Chapter 237
Love’s Cunning Ruse ( Mr.Kieran And Julie )
Chapter 237
Kieranâs guess was correct, and although the men he sent follow Kyleâs whereabouts, they ended up with no information.
Aside from meetings with company staff and partners, Kyle was holed up in his hotel all the time. Kieran and Julie were left in the dark.
At Opulent Skyline Suites, Kyle was lounging on a big leather couch, legs crossed, cradling a gray laptop. He asked Lisa, âAre Kieranâs guys still here?â in a chilly
tone.
âTheyâre still downstairs.â Lisa answered, âMr. Kyle, do we need to get rid of them?â
âNo, did you get any results on what I asked you to look into?â Kyle asked.
Lisa nodded, âMr. Hernandez has been in touch with Professor Fred lately.â
Fred was a world renowned neurosurgeon who had focused on comatose cases for nearly 30 years. Ten years ago, he had a grisly car accident, causing him to lose both his legs. The incident hit him hard, and heâd been in therapy ever since. It wasnât until two weeks ago that he got back on the horse. Before the accident, Fred successfully woke up several patients from a vegetative state using modern treatments and some unique methods.
Kieran reaching out to Fred was likely due to Sansa.
âDoes Julie know about Kieran contacting Fred?â Kyle asked.
Lisa shook her head, âMr. Hernandez probably didnât want to give Ms. Abraham false hope, so he didnât tell her until he was sure Fred could help Sansa.â
âGet in touch with Fred.â Kyle simply said, then got up and left.
Lisa was always good at reading people and understanding their thoughts. Most of the time, she could get what Kyle was driving at, even without a detailed explanation.
But this time Kyle asked her to contact Fred, which made Lisa feel a little confused. âMr. Kyle, do you mean you want Professor Fred to turn down Mr. Hernandezâs request?â
Kyle glanced back at her, his gaze icy.
After a while, he said, âNo, we want him to take Kieranâs request, butâ¦â
He beckoned Lisa over, then whispered something in her ear.
After hearing him out, Lisa turned and left.
Not wanting to disturb Kieranâs work, Julie went straight to Feliz Gastro House after leaving the hospital.
Once Kieran wrapped up his work and grabbed his coat to head to Feliz Gastro House, Karl knocked on his office door.
âWhatâs up?â Kieran opened the door to see Karl standing there.
âProfessor Fredâs assistant called. Theyâve agreed to your terms. The Professor will be flying in tonight and wants to meet with you for dinner tomorrow to discuss, the details.â Karl said.
A week ago, Kieran had reached out to Fred, but there had no response. Kieran even offered to send Sansa to Britain for treatment, but Fred didnât accept the patient.
Yet, a week later, Fred suddenly agreed to treat Sansa and was flying in from Britain. This caught Kieran off guard.
Taking Kieranâs coat, Karl followed him into the elevator and said, âI didnât see that corning. Fred flat-out rejected us when we first approached him.â
âHow did he reject us?â Kieran pressed the elevator button, then turned to Karl.
Karl thought for a moment and said, âHe said he wouldnât take on any more comatose patients unless we threatened his daughter. Apparently, Fred lost his legs because of a paper he wrote on comatose patients.â
âSo, why do you think he suddenly agreed to treat Sansa?â Kieran asked.
âMaybe he had a change of heart?â Karl looked at Kieran uncertainly, confusion written all over his face.
Kieran clearly didnât buy that. Looking at Karlâs reflection on the elevatorâs mirrored walls, he said, âI think itâs more likely that someone threatened his daughter.â
Karl quickly waved his hands, âIâm a straight shooter. I may feel sorry for what happened to Sansa, but Iâd never stoop to kidnapping someoneâs daughter.â
âI wish you were capable of that.â The elevator reached the ground floor and Kieran stepped out.
Catching up to Kieran, Karl asked, âWhat do you mean?â
âWe need to counter his move.â Kieran took his coat back from Karl, âFind out what time Fredâs flight is and pick him up yourself.â
Kieran crossed the street and walked straight into Feliz Gastro House.
Julie was in the office, engrossed in the restaurantâs financial reports from the past two years, oblivious to Kieran at the door.
âWhy not leave this to the finance department?â Kieran approached Julie, dressed in a dark grey sult and a black woolen coat.
