Evil Boys: Chapter 33
Evil Boys (Spine Ridge University)
A few days later
I tap my pen back and forth, but I canât for the life of me focus on my homework. This paper isnât going to fucking write itself, but dammit, my mind is somewhere else.
âI really donât get this part,â Brooke says.
âWhat?â I mutter.
I almost forgot Brooke and Irina were here too.
âOh nothing, Iâm just really wondering why on earth I chose this class.â
I laugh. âI can relate to that.â
âNo shit, what are we even doing here? Why arenât we out there socializing, drinking, and having a fucking party? I thought that was what college was all about.â
âCollege kind of implies studying too,â I jest.
âYeah, who even made that up?â She sighs. âIâm so done with this.â
Irina laughs. âYou always say that, yet youâre still here.â
âExactly. Why donât I just stop?â Brooke whines.
I grab her papers and hand her a bottle of water. âHave a drink first. Take a breath. Try again later.â
She groans but still takes the bottle to chug down some water. âYouâre always so calm and collected. I donât know how you do it.â
I snort. âThatâs just what I want you to see. On the inside, Iâm a raging witch.â
âWell, that makes two of us,â she retorts, laughing. She spots someone behind us, and her eyes almost melt off her face. âOh my God, donât look. Itâs those Phantom boys. I think theyâre coming over here.â
âWait, what?â
She slaps me with a book when I attempt to look over my shoulder. âI said donât look.â
âWhy not?â I hiss back, frowning. âAre you scared or something?â
âI donât want to look desperate.â
My face contorts as I try to keep my laugh together. âGirl, why?â
âWe danced, remember? At their party?â she says.
Oh right, I almost forgot Kai danced with them. But he only did that to get information out of them about me.
Brooke taps Irinaâs shoulder. âQuick, does my lipstick look good?â
âYou look fine,â Irina replies. âWho is it?â
Brooke whispers, âI think itâs Nathan.â
Oh boy.
And here I was, trying to keep my shit together.
After our altercation in his room the other day, I havenât been able to think about much else. The way he looked at me, almost as if he could want more from me than just my body, still makes me shiver.
Something has changed.
Not just with him ⦠but with me.
When I saw that little girl jump into his arms, I think it was the first time I saw him for the man he really is. Protective and loving. And that scares me.
I canât help but turn my head, curious if heâs really on his way here.
Nathan marches into the place like he owns it in that preppy boy outfit of his, and my eyes instinctively follow wherever he goes. His swagger is unmistakable as he looks around, searching for something. I look up, almost wondering if itâs me heâs after. His eyes briefly connect with mine, and the pen in my hand stops moving. I canât look away even though I know I should.
These fucking boys arenât right for me.
Theyâre a foul distraction, nothing more than devils in disguise looking for trouble.
Yet I canât seem to stop thinking about every dirty fucking thing they did to my body. Especially now that I know why.
It doesnât excuse what they did, but for some reason, it feels like it all suddenly makes sense.
But theyâre actively extorting you, Lana.
Nathan sets his eyes on Milo, whoâs chatting on the couch with a guy Iâve never seen before. A guy with long black hair and a charming smile. Nathan talks to the guy like he knows him, and I wonder how many more friends those two have outside of the Phantom Society. If they told anyone about me.
Thatâd be ridiculous. You donât want anyone to know about you. What if they find out what you really enjoy?
I bite my lip and focus on the paper again, but Brooke canât stop staring at me, and itâs such a distraction.
âWhat?â I bark.
She smirks. âYouâve got the hots for him.â
I scowl. âNo, I do not.â
Suddenly, someone throws a bunch of books on the table, and I look up to see Crystal standing in front of us. âHey guys!â She tucks a strand of her hair behind her ear, revealing a rose adorning her hair. âMind if I join you with to study? Sitting by myself is much less fun.â
We all look at her like weâve seen a ghost.
âWhat? Am I not welcome?â
âOf course you are,â Brooke says, scooting back a chair for her.
Crystal narrows her eyes at us. âWhat are yâall talking about?â
âNothing,â we say in unison.
She looks at us like weâve lost our marbles. Maybe we have, Iâm not sure.
âOoookay,â she mutters. âThat sounds like a mutual secret. Am I butting in to something?â
âOh no, itâs no secret Lanaâs got the hots for Nathan,â Brooke muses.
Crystalâs eyes widen. âNathan?â
I slap Brookeâs arm with her own book. âThe hell I do.â
âYour mouth says that, but your eyes tell a different story.â Brooke laughs.
âOh my God, Brooke, you canât just throw peopleâs secret crushes around,â Irina tells her.
âToo late,â Brooke muses, proud of herself.
Crystal sits down. âWell, tell me all about it.â
âNo,â I reply staunchly.
âWhy not?â Crystal asks, putting down her books. âNathanâs a friend of mine. I want to know what heâs up to. And with Felixâs sister, no less.â
âThereâs nothing to tell,â I say, fighting the blush on my cheeks with everything Iâve got.
Nothing I could ever tell them anyway.
Brooke swivels around on her chair and circles her pom-pom pen at me. âOooh ⦠sheâs getting flushed. Sheâs totally kissed him already.â
Irina gasps. âWow, is that true? He didnât even tell me.â
âI never said anythingââ
âYou donât have to. I can see it from the way you look at him,â Brooke interrupts.
âHow do I look at him?â Iâm getting a little aggressive now, but I donât want anyone to know anything about anyone.
âLike you want to eat him up and then some.â She smirks.
Fuck.
âThe sister of a Skull & Serpent Society member with a Phantom Society member?â Brooke says. Like it would be such a scandal.
I raise a finger. âDonât. Say. That. Out. Loud.â
âWhy?â Brooke muses. âYour brother isnât here.â
âNo, but those Skull & Serpent guys are everywhere, and I donât know all of those fuckers who join that frat, so can you please keep your voice down?â
Her brow rises. âSo you admit you hooked up?â
âNo,â I retort.
Crystal smashes her lips together to hide a grin. âLana?â
âWhat?â I still canât help the blush from spreading on my cheeks. âI plead the Fifth.â
âWhatâs this heated discussion about?â
We all look up to see Milo casually swaying a bottle of water back and forth.
âOh, donât mind me, Iâm just here for the tea.â
âWhat tea? There is none. Why are you here?â I ask.
âNathan asked me to check on you. See if you need anything.â
My eyes widen, and they immediately connect with Nathan, who winks at me.
He actually fucking winks at me.
What the hell is going on here?
All three girls stare at me with blown-up cheeks before they burst out into laughter. âOh my God, so itâs true!â
âMilo!â I stand. âCan you not?â
âWhat? You know I always do what Iâm told.â He winks. âDo you need some water to cool down?â
âSince when do you two even care what I need?â I bark back.
âOh ⦠oh boy, this is getting hot,â Brooke mumbles to Crystal.
âWait a minute, you know both of them?â Crystal asks me.
âOh, she knows me all right,â Milo muses, licking his lips. âAnd she knows Iâm always at her service.â
He grabs my hand and presses a kiss on top, and the girls practically swoon with excitement.
Good God.
I did not want this public display.
Not in a million years.
Yet I canât even move as he layers it on extra thick and says, âMy lady.â
