Chapter 160: Poisoning
Dad, Stay Away from My Mom
At that moment, Melinda finished signing the papers and walked over.
Emily scoffed, "Melinda, don't think I don't know what you're up to. You just want to take over the Lowe Group while my mom's seriously ill. I'm telling you, it's not gonna happen!"
Melinda was trembling with anger. She pointed at Emily, her voice shaking slightly, "Emily... are you out of your mind? She's my mom. Why would I try to take her assets?"
"Your mom? Where were you all these years? Did you ever call to check on her? Did you visit her when she got sick? It was my dad and I who took her in and cared for her. If it weren't for us, do you think she'd still be alive after your dad died?" Emily pressed
on.
Melinda wanted to reveal the truth from back then, but seeing Connie so weak on the hospital bed, she couldn't bring herself to say anything hurtful.
But Emily wouldn't let it go. "My dad is her direct relative. What you're doing is illegal!" "Illegal, huh? Then go ahead and sue me! Let's see who ends up embarrassed!" Melinda retorted angrily.
If it weren't for her grandparents' investment back then, Bobby would never have become the company president.
Just then, Stuart's phone rang. It was Raymond calling.
Stuart quickly answered.
"I'll be there soon. Are Bobby and Emily still at the hospital? Get them out of there. I don't want to see them," Raymond said coldly on the other end.
Raymond had just arrived at the hospital when he got a call from the company about a project that needed his attention. He left Stuart to keep an eye on things, worried that Bobby and Emily would cause trouble.
Stuart hung up and said icily, "If you want to go up against the Thomas Group, be my guest. We have the best legal team in the country. Unless you don't want to stay in Shadow City anymore."
"You... this is outrageous! There's no justice!" Bobby and Emily's faces turned pale, but they still wanted to make a scene.
However the hospital security arrived and grabbed them by the arms. dragging them out of the hospital.
"You bastards! Let me go! I want to see my wife!" Bobby struggled and shouted, but the security guards ignored him and blocked their way.
Emily felt utterly humiliated. She grabbed Bobby's hand and quickly left the hospital.
As soon as they were outside, she pulled out her phone and called Leo. "Leo, it's bad. Connie's been transferred to the Thomas Group hospital. What should we do now?"
Leo was silent for a moment before he spoke slowly, "Don't worry. The will can't take effect yet. If Connie wakes up, it won't matter. So, you need to find a way to transfer her back to the previous hospital or take her home. Also, try to contact the media and expose Melinda for taking Connie and trying to seize the Lowe Group. Use public pressure to force her to give in."
Emily's eyes lit up. She thought it was a good idea.
She quickly agreed and hung up the phone, a sinister smile spreading across her face.
Bobby and Emily were indeed unwilling to give up.
Especially Bobby, who couldn't stand the thought of Melinda daring to scold him in front of everyone. To get Connie out of the Thomas Group hospital, they decided to contact the media and expose the situation.
"If we expose Melinda's scandal to the media, she won't be able to stay by Raymond's side. Then Connie won't be able to stay in the Thomas Group hospital either," Bobby said, a calculating look in his eyes.
Emily nodded, "Exactly. Then we can do whatever we want with Connie!"
Bobby and Emily agreed and immediately contacted the media. To grab attention and create a bigger story, they not only hid Melinda and Raymond's engagement but also fabricated rumors about Melinda trying to take over the Lowe Group.
"These are photos of Melinda with different men. Her private life is a mess. She doesn't deserve to be a daughter of the Lowe family, let alone inherit the Lowe Group!" Emily handed the photos to Otto, the editor-in-chief of a tabloid.
Otto glanced at the photos, his eyes gleaming. "Alright, we'll run with this story!"
Emily handed Otto two hundred thousand dollars in cash, worried that a bank transfer might be traced by Raymond's people. After explaining everything, she walked away with a smug look on her face.
At the Thomas Group hospital.
After a series of tests, Connie's condition didn't look good.
"The patient may remain in a coma for a while," the doctor said gravely, looking at the test results.
Hearing this, Melinda was devastated, frozen in place. Three months...
She had to wait three months for her condition to improve enough for surgery...
Melinda felt helpless and desperate, tears welling up in her eyes.

"Melinda, don't worry. I'll get the best doctors to perform the surgery for your mother," Raymond said as he arrived, gently patting her shoulder to comfort her.
Melinda looked up at him, her eyes filled with tears. "Raymond, I'm so scared..."
"Don't be. I'm here," Raymond said softly, pulling her into his arms.
Just then, the doctor approached. "Mr. Thomas, the patient's condition is very unstable. She needs to be transferred to the ICU immediately."
Raymond glanced at Melinda, seeing her pale and worried face. He frowned, "Alright, transfer her to the ICU right away. Also, get the best doctors in the hospital for a consultation."
"Yes, sir," the doctor replied and went to make the arrangements.
Meanwhile, the lab results came in.
"Mr. Thomas, our tests show that the pills in Mrs. Lowe's home are different from the residue in her mouth. She ingested a poison harmful to the heart, and it wasn't taken
in a short period," the lab technician reported, handing the results to Raymond.
Raymond's expression changed dramatically as he read the results.
Poison?
Connie had been poisoned!
Who could have done this?
Melinda saw the results too and was stunned.
Poison...
Could someone be trying to harm Connie?
But who would do such a thing?
Suddenly, she thought of Bobby and Emily.

Who else would hate Connie so much?
A cold glint flashed in Melinda's eyes.
If it was really them, she wouldn't let them get away with it!
"Raymond, I don't want to get engaged right now. I can't handle it," Melinda said,
looking at Raymond with difficulty.
Raymond paused, then understood.
"Alright," Melinda nodded. "With my mother in a coma, her life hanging by a thread, I
can't think about anything else."
"I understand," Raymond said seriously, looking at her.
Just then, Stuart rushed over. "Mr. Thomas, bad news. Bobby and Emily have gone to the media."
He handed Raymond a tablet.
Raymond's face darkened as he read the news.
Bobby and Emily had twisted the truth, maliciously slandering Melinda, portraying her
as a promiscuous woman trying to seize the family fortune.
The comments below were even worse, full of vile insults and accusations against Melinda.
Melinda was shaking with anger.
"Don't be mad," Raymond comforted her. "I'll have Stuart handle it. We'll get these stories taken down soon."
"No need," Melinda shook her head.
Raymond knew she wasn't someone who would be easily defeated.
Melinda glared at the TV screen, seething at Bobby and Emily's despicable faces, wanting to smash the TV.
Fortunately, Raymond was right beside her. He reached out and pulled her into his arms, soothing her with gentle words, "Don't worry. By doing this, they're going up against the Thomas Group."
