Evil Boys: Chapter 56
Evil Boys (Spine Ridge University)
âThis whole thing with Lana is your fucking fault,â Kai grits while I throw my bag on the first table I find inside the Phantom Society building. âIf you hadnât taken those pictures, no one wouldâve ever seen them.â
âI didnât fucking share them,â I say, my voice booming through the hallway.
âBullshit, who else couldâve done it? You?â Kai points his finger at Milo now, who just stares at him sheepishly.
âWho me? Of course not, why would I?â he replies.
Kai marches at him and grabs him by the shirt. âDid you share them with anyone?â
Milo shakes his head. âNo. Theyâre on Nathanâs laptop, thatâs it.â
âI havenât kept them anywhere else. I swear,â I say.
Kaiâs eyes narrow. âHow the fuck did those pictures get out then?â
I rub my forehead. âI donât fucking know.â
âWas it even safe? What if someone broke in, huh?â Kai growls. âThis is all on you.â He paces around. âIf I lose her because of this, I swear to God â¦â
âYouâll what?â I retort, standing my ground. âKill me?â
He marches to me but stops mere inches away from my face. âDonât give me a reason, Nathan.â
âI never thought a girl would get between us,â I say under my breath.
âAnd I never thought youâd be so careless about the only thing that kept her bound to us.â
âWhat do you mean?â Milo asks.
âWe made a deal with her to safeguard her secret, and now itâs all out in the open.â He grinds his teeth. âThereâs nothing left to stop her from running.â
âYes, there is,â Milo says, making a fist. âUs.â
âShe hates me now,â I say. âThere is no us.â
âNo, youâre right,â Kai says. âThere is no us. But there is me.â
He narrows his eyes, staring me down like he means to tell me I no longer matter.
That Iâve forfeited my spot in this society over this mishap.
My fists ball. âI didnât fucking do it.â
âThen who the fuck did because they were only on your fucking laptop?â Kai retorts, getting up in my face.
âGuys, donât fight. Please.â Milo tries to squeeze between us, to no avail.
âDid you take the laptop out of this house?â Kai grits.
âItâs my school laptop, but I always take it wherever I go,â I say. âI just brought it to the library, and â¦â My eyes travel away from his as terror slowly sinks into me. âOh God.â
Kai grips my collar. âWhat?â
I avert my eyes, lost in my memories, drowning in the hatred bubbling to the surface. âCaleb was there. When I got the phone call from my mom, I told him to watch my stuff.â
Kaiâs nostrils flare. âCaleb? From that Tartarus House?â
âHis ex,â Milo mutters, putting his hand in front of his mouth.
âHe was chatting me up. I thought he was just trying to be friends again,â I say between thoughts.
Kaiâs jaw tenses before he finally releases me. âYou think he stole them and shared them with everyone?â
âWho else could it have been?â Milo asks. âI would never share those pictures myself. I treasure them. And I know Nathan does too.â
But Iâm not listening to anything theyâre saying anymore because of the fire raging in my body. âIâm gonna kill him.â
I slam both fists onto the Tartarus House. âCALEB. SHOW YOUR FUCKING FACE!â
âMaybe itâd help if you ring the doorbell?â Milo says, casually pushing the button.
I keep ramming my fists onto the wood until the pain reverberates in my arms. But itâs still not enough to quell the rage inside my heart.
He did this. It has to have been him. No one else had access to my laptop. I carry it with me everywhere I go. The only exception was that one fucking phone call.
When I stop, Milo rings the doorbell again.
After a few seconds, someone finally opens the door.
âSee?â Milo muses.
But I just ram my fist into the guyâs face instead, hurling him to the floor.
âWhere the fuck is Caleb?â I yell as I grab him by the shirt and lift him from the floor to meet my fist for a second time.
âWow, chill, dude. I donât know,â the guy says. âHey, arenât you â¦?â
âPhantoms, yes,â Kai says with his hands in his pocket.
âWhat the fuck do you want from Caleb?â the guy asks.
âNo worries, Iâm here.â
I release the guy from my grip at the sound of Calebâs voice. He approaches from behind us with a bag slung over his shoulder.
âYou â¦â I grit as I turn to face him. âYou motherfucking asshole!â I yell, grasping him by the collar. âYou stole my pictures, didnât you?â
âI didnât steal shit,â he retorts. âAre you accusing me?â
My teeth almost break from the amount of grinding Iâm doing.
