Chapter 61 Sam is Missing

Dad, Stay Away from My Mom

As soon as Melinda stepped into the elevator, she could feel the tension radiating off Raymond, like he was carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Her heart sank, and she quickly decided against riding in his car. When the elevator doors opened, she didn't waste a second. "Raymond, don't worry about it. I'll just grab a cab."

Raymond shot her a look, his eyes darkening with a hint of irritation.

Just as she was about to book a ride on her phone, she felt a strong hand grip her wrist.

She looked up, meeting Raymond's intense, unwavering gaze.

Without a word, he pulled her along to the parking lot, opened the car door, and practically pushed her into the passenger seat.

Melinda frowned. Raymond was always so overbearing.

He leaned over to buckle her seatbelt, their faces so close she could feel his breath. Instinctively, she leaned back. Then, with a roar, the car sped onto the road.

The atmosphere inside the car was thick with tension.

Melinda couldn't help but steal a few glances at Raymond, trying to read his expression, but his face was as unreadable as ever.

"Are you serious?"

Raymond's voice suddenly broke the silence, deep and resonant, like it came from the depths of his soul.

Melinda was caught off guard and turned to look at him. She had once dreamed of a happy marriage, but reality had shattered that dream. She nodded firmly. "Yes."

Raymond frowned, clearly unhappy with her answer.

He paused before continuing, "If there was a man both you and Sam liked, would you still refuse to get married? Is it because of me?"

He wanted to ask why she had the other man's child, but he held back.

She looked out the window, her voice steady. "No!"

Raymond's heart tightened. Melinda was so cold.

"Melinda, have you ever thought that Sam might want a father who loves him?"

He gritted his teeth, a flash of anger in his eyes.

Melinda turned to him, a hint of irritation in her eyes. "What does that have to do with you? That's my business."

He fell silent again.

A wave of emotion surged in Melinda's heart, and she suddenly regretted if her words had been too harsh.

"Raymond, you have a fiancée. You should focus on her."

She tried to change the subject to ease the tension.

Raymond coldly replied, "That's my business."

Melinda sighed and fell silent.

Raymond was always like this, impossible to read.

"Pull over!"

The car stopped in front of the lab, and Melinda quickly spoke up.

This time, Raymond didn't argue.

As soon as the car stopped, Melinda grabbed her bag, opened the door, and rushed out, hurrying towards the entrance.

Watching her retreating figure, Raymond's emotions churned once more.

He took a deep breath and drove to the underground parking lot.

At five in the afternoon, Melinda arrived at the kindergarten but didn't see Sam.

Her heart skipped a beat, a bad feeling washing over her.

She quickly asked the teacher, but the answer left her mind blank.

Sam's dad had picked him up?

From the teacher's description, she guessed it was Raymond.

Furious, she called Raymond, who simply sent her a location.

In a rush, she arrived at a large amusement park and spotted a man and a boy sitting

on a bench, eating.

Her heart finally settled.

She walked over slowly.

"Do you know how worried I was?"

Melinda's emotions were still high, and she raised her hand to scold, but Sam's soft "Mommy!" melted her anger.

She couldn't help but scold a bit, but her words were full of concern.

Raymond sat silently watching, the three of them looking like a family to outsiders. "Why did you do this?"

Melinda's tone held a hint of reproach, but mostly concern, her gaze involuntarily falling on Raymond.

Raymond's face showed a faint smile. "Sam and I had a deal. He wanted to come to the amusement park, and then we'll have dinner."

"Mommy, it was so much fun!"

Sam was still immersed in the joy of the amusement park, looking at Melinda with anticipation.

"Alright, I'll take you next time when I have time."

Then, Melinda turned to Raymond. "Raymond, please don't do this again. I'm the child's guardian."

"Mommy, don't blame Raymond. I insisted on coming to the amusement park. It's my fault!" Seeing Sam's pitiful look, she squatted down and hugged him.

"Next time, remember to call me first, or I'll worry." She said softly.

The child wrapped his arms around her neck, his voice sweet. "Okay, Mommy, I will!" Then he gave her a big kiss on the cheek.

Around eight in the evening, as night fell, the little guy held Raymond's hand, excitedly saying, "Mommy, I had so much fun today!"

At the door, she took the child from him, her expression calm. "Raymond, it's late. Aren't you leaving?"

Sam felt his mom was being a bit harsh and couldn't help but plead.

"Mommy, can Raymond stay for a cup of tea before he goes?"

Seeing how Raymond had spent the day with Sam, Melinda nodded. "Alright, come

in."

She changed into slippers and went into the room, taking a set of pajamas from Sam's closet.

Sam obediently followed her to the bathroom.

After his bath, the little guy ran to Raymond, holding a Rubik's Cube. "Raymond, can you teach me?"

Raymond took the Rubik's Cube, his long fingers moving skillfully, making it come alive in his hands.

His elegant and smooth movements caught Melinda's attention, and within a minute, he had solved all six sides.

As Melinda passed by, tidying up clothes, she couldn't help but be impressed. Why did they look so alike? She hadn't noticed before, but today, watching Sam and Raymond play with the Rubik's Cube, their expressions and techniques were strikingly similar. For a moment, she was dazed, thinking how nice it would be if Sam were Raymond's child.

But the thought quickly vanished.

Melinda snapped back to reality. What was she thinking?

It couldn't be. The man from that night couldn't be Raymond. Emily had confirmed it

herself.

Melinda called out to Sam on the couch, "Sam, it's time for bed."

Sam glanced at the clock on the wall, his cheeks puffing slightly. "Mommy, can I play

for ten more minutes?"

"No, Raymond has work tomorrow. It's already late."

Melinda mainly didn't want Sam clinging to Raymond, hoping he would leave soon.
