Tempting - Chapter 21: Look Who's Waiting

Tempting (Man x Man)

I stalk back to my office, feeling ease that the mystery man Mr. Hamsure was no where to be

seen. People were already shuffling around the printers and the glass lounges, heavy with

papers. I should also start on the lode that's probably overflowing in my office.

I open my door, wondering what I should do with the food when it arrives when I see a

woman with purple hair sitting in the chair in front of my desk. She snaps her neck around as my

heart turns cold and freezes.

"Oh wow, its a surprise you're still here." I can't form words yet as Chelsy slowly stands up,

crossing her arms over her thin frame.

"So I'm just going to get to the point, you've been coming out of Mr. Malone's office left and right, almost everyday you've been here. So what the hell is your deal huh? Doughboy?" She

jests, walking up to me and closing the door behind me. Oh my god, this can't be happening.

I feel my hands shake as she stares me down intensely, wanting me to break, to shatter into a

million pieces like glass.

"You don't think I know what you've been doing? Its obvious!"

"I-I don't-"

"Its obvious that you've been blackmailing Mr. Malone with something." Wait, what?

"I don't know what you want, but If you think that's going to work, you've got another thing coming. I've been working with Mr. Malone longer then anyone here and this isn't the first time I've wintnessed him be blackmailed. Each time he comes up on top, just realize that before you make the wrong person mad."

"Chelsy I-I haven't been blackmailing anyone." I try to combat, but she just rolls her eyes exaggeratedly while sighing.

"I wasn't born yesterday. He won't give you whatever you're looking for so stop asking, unless you want everyone to know your secret."

I gawk at her in disbelief as she strides her way past me. Okay, that just happened. I let out a long shaky breath as I rewind her daunting words in my head.

At this rate I won't be able to see David even at work since she's paying a little too much attention to me. I scratch my head leaning back in my chair, wondering how I'll divert this problem when I hear another knock on my door.

Groaning silently, I ask "Who is it?".

"There's a order for Calvin? I was instructed for it to get delivered here." The man answers. Great, another thing I have to deal with.

I open the door and grab the bag with shaky hands, whispering a thank you before walking back to my desk.

----------------------------------------------------

I've decided to throw away the chicken salad in the bin outside of the building.

The end of my shift finally arrives, but I don't feel any relief at all. Well, except for the fact I get to

be miles away from Chels for a few days. As I place my strap over my shoulders I also realize

another impending doom is slowly inking its way towards me. I have to go with Elizabeth out to

a club with a few of her friends.

Why didn't I say no?

I take out the phone David bought for me and head out the door, seeing staff pulling their things

together for a relaxing weekend. My eyes fall on Ms. Collete, who was currently talking to David

by the snack stand next to the elevator. They're laughing about something, but the way Ms. Collete's acting around was . A little tinge of jealously, like a match, sparks in my mind as I watch

her place her hand on his arm. The fire spreads as he doesn't move it but instead gives her a

slight smile.

"Oh, Calvin!" Elizabeth steps out in front of me as I try to calm myself down.

"Hey, just reminding you about tomorrow. We're going to start arriving there at 9 pm. We've decided to go the new artsy club called Pascalle Ink. It's right down the street from here, you won't miss it."

I nod, feeling a lumbering weight on my shoulders. She smiles.

"Alright, see you there. Have a good night!"

"Uh, you too."

My eyes drift back to where Ms. Collete and David was, but they're not there anymore. Where

could they have gone? No, no, get it together. David doesn't like her in that way, she's his

employee, nothing more, nothing less... I'm his employee as well...

I bite my lip as a familiar sinking feeling like quick sand starts to pull me under. As all my

colleagues start to shuffle to the elevator and doors, I gradually walk to the hallway leading to

David's door. I know this is wrong. Why am I even here? I can't just go snooping, what if he finds

out?

But one foot after another I stalk towards the ashen door, feeling the paint under my finger tips. I

press my balls of my knuckle on the smooth surface before pounding. After a few moments the door opens abruptly, almost so fast that I stumble forward.

"Calvin?" He asks, his bright eyes scanning my face. I feel my cheeks redden as I realize Ms. Collete is sitting in front of his desk, looking back at us with a scowl.

"Sorry, but I'm having a meeting right now."

"Oh. I'm sorry I was just-"

"Don't you know not to knock on Mr. Malone's door without the assistant's permission or his okay?" Ms. Collete seethes as she stands up, earning a annoyed sigh from David.

"Right Mr. Malone?"

"Yes, you are right Ms. Collete. *sigh* We will discuss this later Calvin, but for now I am I'm currently in a meeting. Whatever you have to say to me can wait or be done over email."

I look back at Ms. Collete and my heart spikes when she exposes a slight smirk before going back

to her stern expression. David gradually closes the door before its completely shut, and I can't

help but frown deeply. Why did she smirk like that? What is she doing with him?

I walk back to the open area as I continue to think back on it. No, I bop myself on the forehead.

Stop it Calvin! You're only making it harder for yourself.

With that I walk on the elevator, pressing the button for the lobby.

Switch P.O.V

"Have you found anything about that man yet." I balance my phone between the crook of my

shoulder with a newspaper exhibiting 'Today's Cross Puzzle' in my hands. I click my tongue

with a annoyed expression as my hire bares the bad news through the receiver.

"Nothing yet Mr. Hamsure, he still hasn't left the building."

"Are you sure? Make sure you keep a steady eye on him! We won't have a lead if you lose him!"

"Relax, I'm at the front of the building. If he had left I would've seen."

Silence envelopes my office as I continue the mind boggling puzzle, my afternoon

conversation with Mr. Malone leaving a heated tinge in my mind. Who does he think he is? Telling

me that I should've talked to an assistant to see him. Me! Wait till we find more information on

your little boy...

"Actually, I saw the bumbling fool in Mr. Malone's office today. His face was as red as roses, they couldn't have just been having a meeting."

"Well, if I can get evidence on that you will be able to prove it."

"... Make sure to keep a close eye on him. And when I say every detail, I mean EVERY. Come back to me with something I can use." I shut the phone, turning towards my gargantuan window that

lays way to a magnificent view of the skyline. I'm so close, I can taste it.
