Chapter 1657 Alzheimer
You Hit My Heart
Chapter 1657 Alzheimer
After she finished speaking, Joyce proactively picked up food for him.
"Eat more, you look a bit tired."
Luther saw Joyce's affectionate behavior towards him in front of Darrin,
and his expression softened.
âYou should eat more too. There are my two sons in your belly," he
looked up and glanced at Darrin.
"You know about Joyce's pregnancy, right? She's carrying three people
now. I entrust her safety to you in the future.â
Darrin immediately stood up. "Please rest assured, Mr. Warner. Darrin
will go through fire and water without hesitation."
"Alright, sit down and eat. This is a home, not a military camp.â Joyce
rubbed her forehead, feeling speechless.
"Are you going to Mufron tomorrow? Is Darrin going too?" Joyce
suddenly asked, thinking of this matter. Darrin had just arrived, and it
didn't feel right to leave him behind. But if he came along, more people
would know about Iris.
She was a bit conflicted.
"We can.â Luther nodded and agreed.
"By the way, about Iris. I told my mom because of the grave relocation,
she will eventually find out." Luther said.
"Mm." Joyce nodded. This time returning to Khebury, she hadn't seen
Jacqueline yet.
They had only briefly met last time.
The past was in the past, and she didn't want to dwell on it anymore.
Since they were moving the grave back to the Warner family plot, it was
only right to inform Jacqueline.
After dinner.
Unexpectedly, Jacqueline came to the Warner residence. Shelly also
came, bringing her new boyfriend along. It seemed that they had met
while abroad, and he was tall with striking blond hair.
Shelly introduced, "Brother, sister-in-law, this is my husband, Huffman.
He's from St. Denis.â
"Hello, everyone. Nice to meet you all." Huffman greeted everyone
warmly.
Joyce looked at Luther in surprise. Husband? Shelly had actually
gotten married. Last time she came back, she had heard that he was
her boyfriend.
"Oh, they got married and obtained their marriage license in St. Denis.
They had a simple but meaningful ceremony in a foreign church.â
Luther explained.
Jacqueline said, "Yes, Xiaoxiao and Huffman are going to settle in St.
Denis soon, so we won't see each other often.â She seemed a bit
down, filled with emotion.
Approaching them, Jacqueline held Joyce's hands. "Joyce, it's been so
many years since I last saw you. You've worked hard all these years.
Ah, it's Andres, he's grown so big. He's so cute.â
As she spoke, she freed up one hand and gently touched Anderson's
head.
Joyce and Anderson exchanged a glance, both with a hint of confusion
in their eyes.
Jacqueline's demeanor seemed as if she didn't remember their last
visit?
It hadn't been that long. How could she forget?
âLet's all sit down." Luther also noticed that something was off. "Mom,
go tell Mr. Arnold to bring the tea leaves I brought back a few days
ago."
"Oh, alright.â Jacqueline turned and left.
After Jacqueline left, Luther asked Shelly, âWhat's going on? Does she
not remember the last time Joyce and Anderson visited?"
Shelly nodded.
âYes, for some time now, actually quite a while, I just didn't notice it
before. I realized that Mom often forgets things. She would say she
didn't eat even though she had finished her meal. She would buy things
she had already bought before. She often forgets this and that. Later, I
took her for a check-up last week."
Shelly sighed. "The doctor said she has Alzheimer's disease, and it's
progressing rapidly. Right now, she can't remember recent events, and
soon she won't even remember the past. Eventually, she will lose her
ability to speak and won't recognize any of us."
Joyce furrowed her brow. She knew about Alzheimer's disease, a
cognitive disorder caused by progressive degeneration of the nervous
system. Some people progress rapidly. She didn't expect Jacqueline to
have this disease.
"There isn't a good treatment for this disease worldwide." Luther
frowned. "We can only provide good care, focus on regular exercise
and cognitive training to slow down its progression. Did the doctor say
how long it will be until she completely forgets us?"
âIt varies from person to person. It could be three to five years, or
maybe two to three years," Shelly's face was filled with sadness. She
was raised by Jacqueline, so she had a much deeper emotional
connection with her than Luther did. Luther was raised by Stephanie,
and he was never close to Jacqueline.
"Don't worry, we plan to take Mom with us to St. Denis for treatment.
Our country has the best rehabilitation center for Alzheimer's
diseaseright at the foot of the snowy mountains. It has beautiful
scenery and a pleasant climate.â Huffman spoke up at this moment.
"Yes, brother, we plan to settle there," Shelly held onto Huffman, her
face radiating happiness.
âBrother, I'll take care of Mom, so you don't have to worry. You take
care of sister-in-law. We heard about Iris, it's really unfortunate. Sister-
in-law is pregnant with twins again, so you must take good care of her.â
After Shelly finished speaking, she held Joyce's hands tightly.
The past grievances seemed to disappear in this moment.
Joyce felt relieved. Jacqueline would eventually forget everything, and
Shelly was settling abroad. The past no longer mattered.
While they were talking, Jacqueline walked over with freshly brewed
tea.
The family chatted as if nothing had happened for a while.
It was getting late, and Shelly, Huffman, and Jacqueline left first.
When they reached the door and Jacqueline got into the car, Shelly
said to Joyce, "Sister-in-law, we won't go with you to move lIris's grave.
I'm afraid it will make Mom sad and upset. After she found out about
Iris, she cried all night. She bears a great responsibility for this, and
deep down, she knows it. Although she will forget in the future, this pain
will always remain."
âIt's okay, you don't have to come." Joyce understood.
âIn the past, I was the one who wronged you." Shelly sighed. "I know I
can't make up for it, but I just hope that you can be happy in the future.â
Joyce gently patted Shelly's shoulder. âI've long let go. Otherwise, I
wouldn't have come back to this family. The bad people have received
their deserved punishment. We don't need to say such things anymore,
and we don't need to bring up the past. Seeing you change, I feel
relieved. Huffman is a good person, cherish him."
âYeah, he treats me well. I will. Goodbye."
Shelly waved goodbye to Joyce, Luther, and Anderson, then got into
the car and left the Warner residence.
Luther held Joyce's shoulder. âIt's getting late. Let's rest early tonight.
We have to get up early tomorrow for the flight.â
Anderson held onto Luther's clothes. "Did Grandma really get
Alzheimer's disease? I know that there's no cure for that disease.â
Luther gently ruffled Anderson's hair. "Yes, people grow old and get
sick. That's why, when we're together, we should cherish each other
and treasure our time."
"Yeah." Anderson nodded solemnly.