Julie looked up at Kieran standing next to her and smiled, âIâm just curious about the restaurantâs earnings these past two years.â She glanced at the time on her computer and looked up at him, âYouâre playing hooky, Mr. Hernandez.â
âYep, might dock my pay.â
Julie chuckled, âI can keep it a secret, but I want something in return.â
âHow about no periods for a year? What about it?â He looked at her fondly and planted a kiss on her forehead, âLetâs go, time to pick up our son from school.
He draped her white coat over her shoulders and walked out of the office with his arm around her.
Julie was about the same height as Kieranâs shoulder, making her look like a little girl standing next to him.
Just as Julie turned to say something to Kieran, she noticed that many of the restaurantâs patrons were snapping pictures of them with their phones, having a field day.
She turned her head, swallowing down her words, then lowered her gaze and quickened her pace. The man behind her, in the moment of leaving the restaurant, opened his coat and directly wrapped his arms around her shoulders, pulling her into his embrace.
The cold wind suddenly felt warm to her, the first cold snap of winter making her feel a bit hot. She reached out and lightly poked the manâs waist, âCan you only see the top of my head from this distance?â
âI can also see your dandruff.â
Julie rolled her eyes.
Peaceful coexistence is still possible, right?
The man, laughing, held her even tighter and asked, âWhereâs your hand?â
She extended her delicate hands, âWhatâs up?â
âWhich hand poked me just now?â He asked.
She immediately put both hands into her pockets, cleverly changing the subject, âWhy didnât I grow taller in high school? I was this tall in middle school, why am I still this height in high school?â
âMaybe because the burden of your crush was too heavy, it bent your spine.â He joked.
Yet, she found it quite reasonable!
As they crossed the street, he suddenly held her hand, their fingers tightly interlaced.
The cold of winter made her hands somewhat chilly, but his palms were warm. He placed her hand in the pocket of his coat and walked towards the parking lot.
The man had long legs and big strides, but walked very slowly, deliberately matching her pace. She looked up at his profile, his smile was captivating.
âWhatâs up? Youâre grinning like an idiot.â
Just as she was about to say he was actually a gentleman, his words made her thoughts flip. She wiped off her smile and said, âIf I werenât an idiot, why would I have fallen for you?â
He thought about it seriously, then nodded, âThatâs true.â
He unlocked the car, suddenly turned to her and asked, âDo you want to drive?â
Looking at the expensive car, and then at the car keys in his hand, she felt a bit uneasy. She wanted to try, but was afraid something might go wrong.
Kieran simply pushed the car keys into her hand and reassured her, âWhat are you scared of? Iâm in the passenger seat.â
After saying that, he already opened the door, sat in the passenger seat, and even fastened his seatbelt.
She thought, one should always learn to be independent. She already had a driverâs license, but she had hardly ever driven.
âWith so many cars at home, you should help me out by driving one of them,â he said, poking his head out of the car window and calling to her, âGet in.â
This time, she didnât hesitate, opened the car door straightaway, adjusted the seat, fastened her seatbelt, and started the car.
Once they had left the garage, she asked Kieran, âWhich way to the school?â
âTurn left.â
âWhich side is left?â
He glanced at her with deep eyes, and she immediately turned the wheel to the left, know which side is left, Iâm just a bit nervous. Tell a joke to lighten the mood!â
Although the car was moving slowly, she felt a bit nervous. She wasnât familiar with the carâs capabilities, and every time a large truck passed by, she would instinctively steer towards the sidewalk.
Kieran quickly grabbed the wheel to prevent an accident.
âAlthough Iâm very rich, I canât use money to replace peopleâs lives, darling, you need to be more careful.â He corrected the position of the steering wheel.
Julie didnât respond, just held the steering wheel tightly and stared at the traffic light ahead. She stepped on the brake and barely avoided running a red light.
However, Mr. Hernandez suddenly lurched forward.
âAre you okay?â Julie looked back at her husband worriedly. She had a strong premonition that this trip wouldnât be smooth sailing.
Kieran shook his head, then looked at the traffic signal ahead, saying, âIâm ready.â
Seeing Kieran holding the steering wheel with one hand, Julieâs smile was uglier than crying.
She stepped on the gas, and the car started moving.
âCan you set up the navigation for me?â Julie asked.
âTurn right in 500 meters, mind your speed. Howâs this for an automated navigation?â He asked.
His voice was already pleasant to listen to, but saying these words was downright distracting!
Julle didnât reply, just focused on driving. Suddenly, at the spot where she was supposed to turn, two black cars closed in from both sides, immobilizing Julieâs car Even a slight deviation of the steering wheel would result in a collision.
âSpeed up!â Kieran suddenly told Julie.
