a gastric ultrasound first to be sure,â Tang Yuxin tied her hair up, realizing a surgery seemed inevitable.
Several nurses had already left to prepare for the surgery.
The equipment for abdominal ultrasound was wheeled in and the result was exactly as Tang Yuxin had predicted. The bleeding was severe, the loss of blood quite substantial.
The situation was increasingly dire. If surgery was not performed immediately, lives could be in danger.
