Chapter 28: Continuing to Rally Allies

Dad, Stay Away from My Mom

"Sam, why didn't you call me?" Melinda finally snapped back to reality. Sam actually called Raymond first?

At this moment, Sam was full of grievances. He had called Melinda, but no one answered on the other end. Helplessly, he had to dial Raymond's number.

Melinda then discovered that her phone had many missed calls from unknown numbers.

"It's getting late, let me take you home."

Raymond stood up, holding Sam's hand and walking forward. Melinda was stunned for a moment. Why did it feel like Raymond was angry? What was he angry about? Was it just because Sam called him and interrupted his good time?

"Mr. Thomas, thank you for today."

After all, it was Raymond who helped find Sam, and Melinda didn't want to owe him this thank you.

"Mm!"

Raymond just responded with a faint "mm."

After getting in the car, the atmosphere inside turned cold again.

"Mr. Thomas, are you unhappy?" Sam sensed something was off.

"Mm, Melinda lost Sam, of course I'm not happy." Raymond's words hit Melinda hard.

"It wasn't Mommy who lost me, it was Elsie. She said she would take me to the amusement park, but as soon as we got in, she said she needed to go to the bathroom. I waited there for a long time, but she never came back."

Sam didn't quite understand, thinking Melinda hadn't done anything wrong.

Hearing this, Melinda was stunned. Sam wasn't lost; she believed Sam wouldn't lie. But why would Elsie do this?

When they arrived at her apartment complex, Melinda quickly got out of the car, ready to pick up Sam and leave.

Unexpectedly, Raymond parked the car and was one step ahead, picking up Sam. "Mr. Thomas, it's late, thank you for taking us home."

She was about to take Sam from him.

Raymond turned around, avoiding Melinda's hand.

What did this mean?

"Do you need me to stay with Sam?"

When Raymond found Sam, Sam wasn't crying or fussing and knew to seek help from those around him.

"Sam!"

Melinda's voice was full of warning, staring at him. If Sam dared to say he wanted Raymond to stay, she would really be angry.

"Mr. Thomas, it's too late today, you should go home and rest early!"

Sam looked aggrieved, making people feel a bit sorry for him.

"Can I at least walk you to your door?"

Was this a compromise? Melinda wanted to refuse, but Raymond directly carried Sam into the complex.

Melinda stood at the door, her hands slightly raised, as if to keep him out, "Mr. Thomas, I'm home now, thank you for bringing me."

Raymond's eyebrows raised slightly, a hint of surprise flashed in his deep eyes. He didn't expect Melinda to reject his further approach so directly.

This time, Raymond didn't say anything. He put Sam down, and just as Melinda was opening the door, he thought about going in.

Melinda let Sam in first, then blocked the door with her body, "Mr. Thomas, don't you have a home?"

She wouldn't let Raymond, this bad man, into her house today no matter what. Raymond suddenly stepped forward, pressing close to Melinda, their eyes meeting.

For a moment, Melinda's heart raced, and her ears turned red.

She couldn't compete with Raymond in flirting. She turned to go inside, "You're leaving just like that? No plans to thank me?"

Raymond suddenly turned Melinda around, pinning her against the wall, one hand around her waist, the other on the wall.

"Didn't I just thank you?"

Their current position was extremely suggestive.

"A verbal thank you?"

Raymond didn't know why, but he couldn't help wanting to get closer to Melinda.

"Then I'll treat Mr. Thomas to a meal?"

The more Melinda resisted, the tighter his grip. Her face turned red, her eyes warning him.

Raymond's breath brushed her face, and they suddenly fell silent. Just when Melinda thought he would kiss her like before, the grip on her waist loosened.

"Alright, you said it, you owe me a meal."

With that, Raymond turned and entered the elevator.

Was she being played?

Melinda glared at Raymond before slamming the door shut.

In another restaurant corner, Emily and Melinda's colleague Tenley sat across from

each other, the atmosphere seemingly calm.

"You know about my relationship with Mr. Thomas, right?"

Emily gently swirled the wine glass in front of her, the red liquid spinning, a hint of pride in her eyes.

"So what?"

Tenley's eyes sharpened at her words. She didn't think she was any worse than Emily. She just lacked an opportunity.

"Don't look at me like that. Have you heard the saying, 'The enemy of my enemy is my friend'?"

Emily seemed to see right through Tenley.

"What do you mean?"

Tenley looked at Emily suspiciously. She had been curious about why Emily had asked her out.

"Melinda."

Emily said, as if declaring some kind of fate.

Tenley's face turned ugly, clenching her fists in frustration.

"Do you hate her? Resent her? Jealous of her?" Emily sneered.

Tenley was silent for a moment, then suddenly looked up at Emily, "What do you want me to do?"

How could she not hate? Melinda came in with a mid-level title, deputy supervisor treatment, and no one blamed her for mistakes. She got scolded every day. Why? Even Raymond was interested in Melinda.

She worked so hard in the lab, only to have a junior title, with a salary far lower than Melinda's.

Melinda was just a single mom. Why? Just because she had a beautiful face that could seduce people?

"I like talking to smart people. If you cooperate with me, title evaluations won't be a problem, and your treatment will improve. How about it? You can find any man you want then." Emily's voice was filled with a hint of pleasure.

"Why should I believe you?"

Tenley wasn't stupid. Emily might have money, but she was just one of Raymond's many women. Rich men changed girlfriends more often than clothes.

"See this? Larry gave it to me personally. I'm going to marry into the Thomas family." Emily showed off her expensive gemstone ring.

Tenley was surprised, then sighed deeply. She would never have a chance to be Raymond's woman in this life.

"Alright, I agree."

However, Melinda was unaware of the truth that people around her were being bought

off. At this moment, she was fully focused on preparing for the afternoon's parent-child activity, oblivious to the impending storm.

At one o'clock, Melinda appeared in the underground garage on time. Raymond was already waiting there. He had shed his usual cold image, now dressed in a white casual outfit, exuding a warm and handsome charm.
