Chapter 3: The Island

His Serenity

"He has summoned you back, Sweetie."

"Serenity! Serenity!" a panting young girl ran through the gourd field yelling at the auburn head who was busy picking out the dried seeds from the enormous yellow gourd cut open.

"Sereni- Ahh!" her clumsy feet got tangled with the creeping veins and she stumbled into the muddy ground.

"Butter!" Serenity gasped. She carefully maneuvered towards her ailing friend

"Oh my God! Are you hurt? I told you to not run in this place." she scolded worriedly

"Ouch, ouch, ouch I think my leg just broke. Oh Gosh! Ouch!"

Serenity helped her up by the arm and carefully seated her in an upraised rock. She got down on her knees to check Butter's ankle. There was only a slight discoloration forming at the base, other than that she confirmed she was all fine.

"You didn't break your leg, don't panic. Its a bruise, I will help you ice it at home."

"Really? I am sure I broke it, it hurts..." Butter whined, shaking her head stubbornly

Serenity rolled her eyes at her dramatic friend. "Anyway why were you in a hurry? Did you get into trouble again?"

"Sadly..." Butter smirked, "No"

Serenity could only raised an eyebrow, clearly didn't believing her. Well, Butter was known for only two things in life

1) she was the only daughter of the Chief Kaptan, a tribal leader who ruled a small community of tribe in the Southern part of the Island

2) TROUBLE

"jEEZ, You don't even believe me? Fine! I may or mayn't have broken my mom's chalice?"

Serenity widened her eyes in horror, " Oh you did not! Butter, Aunt J will kill you! I won't save you this time you know."

Butter waved her off as if it wasn't a serious issue," Leave it, your mom is looking for you. She had asked me to get you. I don't know what happened she seemed to be in a hurry. "

''Alright, lets go then." Serenity stood up and looked at Butter who just smiled sheepishly at her. She sighed," You can walk right?"

"A little help would be appreciated." Butter giggled.

Serenity shook her head and proceeded to help her stand up, she draped one arm around Butter's waist, hoisting half of the latter's weight on her petite frame. They began their journey back to mama Dido's little cottage.

Butter knew her best friend belong to one of the most wanted crime families in Europe but it never deterred their bond. Serenity was an angel in disguise. She was soft, kind, passionate and beautiful. Butter did fell a pinch of jealousy at the beginning of their friendship but it wilted away with time.

Serenity never realized how desiring and lovely she was and it only added to her beauty. At first Butter befriended her for popularity. She was already known for being the daughter of Chief Kaptan and she was used to the attention she received from her peers. She felt threatened when Serenity made her appearance in elementary school. All the kids wanted to play with the new girl with angelic features, even Butter's childhood crush Atom seemed drawn to Serenity. Butter instantly forwarded a hand in friendship so she could keep Serenity in check but it so happened that Serenity's kindness and gentle attitude grown onto her and she ended up loving the girl more than she could have thought.

Moreover, Serenity was always there for her. She took care of her in her moment of weakness and she held her when she was lost, in return Butter defended her from jealous bullies and protected her from the lecherous looks of horny immature boys. Serenity was gullible and innocent if it wasn't for Butter by her side, she would have been taken advantage of by the cruel world.

They were true friends despite the difference in their personalities.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Mama, I am home." Serenity announced as she enter her little home. She closed the door behind her before taking off her shoes and sliding into the comfy slippers. The sound of the old radio playing from the kitchen easily gave away Dido's location.

"It smells yummy! What are you making Mama?'' She asked, leaning against the counter.

Dido moved around the kitchen, checking the various dishes she had prepared for their dinner. She smiled warmly at her and replied " Your favorite pasta with Arrabbiata sauce and I am also trying Mrs. Olly's new recipe, here try this." Dido brought a spoonful of mashed red sauce to serenity's mouth. A slight moan escaped her mouth as the bliss settled in her tasting buds. She squealed giving a thumbs up to Dido. Dido laughed at her expression, amused.

"This is so good." Serenity drawled before scooping another spoonful from the bowl.

"But I think..it still needs a little salt."

'Really? well i thought the same too. Lay out the plates Sweetie, I'm almost done." Dido announced.

Serenity glided towards the small dining table efficiently, It was a small round table suitable for a group of three, not like they had guest over for any festive but Butter could be counted as another homie as she spends more time in Dido's cottage rather than her own home. She arranged the culinary and sat down waiting for Dido to serve the dishes. After a short prayer, both of them dig in. Serenity moaned again at the first bite. Mama Dido was the best cook according to her.

'' This is amazing Mama.''

Dido smiled at her childish antics.

There has always been a hole in her ever so perfect life, a painful stinging sensation of never having to hold her own child in her hands. God wasn't merciful on her, she had left the crystal mansion and all the extravagant lifestyles offered by her husband to seek redemption for all her sins. That was one of the main reason why she was living a humble life, serving people so at least she could feel tranquility and move on. Unknowingly the little auburn haired, amethyst eyes she had brought 10 years ago had almost filled that black hole. For the first time, she had felt inner peace when the little child sneaked into her bed one night, during the first few days, and cuddled into her arms because it was cold.

Serenity had let her experienced motherhood and she had cherished every single part of it but sadly all good things always come to an end. Dido felt her heart ached at the thought of letting her little angel go, she wondered how they would treat her there. She was innocent and naïve, Dido feared for the future, even if she knew it was inevitable, she wished she could hide Serenity in her arms forever.

'' sweetie, there is something I wanted to tell you...'' Dido sighed inaudibly.

''Yes Mama,"

Dido smiled sadly and took her soft hands in hers, '' Your Athair is celebrating his 29th wedding anniversary with Victoria in 3 days....''

Serenity froze, she could feel a lump forming at her throat, her insides twisted as she anticipated her Mama's next words. She knew what it was and she was desperately waiting for the past 10 years to hear it. It was the time.....

"He has summoned you back, sweetie."

A tear slipped down her eyes
