Chapter 271: If One Kiss Can't Solve It, Then Two
Dad, Stay Away from My Mom
Seraphina watched, feeling a strange unease. She didn't know Zachary well enough yet, and their relationship had just started to progress.
Sofia's words were like a stone thrown into a calm lake, creating ripples.
Back in her room, she sat on the bed, feeling restless. She decided to go for a walk to clear her mind.
As she wandered, her thoughts were scattered. On the path leading to the spring, she noticed some wildflowers by the roadside and absentmindedly picked one to play with. Suddenly, she heard a pitiful cry from above. Looking up, she saw a small bird trapped by vines, unable to move.
Feeling compassionate, she decided to climb the tree to rescue it.
Carefully, she used the branches to climb up, struggling to reach the bird. She inched along a single branch, which swayed with her movements. After much effort, she managed to free the bird, which flapped its wings and flew away.
But Seraphina lost her balance and slipped. She was ten feet up and panicked as she looked down.
Clinging tightly to the trunk, her arms grew weaker by the second. Desperate, she shouted for help.
Zachary, leading a run, heard her cries. His face changed, and he instinctively knew it was her.
Without hesitation, he sprinted towards the sound, with Knox and Ezra following closely behind.
Just as Seraphina was about to fall, she saw Zachary approaching. Her heart leaped with joy, but the sudden emotion caused her to lose her grip, and she fell with a
scream.
In the nick of time, Zachary caught her securely.
Seraphina, terrified, instinctively wrapped her legs around Zachary's waist and clung to his neck.
Overwhelmed with relief, she impulsively kissed Zachary, full of gratitude and apology. "I'm sorry, you saved me again."
Zachary's eyes were initially sharp and slightly annoyed, but her kiss melted his anger, replaced by a surge of affection.
He cupped the back of her head and kissed her back passionately, a mix of love and reprimand for her carelessness.
Seraphina blushed deeply, breathless and dazed from the kiss.
Just then, Knox and Ezra arrived, panting, and saw the intimate scene. They were stunned, exchanging bewildered looks, unsure how to react.
They quietly turned and left.
After Zachary let go, Seraphina shyly buried her face in his neck for a moment before looking up at him with a gentle smile, her cheeks flushed. "You kissed me first... that was so sudden!"
Zachary blushed but didn't avoid her gaze, his eyes showing a hint of fondness. "I didn't expect it either..."
He glanced at her rosy lips, still feeling the lingering sensation, surprised at how easily his rationality and restraint crumbled before her.
Seraphina asked Zachary to put her down and explained, "I climbed the tree to save a bird. It was trapped."
Zachary's expression turned stern, his brows furrowed. "No more climbing trees. Safety is the most important thing."
He casually plucked a gray feather from her hair.
Seraphina pouted, her eyes welling up. "The bird was so small and pitiful, tangled in the vines. I had to help."
Seeing her upset, Zachary examined the feather closely. "It's a pretty feather. We could keep it as a memento."
Seraphina's cheeks reddened, and she playfully glared at him. "Do you believe me now? I wasn't just messing around or picking wild fruits."
She worried Zachary might misunderstand her.
Zachary sighed, "Alright, next time, just tell me, and I'll handle it."
"Okay!"
They shared a smile, the tension easing into a light-hearted atmosphere.
Seraphina decided to keep the feather, wrapping it in a tissue to make a bookmark
later, a small token of their first shared experience.
She beamed like a child and hugged Zachary. He hesitated for a moment before gently stroking her hair, his expression complex.
Footsteps approached, and Seraphina, startled, pulled away and tidied her hair.
Two team members arrived, awkwardly scratching their heads. "Uh, we... took a wrong turn. We'll leave now."
Seraphina laughed at their reaction, taking Zachary's hand and walking back without hesitation.
At the camp entrance, she let go of his hand and winked playfully. "Keep it low-key."
Just then, Sofia appeared, wearing a tight red dress, her hair in waves, heavily made up. She swayed over, her voice sweet. "Zachary, can I borrow some books from your room?"
Seraphina stepped in front, arms crossed. "He's busy. You can get books from the library."
Sofia pouted, her eyes flashing with disdain as she glanced at Zachary.
Zachary turned slightly, his expression cold. "Ms. Moore, it's not convenient."
He wrapped an arm around Seraphina's shoulder, making Sofia's anger flare. She clenched her fists, determined to win Zachary over.
Inside Zachary's room, Seraphina felt like an ant on a hot pan, unable to focus on reading.
Sitting on the couch, she kept replaying the morning's kiss in her mind, her cheeks pink. She muttered to herself, "His kiss was so intense and rough, but why did I..."
Lost in thought, she suddenly remembered Zachary's engagement and sighed, worried. "What should I do? I might have crossed a line. But... am I being unfair to his fiancée?"

As she fretted, the door opened, and Zachary walked in.
Seeing her troubled expression, he frowned. "What's wrong?"
Startled, Seraphina stammered, "N-nothing."
"Are you sure?" Zachary's voice was filled with doubt.
Seraphina nodded quickly. "I'm... just tired."
She moved to lie down on the couch.
"Seraphina," Zachary called her name.
She paused, looking up at him, confused. "What is it?"
His gaze was deep, as if holding countless words.
Blushing, she heard him say, "If you're tired, sleep here."
He picked up some files and left the room again.
In the meeting room, Zachary and his team discussed a new urgent matter. His subordinates looked serious as they conveyed orders from above. "Mr. Baker, you are not allowed to participate in this mission."
Zachary was puzzled, his brows furrowed. "Why? I need a reason."
The other person shook his head helplessly. "I don't know."
After the meeting, Zachary dismissed his team and called a long-uncontacted number,
his tone stiff. "Uncle, why are you interfering with my work?"
A commanding voice replied, "This mission is related to your father's death. I can't let you take the risk."
