Chapter 34
The Wife Situation: A Billionaire Age Gap Marriage of Convenience Romance (Billionaire Situation Book 1)
Birthday countdown: 29 days
Since meeting her: 17 days
Company takeover: 36 days
The limo pulls away. Itâs quiet; the streetlights light her face briefly as we pass under them.
âEverything okay?â
âPerfect,â she says with a smile, but I can see her. The real her.
âYouâre a terrible liar.â I shake my head and chuckle.
âIâm a great liar. Youâre better at reading me than most of the population.â
I swipe my thumb across her cheek and meet her eyes. âRaw truths, Lexi. Whatâs going on?â
She sucks in a breath. âI didnât like seeing you with someone else.â
I understand what sheâs going through. I felt the same way last night, when I saw her ex, knowing his mouth had been on hers.
âSays the woman who encouraged me to date others while our arrangement was in order. Am I understanding this correctly?â
âThat was before â¦â she whispers.
âMmm?â I want her to continue that statement.
âBefore I cared,â she says confidently.
âThereâs only you, babe. Youâre it.â I give her a half grin, moving close to her mouth.
Our lips crash together and I fist my hand through her hair.
âWho was she?â
This makes me chuckle. âShe thought I was Weston. I donât recall her name. I warned you about this. It happens frequently.â
âNow, I feel stupid.â A blush hits her cheeks.
âDonât.â I shake my head. âI couldnât handle watching another man touch you, Lexi. If you think Iâd have sat there and watched that â¦â I shake my head. âThe moment he approached you, Iâd have been by your side.â
She smiles. âHelicopter boyfriend.â
âOh, you thought that was acting?â A laugh releases from me. âIâve never had to with you.â
The car rolls to a stop and the door opens. We step out and Lexi looks up at the building.
She laughs, covering her mouth. âEmpire State?â
âAfter you,â I say as we walk through the doors.
Weâre led to the elevators, and we take one to our first stop, then another to the very top. One of the security guards nods at me, and our private guide stands over to the side.
Lexi turns to me. âYou did this?â
âFor us,â I say. âWant to go outside?â
âYes,â she tells me, and I push open the door.
The summer wind surrounds us and she smiles so fucking wide that the whole city sparkles.
She shakes her head. âI canât believe this.â
I press my hand on the small of her back. âAre you happy?â
Her eyes look up into mine, then down to my lips.
âYes. Are you going to kiss me?â she whispers.
I take a step forward, tracing her mouth with mine. âDo you want me to?â
âYes,â she desperately says.
Her hands fist my shirt and I slide my tongue against hers. My name is breathless on her lips as our worlds collapse and crumble together. We will destroy one another.
âFuck, Lexi,â I mutter.
She takes a step back, glancing down at the ring. âWhy didnât you tell me this was your grandmotherâs?â
âI knew youâd find out when it mattered.â
âEastonââher voice is quietââI canât accept this.â
âYouâre being humble.â I tilt my head at her, wishing she knew how priceless time was with her.
âNo.â She twists it around on her finger. âI heard what Weston said. This shouldâve been reserved for her.â
âIt was,â I say without hesitation, knowing damn well the person whoâs meant to have it is wearing it.
She shakes her head and laughs.
âWhy do you think itâs impossible for me to want you? I donât understand.â
âBecause weâre not the same,â she says.
âAh. Explain it to me,â I urge with a smile. âTell me how weâre different. Without the bullshit, Lexi. List the differences that matter.â
Her mouth opens and closes like she understands.
