The Final Boss' Wife - Special
Villainess Reform Project
[ This is my lovely surprise for you all that I've been working on! Did any of you guess right? I've found that this is my favorite AU just because of how domestic it can be, but also because of the morbid jokes that could be made. It's just wonderful. I decided to have it come out a bit earlier. Enjoy~ ]
I have learned many things from the time I was once just a simple village girl living a quiet life. I had learned even more when that quiet life was taken away from me by that so-called 'righteous' Church and their golden child.
1.) The good guys are not always as good as they seem.
2.) Making deals with spirits is very profitable, if you do it correctly.
and 3.) Humans are fucking persistent.
The #3 is extremely important for the current situation I happen to be at the moment. Ever since I had entered this castle under the Dark Lady in order to repay her kindness, having saved my life and all as my village burned to ashes. However, I never thought that it would cause such a ruckus among the human population.
Believing I had been kidnapped. How could they get anymore stupid before being considered a new species of human?
Some idiot humans who called themselves adventurers or heroes or something had broken into the castle again, right after the poor dwarves fixed the gates again. I'd have to make something good and hardy for dinner to lift their spirits. I wonder if they'd like a roast. If they ask for beer or ale I'll have to limit their intake a bit. When I start giving alcohol to the residents of this castle it's hard to get them to stop.
I was sitting nowhere near the 'heroes' who had entered the castle, but I could see and hear them due to a magic device known as a Crystal Ball. It was a surveillance item that was only granted to high-ranking members of the hierarchy, which I could be considered somewhat. To be the Dark Lady's right-hand, be known to the human world as the 'Demon of Wind', and hold an extra reputable title in the castle would surely make me a high-ranker. Although a recently low-key one for various reasons. One of them being heroes seeking glory by rescuing a princess.
You heard that right. Apparently, idiots got the idea of the 'kidnapped' lady of the Dark Lady's castle being a beautiful princess from a far away land who needed to be rescued.
If they had this much imagination they should've been authors instead of adventurers.
"You evil beings! We beseech you to return the princess immediately!" A young man, most likely a knight, had yelled into the foyer. His little group which held an archer, cleric, barbarian, and warlock was quickly being surrounded by our undead guards. Personally trained by me, if I do say so myself.
The Undead Captain, who I had named Charles after the Dark Lady created him, only let out a roar of battle and the fighting began. I was so proud, seeing my carefully trained warriors go into battle without fear or hesitation. Is this what mothers felt like when they saw their children achieve something? I like to believe its somewhat like that.
Although, this battle was taking a bit too long. The Dark Lady would be coming home from conquering within the hour and most of the humans were still standing. I'm glad I made the suggestion of making the carpet red to mask the color of blood, but cleaning up the bones of any of the undead for reconstruction would take a bit. I stood up from my seat at the table with the Crystal Ball and prepared to go out.
"My Lady, please do not go out of the room! Her Majesty requested you stay put."
Oh. I almost forgot I had a maid. This maid's name was Rachael, a girl I had saved from the Church's clutches when she was being considered as a maid for the Church's golden child, Carole. She was a quiet girl, but she did her work well. It also helped that she was a human like me.
I rolled my eyes a bit. The Dark Lady always wanted me to stay put instead of doing 'dangerous' things. I fought an entire army of Church crusaders all by myself when I was half asleep! What could be considered dangerous for me?!
"I'll only be out for a little bit, Rachael. I'm just going to greet our esteemed guests." I approached the door to my room and was quickly blocked by Rachael.
"You really can't go out!"
"Rachael. Move."
"You can't leave!"
"Why. Not."
"... Because you're still in your nightgown."
I blinked at Rachael for a bit before looking down at my attire. Sure enough, I was still in my long nightgown in all its deep purple glory. It would've caused quite a stir if I went downstairs with my nightgown on and anyone saw.
I fear the Dark Lady might replace the staff if that happened. What I mean by replace wasn't just firing but killing those who had saw and replacing them after they died. Most likely after taking out their eyes.