For a split second, I contemplate biting into his flesh instead.
âNathan.â Kaiâs warning voice pulls me back from the violent beyond. âDonât.â
Fuck.
We canât risk getting even more enemies. The Skull & Serpent Society is already enough to have on our plate. We donât need the fucking Tartarus House on top of that too.
âGo on. Ask me what you wanna ask,â Caleb murmurs.
I can barely speak without sounding like a mad man.âDid you send my picture of Lana to everyoneâs email?â
âNo.â
My nails dig into my skin. âDonât. Fucking. Lie.â
âIt wasnât me,â he growls. âI already tried to tell you that, but you wonât believe me.â
âNo shit!â I spit back. âYou were the only one in the library with me.â
âThere were a ton of other people,â he quips.
âYet you were the one watching my laptop.â
âWas I?â He lifts a brow. âOr did you just tell me to?â
Fuck.
I probably did, but Iâd assume heâd do it.
My teeth grind together.
âWe werenât the only ones there,â he adds.
Heâs the only one with a motive, though.
âYouâre the only one to hate me enough to send that picture to the whole goddamn school.â Fury makes me lash out, and I roar before I raise another fist. âYou motherfââ
âEnough.â
A stern voice coming from the front door makes me stop midair.
Blaineâs standing there, gripping the doorjamb, glaring at both of us.
âI wonât allow you to soil this ground with blood,â Blaine says, smiling when he sees me looking. âYouâre all better than that. Câmon. You were lovers once, right?â
âTrue,â Milo muses.
âShut up,â I bark at him.
âYour boy Caleb over here decided to put some very private pictures of Lana and us on the group chat,â Kai growls at Blaine.
âI did not,â Caleb retorts. âAnd I keep telling them that, but they refuse to believe me.â
Blaine walks out of the Tartarus House and approaches us. âInteresting.â He stops when he reaches me while I still have Caleb in a death grip, ready to pound his head in. âCaleb, youâll fix this.â
âWhat? But I didnât do shiââ
Blaine interrupts him with a single finger. âJust do it.â
âHow is he gonna fix this?â I retort. âEveryoneâs already seen the picture. Fuck knows the entire internet by now.â
âTurn it into a story,â Blaine says, waving his hand. âMake her look like a victim.â
âWhat ⦠you mean turn us into predators?â Kai folds his arms and tilts his head. âYou think Iâm going to agree to that?â
âYour girlfriend must hate you right now, no?â Blaine retorts.
Kaiâs eye twitches, but he doesnât respond.
âThen I guess this is the only chance youâve got to make it right.â
âUm ⦠is everyone forgetting the dead body in the picture?â Milo pulls out his phone to show it to both Caleb and Blaine.
Kai snatches the phone out of his hand. âGreat job, Milo. Now even more people saw it.â
âThey already did.â He shrugs.
âYes, Iâm aware of the dead body,â Blaine says. âIâve seen the picture.â
âPeople will assume sheâs a killer now,â Kai says.
âNot if we make people believe the three masked men in the photo were responsible,â he says, a hint of a smile forming at the left corner of his lip.
âGo on,â Kai says.
âTake your guy off Caleb first.â
Kai throws me a glance, and I hesitantly move off Caleb, lifting him to his feet.
He pats down his shirt and pants and brushes off the remaining dirt. âAsshole.â
âYouâll probably have to pose for another kill with those masks on for it to work, though,â Blaine says.
âCaleb can help with that,â I snarl at him. âI can turn you into a corpse in no time.â
âFine. I donât care how, just make it happen,â Kai says. âWe have to make the school believe sheâs innocent.â
Suddenly, my phone buzzes.
I fish it from my pocket, but when I see the message, all the anger I felt for Caleb is redirected at the phone.
Romeo: You really, really, shouldnât have come to our club, Nathan ⦠Your girlfriend left quite the mess.
I snap as the phone screen cracks under the weight of a cruel frenzy to tear him from limb to limb.
Romeo: Iâm so glad one of my guys managed to catch a glimpse of her face, though. It was easy to find her. Come with money, and I might give her back. If you donât ⦠Iâll sell her to the highest bidder.
