Chapter 7: The Twin
Send It To My Phone
Krissy's Point of View
I slammed my locker shut. I was ready to go home. I had a long day ahead of me. I was yearning for my hour nap before work. But I knew better than to take one.
I looked around for Blake. I was practically the only one in the hallway so I didn't want to get caught. I saw a few people walk towards the exit and followed them.
It had been two weeks since the party. Two long weeks of hiding and ignoring. He has been nonstop messaging me, urging me to hangout. I have ignored every message. I'm not ready to see him. I don't know if i'll ever be ready.
He called me once. I flipped out when I saw his name pop up. I was in the middle of studying when my phone started to vibrate uncontrollably. My heart stopped when I saw that it was him. I wanted to answer but I knew I shouldn't. Nothing good can come from him. I needed to forget the bad boy. If only he could forget about me.
"Krissy!" I heard Morgan call from behind me. She was sashaying her way over to me in a pair of skinny jeans and a pink sweater. She was wearing thigh high black boots with her hair in waves. Even in the winter she looked amazing.
I, on the other hand, did not. I was wearing a pair of old blue jeans and a black hoodie. My hair was in a low ponytail with my thick glasses on my face.
"Hey Morgan." I said to her. I unlocked my car and tossed my backpack into the backseat. I had about 40 minutes to relax before my shift at the diner. I wanted to enjoy every second possible.
"How are you holding up?" She asked. I looked at her, waiting for an explanation. What is she speculating? Why would I be sad?
"What are you talking about?" I asked. I looked around the parking lot and saw almost everyone was now gone. The only ones left were those who had sports practice. I'm pretty sure Morgan was one of them. Why wasn't she there? Wouldn't she get into trouble?
"The whole Kate-Blake thing." She whispered. I sighed. This is what she's talking about. The topic she has not dropped since the party.
"I'm fine. Now go to cheer practice." I said, not really feeling fine. I started my car, sitting in the driver's seat. I cranked the heat up. It would start to snow soon. Thanks Connecticut weather.
"I'm here you know." She said. I nodded. I knew she was. She was always here for me. Except this time, I think she needed to leave the boy alone.
"I know M. I'll see you later." I said shutting my door. She nodded with a small smile. I watched her walk back into the school. She was probably going to run to the locker room.
I then pulled out of my parking spot. I was to be at work in less than an hour, maybe 30 minutes now. I turned the radio on and enjoyed the current song.
Blake has not noticed me. I felt relief, yet sadness. I know i'm not supposed to want the bad boy in my life, but something in me did. Ever since we hung out, I couldn't stop thinking about him. He seemed genuine and caring, yet I knew he was still the notorious bad boy.
I wanted the bad boy to notice me, for me. I wanted to be the one to change him. Yet, I know that's not possible. He'll never be interested in a nerd like me.
-
I dropped the plates in the sink, ready to get another order in. Hannah was helping me clean the tables. We were short a person today. One of the waiters was off looking at colleges.
"Hello! Sorry to interrupt, but is your manager here?" A short brunette asked. She had a smile on her face. Her hazel eyes twinkling with anticipation.
"She is. What can I do for your?" Sandy came up behind Hannah and I. I swear she's like a ninja; always there, yet never seen.
"Hi, i'm Sophie. I was wondering if you were hiring. I'm new to town." She said with hope evident in her eyes.
"We actually are sweetheart. If you want, you can start by helping these girls bust tables. We'll talk later about the exact position." Sandy said to her.
"Thank you so much." Sophie said with a grin.
"I'm Hannah and this is Krissy. Nice to meet you." Hannah said shaking her hand.
"You too. You are insanely gorgeous." Sophie complimented Hannah.
"Thank you. I'll show you were to leave your stuff." Hannah said to her. She nodded before following Hannah into the backroom.
I wiped the counter down and looked up when I heard the little bell above the door ring. It was Morgan. She looked exhausted yet still full of energy. She was dressed in leggings and a sweater, sporting her sweaty ponytail.
"Hi Kris." She said sitting down on the barstool. I smiled.
"Root beer?" I asked her. She nodded enthusiastically.
"Any updates?" She asked. I stopped and stared. Is she serious? This topic again. She shrugged. I sighed before shaking my head.
"I'm done Morg. I can't keep being two people. It's not worth it. Especially for a guy who would not like the real me. I can't keep being Kate." I said to her. I wanted to be the girl of his dreams, but I can't. That's just not me. I won't change for him and i'm pretty sure he won't change for me. He wouldn't even like me.
"Krissy. Your turn with Soph." Hannah said passing by me. I turned and saw Sophie standing near the coffee maker. She looked nervous. She had a grey apron around her small waist.
"Sophie, I want you to meet my best friend Morgan." I introduced them.
"Hi. Nice to meet you. Are you new?" Morgan asked. Sophie nodded, a smile warming up her face.
