Chapter 198: Unable to Replace Her Position

Dad, Stay Away from My Mom

When Ivy saw Dennis and Claire looking so close, her face darkened instantly. "Claire! It's late, and instead of sleeping, you're here cozying up to Dennis. What are you trying to pull?"

Dennis barely looked up, his voice calm. "Ivy, you've got it wrong. Claire just hurt herself, and I'm helping her with the wound."

Ivy clenched her teeth in anger but had no choice but to storm off.

After tending to the wound, Dennis helped Claire upstairs to rest. Only when she was settled in bed did he leave.

Early the next morning, Melinda got up. She stood by the window and stretched. Raymond hugged her tightly from behind. "Morning, honey."

"Morning, darling."

Melinda turned around, returning Raymond's hug and planting a sweet kiss on his cheek. "I have to go to the lab today; there's a lot to handle!"

Raymond smiled and playfully pinched her nose. "Don't overdo it. I'll get someone to help you."

He picked up his phone and called Frank, the lab director. "Frank, get everything ready. Melinda's coming in soon. From now on, she'll be calling the shots at the lab."

After giving his instructions, Raymond headed to the office.

Melinda got a call from Frank, saying the materials were ready and waiting for her in the conference room.

She glanced at the time, quickly changed into a black business suit, grabbed her bag and keys, and headed out.

At ten o'clock, Frank was waiting for Melinda at the lab entrance.

After exchanging a few pleasantries, they entered the lab together.

"Mr. Martin, long time no see. What's the future direction for our lab?" Melinda's voice was clear and pleasant, tinged with anticipation for the unknown.

Looking at Melinda now, Frank was reminded of the first time he met her. She was like a blazing fire, burning passionately.

But now, he hadn't expected Melinda would end up marrying Raymond.

The current Melinda had become somewhat sharp, a far cry from the innocent face she once had.

Frank explained the materials one by one, and Melinda listened intently.

Meanwhile, in the president's office of the Thomas Group, Raymond was holding a

resume.

His gaze fell on the photo on the resume. The woman in the picture was Gwyneth.

He frowned slightly, recalling the Thomas Group's rule: no extended family members could be employed.

He sighed helplessly and was about to put the resume back in the drawer when the phone rang.

Raymond picked up the phone, and Gwyneth's sweet voice came through the receiver. "Raymond, are you busy? I need to talk to you."

Raymond paused and said, "Come to the office. We'll talk in person." Then he hung up. Soon, Gwyneth arrived at Raymond's office.

She wore a light blue dress and had delicate makeup, looking very charming.

She walked into the office, looked around, and praised, "Raymond, your office is beautiful!"

Raymond smiled slightly and gestured for her to sit down.

He handed Gwyneth a document and said, "This is information about another company. I think their director position would suit you. You should consider it."

Gwyneth glanced at the document but wasn't very interested.

She looked up at Raymond and said, "Raymond, I actually want to stay and work at the Thomas Group. Can you give me a chance?"

Raymond looked at her, shook his head, and said, "Gwyneth, you know the rules of the Thomas Group. I can't make an exception."

His tone was firm yet gentle, exuding an undeniable authority.

Hearing this, Gwyneth felt a bit disappointed but didn't give up.

She stood up, walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, and looked at the view outside. "Raymond, I understand your difficulties, but I really want to stay and work by your side, to help ease some of your burdens."

She turned around, her eyes filled with hope and longing as she looked at Raymond.

But Raymond didn't meet her gaze. He lowered his head and continued working on his documents.

Just then, the phone rang again.

Raymond picked up the phone, and Melinda's voice came through. "Raymond, I want to make some changes to your old office to make it easier for me to handle things."

Hearing this, Raymond immediately smiled warmly and said, "Sure, I'll have someone take care of it right away." His voice was filled with affection and indulgence for Melinda.

Standing nearby, Gwyneth couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy. She knew the call must have been from Melinda. Realizing she couldn't replace Melinda's position in Raymond's heart, she felt a deep sense of loss and frustration.

After hanging up, Raymond turned to look at Gwyneth, who was sitting across from him. She was holding a cup of tea, her face showing a faint smile, and her eyes were gently fixed on him.

"Raymond, you're really lucky to have married someone as wonderful as Melinda." Raymond smiled slightly. "Yeah, meeting her is the best thing that ever happened to me."

A complex emotion flashed in Gwyneth's eyes as she looked at Raymond. "I remember when we were kids, I once broke a vase and was too scared to admit it. You took the blame for me. Back then, I felt so safe and happy with you around."

His tone was indifferent. "That's all in the past. Let's not bring it up again."

"But those memories are precious to me." Gwyneth lowered her eyes, her voice trembling slightly.

Raymond remained silent and changed the subject. "How's life abroad?"

She smiled faintly, her eyes showing a hint of vulnerability as she looked at Raymond. "Sometimes it gets lonely, especially when I see couples everywhere. But I've gotten used to it. I can manage on my own."

Raymond frowned slightly but didn't respond.

After a moment, he spoke solemnly. "Gwyneth, I've always seen you as a sister. I did when we were kids, and I still do now. I married Melinda because she's the mother of my child." Hearing this, Gwyneth felt a wave of sadness.

She forced a smile. "I understand."

Raymond nodded. "That's for the best. You'll find your own happiness someday." "Alright, I'll head out now. You must be busy." Gwyneth stood up and walked towards the door.

Raymond escorted Gwyneth to the door, his voice neutral. "Take care."

Gwyneth turned and paused at the corner. She looked at Raymond's handsome profile, her eyes deep with unspoken emotions. She gave a bitter smile. It was laughable. No matter what she did, she couldn't replace Melinda in his heart.

Meanwhile, Dennis wasn't idle either. He had arranged for a feng shui master to survey

a prime location, and Claire, as his assistant, accompanied him.

The car drove along a country road, flanked by lush trees and fields. Upon reaching their destination, Claire followed Dennis and the feng shui master out of the car.

Suddenly, a large dog burst out of the nearby bushes. Claire screamed and clung to the bodyguard beside her. The bodyguard reacted quickly, kicking the dog away. "Claire, are you okay?" Dennis walked over, concerned.

Claire shook her head and pulled away from the bodyguard. "I'm fine, thank you." She looked at the bodyguard with gratitude in her eyes. In that moment, she felt as if she saw a heroic light emanating from him.

Dennis noticed Claire's unusual reaction to the bodyguard and frowned but said nothing.

At noon, the group went to a countryside restaurant for lunch. The restaurant was simple, but the food was authentic and delicious. Claire sat next to Dennis, occasionally sneaking glances at the bodyguard sitting across from her.
