Chapter 16: You Would Be Sorry for This
Love After Marriage: Mr. Lancaster's Hidden Wife
The night in December was full of coldness. The wind covered up eyes
and the neon lights illuminate the city while the stars above couldnt be
seen. People were suppressed and uncomfortable because of such
heavy darkness.
Olive worn tightly a down-filled coat, keeping rubbing hands and ears
and moving back and forth. She wanted to warm herself up.
She expected to find somewhere to get warm. But there seemed no
such place in the prosperous city that ordinary people like she could
afford. Once she went far, she worried to miss that guy.
It had been more than two hours when Bruce came out with men and
women who apparently drank because two or three of them walked
unsteadily.
Olive abruptly stood before him and stopped him
Bruce slightly opened his eyes, said confusedly, âMiss Steele, why are
you here?â
Olive went straightly to the topic without hesitation, âMr. Lynn, sorry to
disturb you, but I want to talk with you privately.â
Hearing this, several men who stood beside smiled tacitly, looking at
Olive with disdain. The woman who carried Bruce glowered as if she
met a rival in love. Her voice was like nails scratching the glass.
âBruce, who is she?â
Finally, Olive saw that heroine of the affair who was younger than
eighteen. She looked as beautiful as Chloe. Besides, she had an extra
sense of youth.
Probably men preferred young girls. The wives they once loved now
became old and unattractive.
The girl who held Bruce's arm leaned so close against him, which
seemed to be unspeakable intimacy as well as ambiguity. She seemed
to declare the dominion before Olive.
Olive was dumbfounding. How could a mistress walk tall? What should
those decent wives do?
Those men were clever to plan to turn away. But Bruce said, âNo need, I
don't know much about Miss Steele, please directly talk with me here.â
Olive was silent for a while, âAre you sure?â
âJust say it.â Bruce lightly said with some disdain.
Actually, he always looked down upon poor friends of Chloe.
Hence, Olive needn't care about his feelings. She stood straightly
before him. Although her eyes were angry, she looked neither
overbearing nor servile as if she could see through Bruce.
âI know that as an outsider, I have no right to judge things between you
couple. It is just that you seem to forget your promise and not cherish
your marriage. Indeed, you are young and competent, rich and
generous, there are plenty of women actively pleasing you. In that case
you didnât care about the marriage, you shouldn't have married Chloe.
You speak out the divorce so easily that you hurt the woman who loves
you deeply without responsibility. I thought you are different from
other men. But you let me down. Chloe gets more disappointed. You
can divorce with her, you can also let your mother insult her and chase
her away. I will persuade her to live with me, I won't make her
homeless, but....."
Olive paused a second with the anger shooting through her chest. But
she tried to calm down and be reasonable, gradually holding her
trembling hands so tightly in the cold wind.
She was dying to punch his face and it was not enough for revenge to
punch him black and blue.
âBut there won't be a woman who love you purely. Perhaps, you get
used to affairs and disdain true love early. Maybe you regard it as
hypocrisy and think that Chloe pursues the rich life in the name of love.
If so, I have nothing to say. Due to the way you trample her heart, you
won't gain another heart that is sincerer than hers. You don't deserve
her at all. It will be your lifetime loss to lose her. Goodbye.â