"Nice to meet you too. And yeah! I just moved here. I was actually living with my mom and came to live with my dad. It's a lot different here than where I used to live, but I like it." Sophie said.
"You're going to the high school in town right?" Morgan asked. Sophie nodded. "You have to hangout with us then. You'll know everything there needs to know about Hartford. Especially which boys to date."
"Thanks, but I have my eye on one specifically." Sophie blushed.
"Wait, who? I can tell you if he's available." Morgan said. I could see the excitement light up in her eyes. She loved playing matchmaker. Her number one goal was to get Blake and I together. Which is not going to happen. She took a sip of her root beer as Sophie began to reply.
"His name is Asher Stone." Sophie blushed causing Morgan to spit her drink everywhere. I grabbed a towel and began to clean up her mess. I would like to say that was the first time she does that, but it isn't.
"How do you know Asher?" Morgan asked, totally ignoring the mess she just made. I walked away with the rag, not bothering to hear. I wanted to stay as far as possible from Asher, considering he's Blake's best friend. I wonder how Sophie new him since she's new in town.
I ignored my thoughts when I saw them both walk in. I ducked behind the counter, hoping to not be seen. Guess fate is not on my side today.
"Hey gorgeous. Why are you hiding?" The deep, attractive voice asked. I sighed and stood up. I fixed my apron and plastered my best fake smile.
"What can I get for you today?" I asked them, ignoring his compliment.
"Your number." Blake smirked. It's how he starts every single conversation with me. I rolled my eyes and turned to Asher.
"Cheeseburger and fries with a coke please. Oh, and excuse the douchebag." Asher said smacking the back of Blake's head. I chuckled, earning a glare from Blake. I grinned. He then began to smirk at me, causing my smile to slide off my face.
"I see what makes you smile." He smirks. I scoff.
"It definitely isn't you." I said walking away to put Asher's order in. I pass by the storage room and see Sophie freaking out. "Are you okay?"
"Huh? Oh, yeah. Sorry. I just wasn't expecting to see Asher. That's all." She said. She stood up and did a little shake. "Okay, i'm ready."
"For?" I asked her.
"To tell my brother i'n working here." She said. I raised an eyebrow. What is she talking about? "You didn't hear my conversation with Morgan?"
"No, was I supposed to?" I asked her. She looked at me and smirked. Now I was really confused.
"No. Come on." She said pulling me out of the room. She walked towards the bathroom, leaving me dumbfounded. What was she talking about?
"Order up!" The cook shouted. I erased my previous thoughts and grabbed Asher's burger. I also filled up a cup with coke and took it to their booth. I set it in front of Asher, earning a smile from him. I turned to look at the other dimwit and saw a frown.
"Where's my food?" He asked. I chuckled.
"Where my number is." I said walking away.
"Dude, I love her." Asher laughed. I smiled, feeling victorious. Krissy 1, Blake 0.
"Kris!" I heard Blake say from behind me. I sighed and began to walk back. What does he want?
"Why do you remember my name?" I asked.
"I don't forget the name of a gorgeous girl. Can I please have a cheeseburger with fries?" He said. I nodded and went to put the order in.
"Does Blake like you?" Sophie asked when I reached the counter. I gave her a quizzical look.
"You know who Blake is?" I asked her. She shrugged, not meeting my questioning gaze.
"Morgan told me." She said biting her lip. I nodded. Seems like her. She also probably informed her that he's the love of my life and we're going to get married. "She said you like him."
"What?" I said dropping the cup full of Blake's drink. I knew he liked coke. He orders it every time he's here. And every time he asks for my number. Why? I don't know.
"So you do." She smirked. I shook my head.
"No. I can't." I said refilling it, not bothering to answer her question. I looked over her shoulder and saw that his order was ready so I grabbed the plate and the drink. I set them in front of him.
"Remembered my order?" He smirked. I rolled my eyes.
"Don't flatter yourself hotshot. You come in here way too often, never leaving me alone." I said leaving.
"She has it bad dude." Blake said behind me. I shook my head. If only he knew.
"Dude, what happened to you finding the one?" Asher asked. I continued to walk, hoping to hear Blake's answer but I was out of earshot. I stood behind the counter and saw Blake shrug.
"Stop staring." Sophie said. I jumped at the sound of her voice. "Sorry."
"It's fine. And I wasn't staring. He doesn't even know I exist." I told her. I walked into the backroom with her in tow. "Where's Morg?" I asked.
"She had to leave. Something about cheer. Now explain to me this whole situation." Sophie said. I sighed. I barely met this girl a couple of hours ago and she was already into everything in my life, not that anything interesting was happening. But, I could feel the friendship that was forming. It couldn't hurt to tell her about my so called love life, or the lack of.
"Tomorrow after the football game, you, me and Morgan, sleepover and i'll fill you in on everything. For now, I need to go endure the dimwit." I said. She nodded, a smile breaking out onto her face. I walked back out and saw that they had finished their food.
