Twenty-Six-Some days you should just stay in bed

With the hunters eliminated and Beaumont unaware of it, the battle is already sliding in Rafe’s favor. The main body of the troops marching their way towards them was still about an hour out. They had their snipers placed to their rear and archers on the frontline of the border.

Jax was sitting on the ground watching the drone footage and Andrea sat down beside him. She was bored. She didn’t do waiting well. She decided she needed something to do.. so she melted the snow around her and Jax and warmed the earth. Then she put her fingertips in the soil and felt seedlings sprout.

Soon they were surrounded with daisies daffodils and snap dragons. “Baby, what are you doing” she jumped and squeaked. Jax looked around and said “what the fuck” She grinned and shrugged. Rafe sat down and pulled her onto his lap and wrapping her up. She was out in a second..snoring softly. Jax said “tired?” Rafe nodded.

Jax asked “How did you know?” Rafe replied “she went small and drove the hunters insane” he shrugs “it always wears her out … when she wakes she will eat a cupcake and life will be rosy again “

Jax laughed and shook his head. Damon walked up and sat down. He looked at the flowers and asked “got bored?” Rafe nodded. He loved that his brothers love and understand his little pixie. Jax looked up at Rafe and said 15 minutes.

He woke Andrea and sent her with Gavin to the western border and he moved closer to the northern side. When the shields go up, they would leave about a 15 feet wide gap. In theory, the enemy should bottleneck down and only be able to rush the line 5 at a time. Like shooting fish in a barrel.

Andrea was whining. Gavin gave her a cupcake. They stood watching. They could hear the sounds of paws hitting the frozen ground and feel the vibrations of boots trudging through the snow. She kept asking Gavin “do you see anything?” He shakes his head. 5 minutes later “anything yet?” He shakes his head.. the third time she asked he swooped down and put her on his shoulders. Rafe noticed and laughed linking him asking “Too many see anything yet’s?” Gavin said “Fuck yeah! This girl don’t know patience “ and Rafe laughed again. She patted Gavin’s head saying I see them. I see them now and pointing. Gavin said “you do realize they aren’t coming over for Sunday tea, right? They are coming to bleed on us.” She laughed!

As soon as the first wolves came into view, Rafe stepped right out into the open.. He yelled “Stop right there. I don’t know what you have been promised. I don’t know what you have been paid. What I do know is…. If you cross my borders, you will die.

Unequivocally..with no hesitation, you will fall where you stand. Standing before you right now..I am offering you your life to walk away. Run away..You have been lied to. You have been conned into a losing battle by two power hungry small time Alphas. I would like to introduce myself…I am known as the BlackAlpha. My pack of warriors is 900 soldiers strong! They are veteran fighters and have seen many wars. Again, if you cross…you will die.” Rafe looked around at his warriors and said “they were warned”

Jax said “Alpha..about 40 wolves are running full bore back south.” Rafe said “Shit! We weeded out the smart ones” And with that, wolves began charging. Jax looked at Damon and handed him the trigger. He said “let the first line of 5 pass then trip the first trigger..then another line of five..trip the trigger..and so on.” Damon just nods watching the line.

The first five to cross the border were cut down by the archers. The second line were set up to charge the border running full bore and Damon tripped the trigger. The second line were decapitated by the steel cable drawn taut between the trees. That caused the next line to stumble to a halt. Jax walked over to Damon and said “that worked better than I thought “ and they high fived. Rafe shouted having second thoughts?

And Beaumont stepped out being sure to keep to keep wolves in front of him. Andrea said fucking coward! Beaumont spoke “Are you prepared to release my son? Are you handing over the girl?” Rafe looked around.. he said is he for real? Rafe answered back… He said “Are you prepared to die? In what universe do you believe you have the upper hand?”

Beaumont ordered the charge and the same thing happened…only this time all five were decapitated. Andrea noticed about 20 wolves creeping towards the eastern border and she whispered “Gavin, watch.” And he turned to see twenty running at full speed to leap the border and alammed straight into the shield knocking three of them completely out.

Andrea linked the snipers to take them out on their next charge. And sure enough…they backed up to get a little more speed and charged the border again. The snipers pulled up, aimed and fired at the wolves in mid leap. Two of them died in the air and slammed into the shield and slid down it. The four survivors ran around to the north to test that border.

Now the enemy was down to about 200 fighters and not one of PineCrest had so much as a torn cuticle. Rafe stepped into the clearing again and yelled “This is ridiculous! This is a slaughter. BLACKRIVER PACK! I am offering you a one time deal.. You see.. I have a limited alliance with Liam Beaumont. When I kill Isaac, Liam will ascend and he will be the new Alpha. I told him if he orders a stand down of BlackRiver warriors.. he was allowed to go home and rebuild. But there are only 50 warriors left without you! What kind of Alpha leaves his pack alone and vulnerable for a solid month? How many of you could’ve lost your mates if I had not arranged for one of my allies to protect that pack..your pack! Go home. Don’t die here for a defunct Alpha who has no valid reason to attack this pack.”

Beaumont looked at the trees and screamed “Kill him NOWWWW!” And Rafe said “ who the fuck you talking to? The trees?” Beaumont roared with laughter and said “The jokes on you..there are human hunters in these trees!” And it was Rafe’s turn to laugh.. “Oh! Those humans? They were all dead and gone an hour before you even arrived. Checkmate Bitch! Sometimes, it don’t pay to get out of bed.”

Beaumont shifted into his big brown wolf and charged the line. Rafe held up his hand, indicating this is his kill. The wolf broke the line and leaped at Rafe. He didn’t even shift. Just caught the wolf by the throat mid-leap and slammed him to the ground and said “you really are one stupid motherfucker!” And ripped the wolf’s throat out.

In the cells Liam grabbed his chest and hit his knees. Two lone tears fell down each cheek and he linked his warriors. “This is your Alpha Liam Beaumont and I order you to stand down!” Robert linked Rafe and said it’s done. And Rafe linked back, “get them to the airport!”
