Neighbors With Benefits: Chapter 59
Neighbors With Benefits: A Reverse Harem Romance
Aiden insisted on hosting Thanksgiving. Not only did he love cooking for people, but he wanted to finally introduce me to his mom and sister.
âAre you nervous?â Cat asked me as we walked next door, carrying two dishes. âTo meet them?â
âYes of course Iâm nervous!â I hissed at her. âWhy wouldnât I be?â
âAre you guys going to tell them⦠everything?â she asked carefully. âOr do they think you and Aiden are a couple? Just the two of you?â
âThey donât know yet,â I replied. âI want Aiden to tell them, but heâs nervous.â
âIâd be nervous,â Cat muttered. âThis is kind of a big deal.â
We let ourselves in, and a cheer went up among the guys. Bash greeted us with hugs, and Dante gave us each a simple fist-bump. That was normal for him though, even without Aidenâs mom and sister being there.
âYou must be the wonderful Jasper Barnes!â said a woman holding two glasses of wine. âCome here and give me a hug. Iâve heard so much about you, I feel like youâre my own daughter!â
âStrong start,â Cat whispered to me.
I hugged her and said, âItâs great to meet you, Mrs. Rush.â
âMy name,â she clarified, âis Tabitha, and I will insist you call me that. Here.â She handed a glass of wine to me, and another to Cat.
âI like her,â Cat said with a big grin.
I met Aidenâs sister, Amy, next. She was tall and waifish, with short-cut dark hair and black-framed glasses. She wasnât as friendly as Tabitha, but she still greeted me like I was family.
âMy brother is quite taken with you,â she said.
âIâm taken with him,â I replied. âIâm going to see if he needs any help in the kitchen.â
Aiden was pulling the turkey out of the oven. I helped him move the baking tray to the counter, and then we wrapped the entire thing in aluminum foil.
âNow it rests for twenty minutes,â he said. âYou brought the mashed potatoes?â
âFreshly mashed!â I replied, kissing him on the cheek. âYour mom loves me.â
âYouâre a lovable woman.â
âAre you still nervous?â
He gave me a look that told me everything.
âShe loves you,â I said, rubbing his back. âSheâll support you no matter what.â
âOr sheâll disown you,â Dante muttered, sticking a finger into my dish of mashed potatoes and licking it off.
I smacked him on the arm. âWeâre trying to be positive right now!â
âAnd Iâm just being realistic,â he said. âYou might want to feel her out a little before you drop a bomb on her at a major holiday.â
âWeâll see,â Aiden said, but I could see the conflict swirling in his eyes.
I took my wine back out into the living room, where Bash was flipping through the TV channels. âTrying to find the football game?â I asked.
âDante refuses to watch the Cowboys,â Bash explained. âSo Iâm trying to find something else to put on in the background.â
âStop! Right there!â Cat suddenly said. âThatâs The Mummy. Letâs watch that.â
Amy swirled wine around in her glass and sighed happily. âThis movie was very important to my teenage development.â
Cat barked a laugh. âIâll say. Seeing this movie in theaters was when I had my bisexual awakening.â
Amy gave her a sideways glance. âSame. When I realized I couldnât decide who I was attracted to more, Brendan Fraser or Rachel Weisz, I knew.â
Cat turned to face her directly. âYes! I spent months fantasizing about both of them. The first girl I dated looked like her, too.â Cat leaned in a little closer. âKind of like, you actually.â
I gawked at them from the other side of the room. Were they hitting it off?
âThe answer, by the way, is Rachel Weisz,â Amy said. âThatâs who I would choose. But only barely.â
Cat was grinning. âI would swim through a river of her piss just to see where it came from.â
âCat!â I hissed.
But Amy was covering her mouth to keep from laughing so hard. Cat reached out and touched her arm, saying, âSorry, I donât really have a filter.â
âI can tell,â Amy said.
Aiden came marching out of the kitchen. âWait a second. Amy? Youâre bisexual?â
âI consider myself pansexual,â she replied. âBut yes.â
âI never knew this! You never told me!â
Amy raised an eyebrow. âWhy on earth would I tell my baby brother that?â
Aiden turned to his mom. âDid you know about this?â
âOf course I did,â she replied bluntly. âShe made it obvious since the second grade. Iâm surprised you didnât know. Her friend Nelly was always at our house in high school.â
âHe was too busy ogling Nelly,â Amy said with a smile, âto realize what we were doing.â
âYou dated Nelly?â Aiden demanded. âI had a huge crush on her!â
âI know. Thatâs what made it so funny.â
Amy and Cat fell apart into laughter, leaning on each other while enjoying Aidenâs shocked incredulity. I shared a look with Dante, who was laughing too. We were never going to let him live this down.
âHear me out,â Cat told Amy. âWhy choose between them? The obvious solution is to have a throuple with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.â
She glanced at me for a heartbeat. Why was she looking at me?
âThat might be the best throuple in the world,â Amy agreed.
Tabitha stepped up beside me and shook her head. âNow thatâs something I canât wrap my head around. Throuples? Those would never work. Women get too jealous. And men donât like sharing their toys. Just pick somebody! I donât understand why everyone has to be so different nowadays.â
âI⦠had better go check on the turkey,â Aiden said curtly.
I watched him go back into the kitchen. Bash gave me a pained look, and even Dante seemed to wince.
Thatâs when I realized what Cat was doing. She mentioned the throuple as a way of broaching the polyamorous subject with Tabitha. An innocent way to see how Aidenâs mom felt about the whole thing. And it had worked.
The only problem was her answer.
