Chapter 53

Running Into You

They entered the room and saw Olivia sitting at a metal table, wearing handcuffs and an orange jumpsuit. Maggie was shocked. Gone was the golden skin, sparkling brown eyes, and blonde hair.

Olivia has a sickly, almost pasty look to her skin and dark blue circles under her eyes. Her hair was straggly and thin.

The two sat across from Olivia and Makayla smiled weakly at her, not knowing what to say. They all just stared at each other for a few minutes, remembering the good times they had growing up.

“I guess I will break the ice first. How are you both doing?” Olivia asked timidly.

“We’re okay, Liv. How are you doing? Brett and Liam told us you are having some complications with your pregnancy,” Makayla asked, unsure of what else to say.

“Yeah, um…I have gestational diabetes and it’s severe. The doctor thinks that I will end up with full-blown diabetes after I deliver… It’s really tough on my body, but I have to keep fighting for him. This will be the only child I have. They are advising me to not have any more children. It’s too dangerous.”

“Wow…sorry about that, Liv…,” Makayla said, shaking her head.

“Why, Liv?” Maggie blurted out. She had to know. Liv flinched at hearing her words.

“I don’t know Mags…I fell in love with Jason… We never meant for it to happen…”

“Then why didn’t you just tell me? Why did you both set me up to find you the way I did? Did you want to hurt me?”

Liv sighed. “I don’t have an answer. My mom has asked me several times, and I just don’t know. I don’t have an answer—”

“That’s bullshit. Liv and you know it!” Maggie hissed at her, tired of the game already.

Makayla took her hand and rubbed it, trying to calm her down.

“You’re right! Fine! I was jealous of you, okay? You and Mak had great jobs, and things were going your way! I felt left out and like I wasn’t going anywhere!

“And when you started dating Jason, I was resentful! I wanted something great and someone great—”

“So you thought that taking your best friend’s boyfriend was a good answer?” Makayla growled.

Maggie couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “When did it start?”

“Why do you want to know? What difference does it make at this point?” Olivia huffed.

“Don’t you think that you owe me at least that much?” Maggie all but yelled back at her.

Olivia sighed. “Remember when you and Mak went on that weekend conference?”

The two friends thought a minute while looking at each other, and then it hit Maggie.

“You don’t mean the conference before Halloween?” she asked in disbelief.

“Yeah, that’s the one,” Olivia replied.

Maggie sat for a minute looking at the blonde in front of her, unconcerned about how she came across to her friends.

“You mean to tell me that you started sleeping with my boyfriend two months after we got together? That you had been fucking him for over three months by the time I caught you?” Maggie demanded.

Olivia was silent for a few moments before she finally spoke up.

“Yeah, I was sleeping with Jason for a few months, and when I didn’t want to share him anymore, I made sure to plan it so that you walked in on us. I had the best orgasm of my life that day!”

“You are a fucking bitch!” Makayla yelled as she stood up and stomped to the door, yelling, “I hope everything goes okay with your baby, but I never want to hear from you again!

“You deserve each other, you and Jason. I never thought you would end up like this! You don’t fucking deserve everything that Liam is doing for you!

You are nothing but a conniving bitch, and I feel sorry for your baby! He deserves better parents than a backstabbing, stupid bitch of a mother and a lying, cheating thief for a father!”

Makayla left the room and slammed the door behind her. Maggie could see her run to Mike’s arms as Brett, Sheila, and Liam talked to her as she cried. Maggie stared at her former friend.

“She’s right, you know. You really are stupid; you could have had any man you wanted if you just tried.

“Brett would have given you a job at the club any time; he already told you that countless times, all you had to do was ask. Instead, you had to take something that wasn’t yours!

“I feel the same way as Makayla. I want nothing further to do with you. You don’t deserve the compassion that you are getting from my fiancée!

“You had three people that would have done anything for you at any time, and you threw it away! You are a bitch! And I hate you!”

Maggie walked to the door, angry tears in her eyes. Before her hand was on the doorknob, she heard Olivia say, “I’m sorry it came to this, but I am better for him in every way…and better in bed!”

Maggie turned and looked at her in shock. But she wouldn’t allow that bitch to have the last word.

“You may have gotten my leftover garbage, but I guarantee that I won’t spend a single second wishing things were different! I have a real man, and my children will want for nothing!

“And Jason was a lousy screw anyway, but Liam? He has skills that Jason could only imagine! I have mind-shattering orgasms on a regular basis! Don’t fuck with me, bitch!”

Maggie threw open the door and slammed it behind her as the deputy rushed over to make sure she was okay. After her assurance that she was, he went in to take Olivia back to the infirmary.

Liam just stood there and held her, rubbing her back. Sheila was in shock at how the two women she had come to love were so upset. Mike had taken Makayla home since she was so upset.

“What happened, Mags?” Brett asked gently. She recounted the story to the group.

“I am just glad that it’s over and I never will see her again! I still just can’t believe she was so bitter and angry! It was shocking to see her that way.”

They all sat together for a few minutes before Maggie looked at Liam. “I want to see him, Liam.”

He sighed. “I knew you would. He is in a holding cell waiting for a deputy to escort him to the visitors’ area. He will be behind glass, and you will talk with a phone, okay?”

She nodded as Liam got up to talk to the deputy that was helping them.

“Mags, are you sure about this?” Brett asked.

“Yes, I need to get some things off my chest, you know?”

Sheila understood, but Brett was struggling with the whole idea. “I just don’t want him to upset you like Olivia did with Mak!”

“I promise I will be careful, Bear,” Maggie said, hugging him fiercely.

She turned and hugged Sheila just as hard and whispered in her ear, “Take him home and get his mind occupied on you or the club and not on me or Mak, okay?”

Sheila nodded in response and pulled away just as Liam came back and told her they were ready.

Maggie took a deep breath and Liam took her hand to lead her to the visitation room. The officer opened the door and told her that Jason was in area six.

Maggie thanked him and walked to the numbered area. She turned to look at Liam as she did and saw the worry etched on his handsome face.

Her life was a mess, and she hoped that he wouldn’t regret getting involved with her. She gave him a small smile and then sat in the cubicle.

Another officer brought Jason inside and left him sitting in front of her with a large thick piece of plexiglass between them.
