Chapter 11: The Date
Send It To My Phone
Krissy's Point of View
Morgan was applying a light layer of blush to my cheeks. She was then going to apply my lip color and she was done with the makeup. I got up from my seat in front of my vanity and walked over to the full size mirror in my room. I gasped at what I saw.
I was wearing a pair of dark wash boyfriend jeans with light beige wedges. My top was a three-quarter, white lacey top. My hair was in a half up, half down. My makeup was simple, light colors on the eye and a nude lip. I had light blush on my cheeks.
I wasn't going to try hard. If Blake has been chasing me for the last two months, he won't care what I wear. Besides, we're just going to the diner. Yet, he doesn't know I know that.
I'm still worried about not being Krissy for the night. He asked for me to be his server, yet I wasn't going to be. Hannah was our server. She's the only one working, along with Sally. Sophie is going out with Asher.
She flipped out when he asked her to go out on a date with him. She was also surprised that her brother didn't murder him from wanting to be with his sister. I guess Blake really is turning a new leaf.
"You look amazing." Morgan said while looking at me. I blushed. I felt pretty and not hot like i've looked as Kate. I felt like I was actually Krissy, yet I wasn't.
"Thanks." I said softly. I looked at the time on the wall and saw it was almost time to leave. My nerves started to build up.
"You're picking him up, right?" Morgan said. I nodded. It was the only way I could make sure Blake didn't know where I lived. He's gonna come sooner than I liked since we're partners in Spanish. If he picked me up as Kate, he'd definitely know i'm also Krissy.
"Yeah. I should leave." I said grabbing a tan off the shoulder bag. I stuffed my phone and wallet in. Morgan followed me behind.
"Have fun Kris." She said when we reached my front door. My parents weren't home. So Morgan was going to have the whole house to her self for a couple of hours. She was sleeping over so I could tell her everything. Sophie was also coming over later.
"Thanks Morgan." I told her. I gave her a quick hug before walking out of my house. I started up my car before backing out of my driveway.
After a couple of minutes of driving, I pulled into Blake's large neighborhood. The houses were extravagant as I remembered. Everything was full of luxurious things, things I never had. I felt jealous, but that feeling soon disappeared.
I sometimes resented my parents for not taking money from my grandparents, but I knew they did it for a good reason. I just wished I was able to go to college. I don't like having to worry about where i'm going and how i'm going go pay for it. It's stressful and it takes a toll on me both physically and mentally.
I parked my car in the Tyler mansion driveway. I took a few deep breaths before walking up the steps to the door. I rang the doorbell. A few seconds later the door open.
"Kri-Kate! You're here." Sophie said pulling me into a tight hug. I slightly frowned at the mention of my real name. I looked around the foyer and only saw her. I let out a breath.
"Soph." I whispered. "You almost let out my secret."
"Sorry Kate. I forget." Sophie said sheepishly. I rolled my eyes, letting out a soft giggle. I could never be mad at her. Sophie has become one of my best friends these last few weeks. I don't know how Morgan and I ever survived without her. We have been inseparable.
"Wow."
I looked up to see Blake with wide eyes staring at me. I suddenly felt subconscious. Was I dressed alright? Did he expect me to wear a dress? He doesn't like my outfit. I should go home. What am I even doing here?
"You look amazing Kate." Blake said as he stepped forward. I smiled, my pink cheeks tinting to a red. I felt embarrassed about my inner thoughts. I was here for a reason.
"Thanks Blake." I said. I looked around and saw that Sophie had left. I sighed. I'd feel more comfortable knowing she was here.
"Are you ready to go?" He asked. I nodded. "Let's go."
He stuck his hand out, telling me to walk out first. I opened the door and got a blast of cold air. This November air was not doing it for me. I should have worn a larger coat.
I wrapped my arms around my body before feeling something warm drop over my shoulders. I looked over and saw that Blake had taken off his jacket.
"Thanks." I said softly. He turned towards me with a soft smile before stopping. I frowned. What's wrong?
"You drove here." Blake stated. I nodded slowly. Where's he going with this? "I'm supposed to drive you to our destination."
"You make it sound like it's this big trip." I giggled. Blake rolled his eyes, having an evident smile on his face.
"What i'm trying to get at is that after the date, we have to come back here and then you have to drive home." He told me. I nodded. I didn't see anything wrong with that.