"This was delicious. Thank you." Asher said. I smiled at him. He handed me some cash. "Keep the change. It's an apology for this dickhead. I promise he isn't that bad."
"I am not a dick." Blake glared. I started laughing causing him to smirk.
"That'll be $12.34." I told him, ignoring his dimples. He handed me his platinum card. I took it and walked towards the register. I swiped his card and printed his receipt. I looked up and saw his best friend walking up.
"I'm sorry about him. He's a dick. He's been through a lot in life and his actions show it. Give him sometime, he'll come around." Asher said. I smiled.
"As long as he keeps paying, I don't care." I said to him. He chuckled, but stopped and stared. I turned slightly and followed his eyes. He was staring at Sophie.
"Hey Asher." She said shyly. She did a small wave.
"I'll be over there." I said. Sophie blushed and Asher smiled. Hmm. Guess they do know each other. I walked towards Blake's table and saw him engrossed in his phone.
"Is your number on that?" He asked not looking up.
"How did you know it was me and not Asher?" I asked him. That caused him to look up.
"How do you know Asher's name?" He asked. I felt the blood rush to my cheeks. Crap. "You go to my school don't you."
"Um." I stuttered. Do I tell him the truth or continue the lie? The latter seemed like a better choice, but the truth is bound to come out sometime.
"You're the nerd that hangs out with Morgan aren't you." He said. I opened and closed my mouth like a fish, not sure what to say. "Cat got your tongue Kris?"
"How did you know?" I asked, finally giving in. I might as well tell him now.
"I know everything." He smirked.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Blake's Point of View
I started my bike, feeling the engine roar to life. Asher was in his truck next to me. He rolled down the window and turned towards me.
"Your house?" He asked. I nodded.
"Yeah. My sister needs help moving in." I told him, sighing. My sister has been in town for a couple of hours and I haven't seen her yet. I don't really remember what she looks like considering I haven't seen her a few years. She's always changing her hair and style. For all I know, she could have flaming red hair and tattoos all up her arms.
I backed out of my parking spot and began the drive home to the Tyler mansion. I smirked, remembering what happened a few minutes ago. I was scrolling through twitter when I saw Krissy's figure come into view. I didn't bother to look up. I knew it was her.
"Is your number on that?" I asked her. I saw a tweet about some party tomorrow after the game and retweeted it. I was always going to be at a party. It's where I meet all my hook ups. Especially the good ones.
Except lately, I haven't been in the mood for any. I flirt with the girls at school, but I just don't feel like sleeping with them. Which is weird since I usually sleep with two girls a day.
"How did you know it was me and not Asher?" She asked me. I looked up. How does she know Asher?
"How do you know Asher's name?" I asked. Her cheeks turned a bright shade of red. She has to go to our school. No one knows Asher unless they know me. She claims she has never met me, so she can't know him. The only other logical explanation would be that she goes to the same school as us. "You go to my school don't you." I asked her. She stared at me, not knowing what to say.
"Um." She stuttered. She looked to be having a mental battle of whether to tell me the truth or keep her lie. I studied her features. Her thick rimmed glasses outlining her brown eyes looked vaguely familiar. Her baggy clothes and old jeans also seemed familiar. I've seen them somewhere, I just don't know where.
"You're the nerd that hangs out with Morgan aren't you." I said remembering Adrianna talk about her before. She always asks why Morgan would rather sit with her than the rest of the cheer squad. I usually tune her voice out afterwards. But this would make sense. She has to be Morgan's friend. I've seen Morgan hang around here a couple of times. She has to be that nerd.
She continued to open and close her mouth like a fish, not sure what to say. "Cat got your tongue Kris?" I asked her. She sighed, meaning the battle ended. I watched her face droop down. I slightly frowned.
"How did you know?" She asked, finally giving in. I smirked, feeling the corners of my lips raise. So it was her. I knew it.
"I know everything." I told her. She sighed in defeat before walking away. She never came back, only Asher. I frowned. He had a huge grin on his face. From what? I don't know. I didn't ever remember him leaving the table. Why is he so happy? What happened while I talked to the nerd?
"Let's go man." He said. I nodded, signing the piece of paper Krissy had left. I grabbed my phone and walked out of the diner with him. We decided to come to my house to hangout.
We'd probably just bring a few of my sister's things in and then watch football or play video games. He'd probably only stay for a couple of hours before i'd get some random girl's text. I just hoped I was in the mood for whatever girl was it for the night. I need to step up my game. I'm losing my way.
I parked my bike in the driveway, hearing Asher's truck shut off too. I then heard another car shut off, hearing a slam. Asher walked over to me before I looked back and saw a silver Mustang park next to Asher.
The door opened, revealing brown hair with caramel highlights glistening in the winter sun. The petite girl walked around her car and smirked at me. I recognized the smirk.
It was a replica of mine.
She took her shades off revealing hazel eyes. Eyes I haven't seen in months. Eyes I thought i'd never see again.
"Hey twin brother." My twin sister Sophie said.