âLast time I checked, we were equals.â
She laughs. âIâm not your equal.â
âYou are,â I say. âSo, start acting like my queen if that makes you believe itâs true. Act like the woman you think I should be with. Because Iâm not sure if youâve noticed, but I just want you. Thatâs it. No one else. Lexi Matthews, the girl who wears graphic tees in public and politely tells people to fuck off. Lexi Matthews, the woman who snores like a princess when sheâs exhausted. Lexi Matthews, the smut queen who also has a weird fucking obsession with billionaire books. I think thatâs who Iâm supposed to be with, but I donât know; youâre convinced thereâs someone else whoâs more deserving of my attention.â
âIâm insecure when it comes to you. I feel like an imposter. Thatâs the truth.â
âAnd you think Iâm not? Babe, I know you donât give two fucks about materialistic things. So, tell me, how do I give a woman everything who doesnât need anything, not even love? Thatâs what Iâm trying to figure out.â
âYouâre right. Things arenât my love language, but experiences are. You know that. Otherwise, I doubt weâd be here. Youâve already got me figured out, and you know exactly what I need and want.â
âThereâs the truth Iâve been searching for,â I say. âWelcome to the party. Itâs fun here, where we donât give a fuck and we can be truthful about whatâs going on.â
She shakes her head.
I check my watch, then meet her eyes. âIâm waiting for you to finish.â
âYou know Iâm falling for you, Easton.â
âOh, I know; I wanted to hear you say it.â
I tilt her chin upward and meet her eyes.
âIn a crowded room, the only person Iâm looking at is you. Youâre the last thing on my mind when I close my eyes at night and the first person I think about when I wake up in the morning. I thought weâd cross the line and Iâd get you out of my system, and things would go back to how they were before I met you, but that didnât happen. Every time you touch or kiss or fucking glance at me, it makes me think about our future.â
She looks out at the city as I steal glances at her. I wish I could read her mind.
âThis wasnât supposed to happen,â she whispers.
âLet me guess ⦠bad timing?â I ask with a laugh.
âAlways. I just ⦠I had aspirations. And it wasnât to be Mrs. Calloway.â
âSo, make your dreams come true. Iâm not stopping you whether you have my name or not.â I shrug. âI believe in you and your dreams, whatever they are.â
Our mouths magnetize toward one another again and I tuck her hair behind her ears.
âIâm serious.â
âI know,â she whispers. âGod, I need you,â she says desperately, and it almost comes out in a plea.
I laugh against her hair. âI kinda like it when you call me God.â
As I drop to my knees, I look up into her eyes.
âThis was written in invisible ink on my bucket list.â She chews on the corner of her lips.
I flip the red skirt of her designer dress over my head. When I see her bare pussy, I rub my face across her.
No panties.
âI was prepared,â she whispers.
âMmm. My bad fucking girl.â
I rub my hand against her thigh, lifting her opposite leg over my shoulder. She willingly gives me access to her beautiful cunt thatâs dripping wet for me. Lexi leans against the wall, and I take my time, worshiping her the way she deserves, exactly how she likes.
My greedy fiancée rocks her hips against my mouth, riding the scruff on my chin.
It doesnât take long before whimpers release from her, and itâs like music to my goddamn ears. I can tell by how she tastes and how her muscles shake with anticipation.
âIâm insatiable for you,â she whispers.
âEnjoy it, darling,â I say, giving her a finger.
Time stops as she teeters on the edge.
âEaston,â she softly cries out, the orgasm bolting through her.
I laugh against her, not stopping until her pussy quits throbbing.
When I pull away, I reposition her dress but stay on one knee. As I look into her eyes, I place my fingers in my mouth. âI fucking love the way you taste.â
She pulls me up toward her and our lips crush together.
âCan we get married tomorrow?â she asks. âJust me and you. Our moment. No one elseâs.â
âAre you serious?â I search her face, needing and wanting confirmation.
She nods. âYes.â
I smile against her lips. âIâd burn the world down for you, Lexi.â
She grabs the lapel of my suit coat. âThatâs what scares me the most.â
âWith great power comes great responsibility.â
âWeâre so fucked.â
I kiss her forehead, and then we finish the circular path around the top before going inside. We hold hands as we ride the elevator down.
A small smile plays on her swollen lips when I meet her hooded eyes. And I realize Iâve never been in love before.
Not until now.