"I can just drive myself home." I said. I felt the chilly air begin to nip at my cheeks. "Can we just get into your car?"
"Yeah." He said while noticing my shivering. "It's this one."
He pointed towards a silver Mercedes. It was parked next to other luxurious cars. I felt jealousy again, but I shook it all away. I have to remember that my parents chose not to be surrounded in expensive things. They wanted to work for what they have and they did. My parents are amazing people who know what it's like to work hard.
They go to work every day and come back at night with a happy face. They're my role models and I have looked up to them since day one. Yes there are times when I wish I didn't have to work, but I know it's shaping me to be a better person. I'll be able to say that I worked for my car or worked for my clothes. I'll be able to say that through hard work and determination I can achieve my dream of going to Harvard.
Harvard. That one word sends chills into me. In just a few months, i'll be moving into my dorm with some stranger. I'm excited to be able to reach my full potential at a school that will test it. I just hope I get in.
"Kate? Are you okay?" Blake asked. I looked to my left. I hadn't even realized I was consumed by my thoughts. We were a few blocks from the diner. The sun was setting, creating a beautiful picture.
"I'm great." I told him. He looked away from the road and sent me a chill provoking smile. It sent butterflies to my stomach.
Was I actually falling for this guy? Did I like Blake more than just a friend? Did I see myself being with him? Was it even worth it? I'll be leaving and he will too. Do I risk my plan for a guy I met at a party? At a party where I wasn't even myself? So many questions made my brain throb.
"Where are we going for dinner?" I asked. Hopefully my brain will stop its ranting and focus on the present. I can think about the future later.
"You'll love it." Was all Blake said before reaching over to turn on the radio. A soft melody played, filling up the car.
A few songs later, we pulled up to the diner. It was emptier than usual but I was grateful for that. One of the regulars could recognize me.
Blake got out of the car and shut his door. He jogged around and came to open mine. I was blasted with another cold wind. It'll be snowing in a few days.
"Thanks." I said. I adjusted his jacket on me, pulling it tighter. He smiled at me before slinging his arm around my shoulder. He pulled me into his side, creating a protective wall from the cold. I instantly felt warmer. I wanted to so badly not feel warm in his arms, but it felt right. It felt like we belonged and that thought scared me.
"I hope you like this. I knew you'd hate fancy things and I really wanted to take you out to eat, so I thought why not the diner. Plus this girl I go to school with works here." Blake said. I smiled, feeling my insides turn to goo. He was considerate which just made him ten points more attractive.
"This is great." I said looking up at him. He untangled himself from me and opened the door to the diner. The little bell above to door rung.
"Welcome! Just two today?" I looked up to see Hannah with a bright smile on her face. I felt my relaxed knowing someone I knew was here, even if I wasn't supposed to know her.
"Yes please. Can we sit in Krissy's section?" Blake asked. I widened my eyes. Hannah's eyes roamed to me before showing Blake a disappointing smile.
"I'm sorry, but Krissy is not here today. If it's alright, i'll be serving you today." Hannah notified him of my situation. Blake nodded, a sad look growing.
"When does she work?" Blake asked. I looked at Hannah.
"Tomorrow I believe. I can show you to your booth now." Hannah said. Blake nodded and reached for my hand. He intertwined our fingers and followed Hannah to a booth in her section.
Blake and I both slid into a side of the booth before looking down at the menus. It felt weird eating at my work, but at least I knew the food was great. I looked up to see Blake looking at me with a smirk.
"Huh?" I asked. He let out a chuckle.
"I asked what would you like to drink?" Hannah repeated her question.
"Oh sorry. A sprite please." I said. She nodded before walking away.
"What are you thinking about baby?" Blake asked. The stupid butterflies returned as he says the pet name.
"What to get?" I said. He raised an eyebrow but didn't ask again. I picked up the menu and stared at all the options. I knew that the burgers were delicious but I wasn't sure if it was the right choice for a date. I could get a salad but I hate lettuce. Chicken tenders with fries seemed like the right choice.
"Kate," Blake said, "on a scale of one to ten, how excited were you for our date?"
"Why?" I asked. I didn't want to divulge my nonexistent dating life with him. As far as he knows, i'm some popular girl from the other side of town. He doesn't know i'm his school nerd, just waiting to further my education.
"I'm an 8. You're different Kate. I don't feel like I have to put up this façade with you. I can be myself." He said. I smiled.
