The Ex-Husband's Revenge
The Ex-Husbandâs Revenge By Dragonsky Chapter 35 âThat wasnât what happened. Mister Conrad was the one who made advances on his subordinateâ¦â
Leon had a bitter look on his face as he retold the story, but he remained incredibly uneasy because it would be difficult to win Irisâs trust if Lily were to side with Joseph.
âThat is outright slander, Miss Young! Miss Cameron and I were discussing work at that time. She can vouch for meâ¦â Joseph rushed to defend himself.
âIs Mister Conrad telling the truth, Miss Cameron?â
Iris gestured for Lily to come up to her.
âYesâ¦â
Lily lowered her head. She was afraid to make eye contact with Iris, and most of all, Leon.
âDo you have anything else to say, Leon?â Iris looked calmly at Leon.
âI⦠No.â
Leon sighed. He felt despair that was beyond words.
Iris was both pissed and amused that Leon drooped his head like a defeated rooster.
The difference between herself and Ariel was that she understood Leonâs character better.
Leon might not have any talent or ability, but he had a morally honest character. As someone who was steadfast in his convictions and brave enough to accept responsibility, he would never stoop so low as to become a deceitful and petty person.
Even though Lily vouched for Joseph, Iris still believed Leon more.
Such was her trust in Leon!
âRaise your head, Miss Cameron!â
Iris turned to Lily.
Lily did not dare to disobey her and immediately looked up to meet Irisâs gaze.
âLook into my eyes! Iâll give you one last chance to answer. Whoâs telling the truth? Is it Leon or Mister Conrad?â
â
Iris directed her sharp gaze right at Lilyâs eyes, and that- along with her ever â dignified imposingness -
left Lily feeling heavily pressured.
âItâs Jo-â
Lily opened her mouth to answer and insisted on repeating her previous answer. However, Irisâs gaze was so sharp that it made Lily feel guilty to continue the rest of her answer.
Josephâs heart skipped a beat and he had a vague bad feeling. Leon already admitted that there was nothing more to say, which made it all the more confusing as to why Iris continued to ask that question.
âMiss Young, Leon has already admitted that heââ Joseph hurriedly interrupted.
âShut up! Iâm asking Miss Cameron. Not you!â Iris lambasted.
Joseph trembled uncontrollably and did not dare to talk any more.
âYou need to be able to live with your conscience, Miss Cameron! Now touch your heart and tell me the truth!â
Iris looked at Lily coldly and her domineeringly cold aura was even more oppressive.
âIâ¦â
Lily touched her heart with one hand. She was already very guilty to begin with, so as soon as she felt the beating of her heart through the palm of her hand, her fragile mental fortitude collapsed in an instant!
âIâm sorry, Miss Young. I lied⦠It was Mister Conrad who abused his power to bully me, and Mister Wolf was the one who saved me. The only reason I helped Mister Conrad accuse Mister Wolf was because I was afraid of losing my jobâ¦â
Lily knelt in front of Iris with a thud. Tears soon began gushing out like a broken dam and she almost lost her breath in between sobs. It was truly a sad and pitiful sight.
âSo, you two worked together to falsely accuse Leon!â
Ariel was dumbfounded. She believed Josephâs lies and even thought that Leon was the bad guy here.
Reality gave Ariel a tight slap on her face though, because that old man was actually stringing her along the entire time! She was a little peeved as a result because that whole incident simply reinforced everyoneâs idea of her as a bimbo.
