Chapter 263: Slept in His Bed
Dad, Stay Away from My Mom
He smirked slightly and asked, "Explain what?"
Seraphina worried about affecting his authoritative image in front of his subordinates. "Alright," Zachary said, picking up the laptop nearby and walking out.
Seraphina watched him leave and let out a long sigh of relief. The situation was ridiculous and absurd, but there was an inexplicable feeling stirring in her chest.
In the conference room, Knox and the others were eager to ask Zachary about his progress with Seraphina.
"Mr. Baker, how are things with Seraphina? Is she about to become your wife?" Knox asked, his face full of gossip.
Zachary responded coolly, "What nonsense." Knox wanted to continue questioning but was interrupted by Isaac.
Isaac quickly intervened, "Get back to work before we get scolded!"
Knox and the others shut their mouths.
Although Isaac had helped him out, Zachary's eyes still held a warning.
Isaac smiled and said, "Don't worry, guys. If Mr. Baker has good news, he'll definitely let us know."
Zachary didn't explain, but the image of Seraphina sitting on the couch flashed in his mind.
He frowned unconsciously. Was Seraphina this forward with all men?
Zachary smiled wryly. His engagement to Della wasn't his choice. Last time, in front of Atlas, he couldn't refuse. He planned to call off the engagement after the mission was
over.
But Della was Seraphina's cousin, which made things complicated.
Seraphina, having not slept well the previous night, fell asleep on the couch after reading for a while.
Zachary remembered he had forgotten some documents and returned to the room, only to see Seraphina curled up on the couch without a blanket.
He walked over and gently draped a thin blanket over her, careful not to wake her.
He then turned to the bookshelf to find the documents. Just as he was about to leave,
he heard Seraphina whimpering in distress.
He turned back to see her frowning, cold sweat on her forehead.
She was having a nightmare.
Zachary gently shook her shoulder. "Seraphina, wake up."
In her dream: Seraphina was in a dark, eerie forest, shadows looming all around. The shouts of assassins echoed like ghosts in her ears. She ran desperately, finally breaking out of the woods, only to see Zachary being held hostage by a masked man. Blood trickled down his forehead, a gun pressed to his head. The assassin grinned wickedly, like a demon from hell. Seraphina broke down, screaming in her dream, "Zachary, run! I won't let you die!"
Her hands clenched into fists, her body trembling with the nightmare.
Zachary's heart tightened, not knowing what she was seeing in her dream that terrified her so much.
Her tightly furrowed brows and the tears at the corners of her eyes stirred a sense of pity in him.
Zachary called softly, "Seraphina, wake up!"
Seraphina woke up, seeing Zachary so close, and instinctively hugged his neck.
She buried her face in his chest, sobbing.
Zachary's body stiffened, feeling her hot tears on his neck.
Seraphina, still disoriented from the vivid dream, clung to Zachary, her face buried in his chest.
Zachary's body stiffened, gently patting her back to comfort her. "Don't be afraid, it was just a dream."
Seraphina looked up, the dream so real that she couldn't snap out of it immediately. After a few minutes, Seraphina noticed the wet spot on Zachary's shirt, clinging to his body. Embarrassed, she covered her face, her voice choked with tears, telling Zachary not to laugh at her, sniffling.
She then recounted the dream to Zachary in detail.

Zachary listened, seeing her aggrieved expression, and couldn't help but laugh.
When Seraphina noticed, she hit Zachary's arm, telling him not to make fun of her and not to tell Knox and the others.
Zachary stopped laughing and said seriously, "What happened in the dream will never happen, trust me!"
Seraphina sniffled, half-believing, half-doubting. Zachary's eyes were firm. "I won't let you be in danger, and I won't be easily captured."
Seraphina looked at his stern yet confident face, her lingering fear gradually dissipating. She believed he wouldn't lie to her, and her emotions slowly calmed down.
Still pale from the nightmare, her eyes dull, Seraphina was too scared to sleep despite being very tired. She asked Zachary, "Can you stay with me for a while?"
Seeing he didn't refuse, she pushed her luck further, "The couch is too narrow. Can I sleep in your bed?" Zachary was taken aback. He had never let another woman sleep in his bed, but seeing Seraphina's pitiful eyes, he nodded.
Seraphina got up, yawning sleepily, her steps unsteady, and stumbled into Zachary's arms, her face scrunching up in discomfort. "Why is your body so hard?"
Zachary smirked slightly, holding her and guiding her to his bed.
Zachary's bed was neatly made, giving Seraphina a strange sense of comfort. She looked at Zachary's profile as he sat on the couch, his strong features outlined in the light. She couldn't help but steal a few more glances before her eyelids grew heavy, and she fell asleep again.
After a while, Zachary turned to see Seraphina already in a deep sleep, a gentle smile unconsciously forming on his lips. He then called Knox to bring the laptop back to his
room.
When Knox came in and saw Seraphina on the bed, he deliberately lightened his steps, handed the laptop to Zachary, and whispered, "Mr. Baker, you never let anyone sleep in your bed. Are you admitting to your relationship with Seraphina?"
Zachary shot him a glare.
Knox shrank back, put down the laptop, and left with a mischievous smile.
With just the two of them in the room, Zachary worked for a while, then looked at Seraphina again. Her brows were relaxed, and she occasionally smacked her lips in her sleep, which he found quite endearing. He covered her with a thin blanket.
At six in the evening, Seraphina slowly opened her eyes and saw Zachary still working.
An impish thought crossed her mind. Pretending to be startled from a nightmare, she whimpered, "Zachary, don't go!" her voice tinged with tears.
"What's wrong?" Zachary quickly put down his laptop and came over.
Hearing the movement, she reached out blindly.
When Zachary took her hand, she secretly rejoiced that her plan had worked.
But Zachary, ever perceptive, easily saw through her act and said coldly, "If you're awake, get up."
Seraphina, caught, blushed instantly, like a child reluctant to get out of bed, extending her arms and pouting, "My legs are numb, help me up."
Zachary didn't want to indulge her, but seeing her flushed cheeks, he extended his hand. Seraphina's eyes curved into a charming smile, as warm as the spring sun.
After Seraphina freshened up and went to the dining hall, everyone else was almost done eating. Knox enthusiastically called her over to sit.
She noticed Knox, Dane, Ezra, and Isaac giving her strange looks, quickly turning her face away, her eyes evasive yet teasing.
After they looked away, Dane cleared his throat and said warmly, "Seraphina, do you want to go stargazing tonight? I know a great spot with beautiful scenery."
Seraphina, having slept well, was feeling bored.
Hearing Dane's invitation, her eyes lit up, and she readily agreed.
Knox and the others exchanged knowing smiles, understanding Dane's intentions, and
all insisted on going along, even urging Zachary to join.
He hesitated, his brows furrowing, a hint of reluctance on his face.
"I still have some work to finish..."
He started to say, but was cut off by everyone in unison.
"You can do the work tomorrow!" Knox said with a smile.
Under their persistent persuasion, Zachary finally nodded.
He stood up, saying they'd meet at the door in five minutes.
Seraphina was overjoyed, sneaking a glance at Zachary, her eyes full of anticipation.