"Also an 8." I said. He gave me one of his heart warming smile.
"Are we all set to order?" Hannah asked when she came back with our drinks. I nodded. "What are we having?"
"I'll have a cheeseburger with fries." Blake said. They both looked at me.
"Chicken tenders with fries." I said. Hannah nodded before taking our menus.
"You food will be out in a few minutes." She said. She smiled at us before turning away.
"So." Blake said. I chuckled. This is where our conversation gets stuck. I have never been great at getting out of uncomfortable situations but I am able to come up with great questions. I use it in class to help further my learning experience. If I don't understand something, I make sure to ask for help. Our schooling is free right now and I am going to make sure I take advantage of it.
"Where was Sophie going?" I asked. He looked caught off guard by my question. He frowned.
"She's going out with my best friend." He said in a monotone voice.
"What's wrong?" I asked. His demeanor changed at the mention of Sophie.
"She's dating my best friend. She can't waltz back into my life and take my best friend away from me. He's my friend. She can't expect me to let her in so easily." He said. I was taken back by his outburst.
"I know it's not my place to ask, but what happened with her?" I asked. It was a question I had been dying to ask Sophie and him. I wanted to know why she was forced to move away from her father and twin.
"Here we are. The cheeseburger and the tenders." Hannah interrupted. She placed our meals on the table before smiling at us. "Anything else I can get?"
"We great. Thank you." Blake said. His smile was back on his face. Any traces of anger were gone. Well there goes my chance of finding out my dying question.
"So you said your friend Krissy works here?" I asked. I wanted to know why he was so interested in my life. I thought he only wanted to know the Kate part.
"Yeah. She's this girl in my Spanish class. We were paired up for a project and she mentioned she worked here." Blake said. He stuffed a few fries in his mouth before taking a bite of the burger.
"You take Spanish?" I asked. I dipped my chicken into the ranch before taking a bite.
"Yeah. It was either that or I fail senior year." He said nonchalantly. I widened my eyes, almost choking on my food. I grabbed my drink and washed it down.
So that's why he got changed into my class. He was probably missing his foreign language credit like I was. Maybe fate did bring us together.
"I think i'd choose Spanish too. I can't wait to go to college." I said. Blake's eyes widened before letting out a chuckle.
"Right. You wanna go to some big school right?" He asked. I nodded.
"Harvard Law." I said proudly. I found out a couple of weeks ago that I had been accepted. I got a small scholarship that will help pay for school but not enough to quit working.
No matter what happens, I am going to continue to chase my dream. I'm here to become the best lawyer out there. I will work hard and achieve greatness.
"I wish I had a future like yours." Blake said. I frowned. He could if he wanted too. But all he's ever focused on has been being the best bad boy out there. He sleeps with girls and doesn't care about the consequences.
"You could if you want. I could help you apply to community colleges to help you get started." I encouraged him. He gave me a half smile before shaking his head.
"I want to get out of the town that destroyed my family." He said. He looked down at his burger. Silence surrounded us. I wasn't sure what to say. I have never been in the same situation as him. I'm lucky to have two parents that love me and love each other. I don't know what I would do if my parents ever separated.
"Sorry to interrupt, but would you guys want to order dessert?" Hannah said coming up to us. I was grateful for the interruption. Blake seemed to snap out of his little bubble and nodded.
"Can we each get a slice of chocolate cake?" Blake asked. Hannah nodded enthusiastically. She knew chocolate cake was my favorite. I wonder how Blake knew that.
"Coming right up." Hannah said bouncing off.
"Chocolate cake is my favorite dessert." I told him. His eyes widened before his mouth turned into a smirk.
"We're meant to be." He joked. I rolled my eyes, yet that one sentence seemed to make my heart turn to mush. If only it were true.
-
"This was fun." Blake said when we reached his house. I smiled. It was fun. Yet, it can't happen again.
I reached for the door handle to open the door. Blake's hand found its way around my wrist, prohibiting me from opening the door. The sudden touch sent waves of shock throughout my body. I turned towards the blond haired boy, seeing a nervous smile on his face.
"It was." I said. He looked into my eyes, making my heart flip within my chest. I found myself moving closer to him, shifting in my seat. His eyes flickered down to my lips, making the butterflies in my belly start to flutter. I knew what that look meant. He wanted to kiss me and I found myself wanting to kiss him too.
