Chapter 302 Worrying About Safety, A Simple Wedding

Dad, Stay Away from My Mom

After returning to the private room, Nova absentmindedly picked at her food, pondering the meaning behind Blair's words.

When Aiden walked in, Nova stood up to greet him, curiosity evident in her voice. "Hey, Aiden, who was she?"

"A work colleague," Aiden replied calmly.

"I think she likes you," Nova whispered.

Aiden's face darkened, his voice turning cold. "Don't say stuff like that."

Nova didn't press further, and the atmosphere in the room instantly chilled.

Aiden placed some shrimp, her favorite, onto her plate. Nova snapped out of her thoughts and thanked him.

She hadn't eaten yet, so Aiden put the shrimp in her bowl, looking her in the eyes. "She's the head of the translation department, your future boss."

Nova was taken aback, regretting not having introduced herself earlier. Aiden's lips curled into a reassuring smile. "Don't worry about it."

Seizing the moment while Aiden was in a good mood, Nova gathered her courage to ask, "Aiden, what did she mean by those things she said earlier?"

Aiden brushed it off. "She was drunk."

"Really?" Nova persisted.

Aiden: "Don't overthink it. Just focus on doing well in the translation department."

After dinner, the atmosphere on the way home was much lighter. Aiden asked Nova, "How did you find studying abroad?"

Nova's eyes lit up. "Because of my parents' work, I've always loved translation. I hope to contribute to the country like they did."

Soon, they arrived home. As she got out of the car, Nova asked, "Aiden, wanna come in for a bit?"

Aiden shook his head, needing to handle some work. "No, I have things to do."

Nova earnestly reminded him, "Take care of yourself." She smiled and waved goodbye before heading inside.

As she walked through the door, Nova peeked back out, her face glowing under the light, making Aiden's heart race.

Watching her disappear behind the door, Aiden slowly started the car...

Meanwhile, in her apartment study, Seraphina was working alone, anxiously waiting for Zachary, who was still out.

Seraphina gazed at the city lights in the distance, her eyes soft, radiating happiness.

Soon, she heard the door. Zachary's tall figure entered, and Seraphina walked out to greet him. As she approached, Zachary pulled her into a tight embrace, his possessiveness clear.

He kissed her forehead gently. "Honey, I missed you." Then he kissed her lips, leaving Seraphina no time to hang up her coat.

After a moment, Seraphina pushed Zachary away, urging him to shower.

Zachary, reluctant to let go, whispered against her cheek, "I was having dinner with Grandpa, that's why I'm late."

Seraphina smiled warmly. "You don't need to explain. I trust you."

Zachary asked about her dinner, and Seraphina replied that she had porridge sent by

her assistant, as she was dieting to look good in her wedding dress.

Zachary wrapped his arms around her waist, measuring it, and said with concern, "Don't diet. You're too thin. I like you with a bit more weight."

He lifted her slightly, declaring, "I just want you to be healthy."

Seraphina hugged his neck, kissing his cheek. "Okay, I'll listen to you."

Zachary headed to the bathroom. As the water started running, Seraphina noticed Zachary's phone had fallen from his coat. Seeing the caller ID, her heart skipped a beat. It was Atlas.

She quickly answered, "Grandpa." Her voice was unusually tense.

Atlas mentioned a disagreement with Zachary about the wedding, sounding a bit resigned. "I want a simple wedding, just a family dinner, no public reception." Seraphina was momentarily stunned but gently reassured him. "Grandpa, don't be upset. Zachary and I will discuss it. Don't worry."

Atlas continued, "Zachary's job is dangerous. I lost my son; I can't lose my grandson too. So, I hope for a simple wedding."

Seraphina's voice was soft. "I understand, Grandpa. A simple wedding is fine. I don't want Zachary in danger either. Please don't be sad."

Atlas, comforted by Seraphina's understanding, couldn't help but thank her. "You're a good girl. Zachary will make it up to you."

Seraphina responded gracefully, "Grandpa, the wedding isn't important. What's important is that Zachary and I are together."

After hanging up, Seraphina looked towards the bathroom. She realized Zachary had argued with Atlas because of her. She felt a pang of guilt, understanding that a simple wedding was for Zachary's safety.

She suddenly felt that not having a wedding was okay. As long as they loved each other, nothing else mattered.

Feeling a deep ache in her heart, she went upstairs and knocked on the bathroom door. "Zachary, I need to talk to you."

Zachary, surprised, turned off the water and opened the door, a gray towel around his waist, steam still rising around him.

He was taken aback, but before he could react, Seraphina earnestly asked him to sit beside her. "Zachary, I need to talk to you."

"Yes."

Zachary shifted, looking at her seriously. He guessed Atlas had called her.

He hugged Seraphina's shoulders, comforting her. "Don't worry. I'll give you a grand wedding."

But Seraphina shook her head, resting her head on his warm chest, her eyes full of determination. "Zachary, the wedding doesn't matter. What matters is that we're together. I don't need anything else, just your safety."

Hearing Seraphina's heartfelt words, Zachary felt a surge of emotion.

He held Seraphina tightly, wanting to protect her fiercely.

Zachary gently stroked her hair, his eyes full of tenderness. He sighed, "You're the best woman, yet you can't have a normal wedding. I feel so guilty."

Seraphina playfully blinked, wrapping her arms around his waist. "I've always gotten what I wanted easily, but you're unique. I don't want to lose you! Call Grandpa back, so he doesn't worry."

Zachary kissed her forehead, full of gratitude. "Thank you, Seraphina."

Seraphina then playfully tugged on Zachary's arm, pouting. "I'm hungry. Can we go out for a late-night snack?"

Zachary smiled indulgently. "Okay, whatever you want."

After getting dressed, Zachary called Atlas, his voice steady and warm. "Grandpa, don't worry. Seraphina and I are fine. You should rest early."

Seraphina hummed a tune as she changed, and they left together, their figures sweetly illuminated by the night.

Across town, in a seedy bar frequented by thugs, the air was thick with smoke and dim lights. Ace, his face flushed with anger and frustration, clung to two friends, slurring his words.

"Remember how I always looked out for you guys? Now I've been wronged, and you need to help me get back at Seraphina and Niamh. They need to know I'm not to be messed with, especially after Seraphina's boyfriend humiliated me. I can't let that go."