I did not want a repeat of that.
With a sigh, I accepted defeat for the time being. "Then would you get an outfit for me? Preferably a black dress and a coat. Apparently it's a bit chilly today and we have yet to fix the door they destroyed."
Rachael let a smile of relief grace her features. "Of course, My Lady."
After a speedy wardrobe change and another peak at the Crystal Ball, the heroes were getting tired, I was walking down the hallway with Rachael trailing behind me like a tail. Although she didn't look it, the blonde girl had been trained extensively in combat to be my maid. Though she really didn't need to be, I was quite capable all on my own. Though it was good to have backup.
"Ah, how fun. We haven't had uninvited guests here in so long. I fear I've neglected my duties as a hostess." I couldn't help but giggle as I reached the stairs and leaned on the railing, a menacing grin on my features. With a wave of my hand, the constant assault upon the heroes was stopped as all the undead stood at attention. Charles, my favorite, even did a kneel.
I've trained such excellent warriors. A general can't help but feel proud.
"Now then," My grin couldn't help but grow wider. "could our esteemed guests tell this 'princess' the reason for their visit?"
The change in atmosphere was already obvious, some of the more magically sensitive members of the party letting a visible shiver go through their figures. I'm glad they've realized that they've been outclassed, feeling a bit of fear.
It's a bit sad to see that it won't be only idiots dying today.
That knight character from earlier was the first to speak, an obvious flush on his face either from exhaustion or my appearance. "W-we came here to save you, princess-"
"And you probably had fantasies of being rewarded with my hand in marriage or something, correct?"
"I... I"
"But we're not talking about you anymore. Although you came all the way here, I'll have to disappoint you. I, am no princess," I almost wanted to cackle at the look on the faces of all the heroes when I said that. "but I am very much married."
I showed my right hand to the pitiful group, the ring I was so fond of sitting proudly on my ring finger. It was made of a black metal I had yet to learn the name of with a beautiful yellow gemstone in the middle, intimately reminding me of the woman who had given it to me.
The despair on the faces of the heroes was quite enjoyable. "However, I will not allow your efforts to get here go to waste. You will be doing a very important job."
"You have the honor of joining our reputable army." With a smile on my face and a flick of my wrist, a burst of air came out of no where and a wonderful spill of blood occurred from the place where the heroes once stood. Sadly, some of it stained the walls of the foyer which would take a bit of scrubbing to remove but the carpet would only be a bit wet.
"Get to work cleaning up. Her Majesty, the Dark Lady should be arriving home soon and I want this place to look as if no one has entered."
"Yes, My Lady!"
It's convenient that the maids and butlers of this household are so efficient, making it so that managing this place is much easier when my wife is away.
It seems that I've failed to introduce myself properly. My name is Ava, formerly known as Marie. I am the Dark Lady's beloved wife and right-hand.
And I take my job very seriously when my wife isn't here.
When she is here, I have to take it even more seriously because it's like her brain shuts off all functions other than cling to Ava.
"Her Majesty, the Dark Lady, has arrived-"
"Ava!~"
I had reached the ground to properly greet my wife, but found myself being locked in a familiar tight hug. I could only smile and gently pat her head.
"Welcome home, Ophie."
"Why does it smell like blood?"
"Oh, the usual intruders. Nothing we couldn't handle."
I could hear the pout in her voice when she spoke again. "I should just finish this stupid war already so I can stay home with you."
"I don't think that'll fix the problem, Ophie."
She grumbled something against my shoulder before tipping her head towards me with a pitiful expression, which I've coined as Ophie's 'kiss away my problems' face. It's quite comical to see a woman who destroys entire armies and kills all that oppose her with a blank face act cute to get a kiss.
Isn't she adorable?
I couldn't help but relent and give her what she wanted. One peck on the lips and she was already full of energy again.
This is my simple daily life with my adorable wife who could be considered the final boss of the entire world. I wouldn't change it for anything.
