Tempting - Chapter 37: Was It Something I Said?

Tempting (Man x Man)

Calvin POV

I place my hands on my lap as David continues to switch through the downloaded movies on his

bedroom television: A flat screen dark tv taking up half of his ivory colored walls. He had told me

previously that he wanted me to experience an actual movie night, so he's decided to put one

on. I think its sweet, but at the same time I don't want to force him into doing something he

doesn't want to.

In the midst of this my stomach growls slightly, my monster within again purring for more food

while I subconsciously ignore it. Unfortunately, David has the ears of a lion.

"You're hungry?"

"Um... well kind of. But I'm fine for now I think-"

"What do you want to eat?" He stands up from my side and stretches, evidence of our previous

activity still staining his pants. I blush slightly as I see it. His shirt was still off and I can't help but

roam my eyes hungrily over his attire. I still can't believe what I did. The experience keeps

playing in my mind like a broken record, but at the same time it feels like a dream I thought

I couldn't reach. Being so close to him like that... it was almost everything.

I didn't realize that he was still waiting for my reply as he continues his questioning expression.

"Oh! Sorry, I was... uh... s-soup will be fine."

"Soup?" He asks with a raised eyebrow,

"What type?"

"Uh-" I think back to the soup Mr. Hamsure had made me, but it also brings back memories of

the kiss we shared... Again, annoying heat embraces my face. Come on Calvin! Now is not the

time to think about that, especially in front of David.

"C-Chicken, with some... I don't know... vegetables?"

"Okay. Well what type of vegetable?"

"Any."

To my surprise, a smirk grows over David's face so erratically that I thought he was holding back

a chuckle.

"Any?" He says, humor in his voice.

"Yeah. Why is that funny?"

"Well I just haven't heard anyone say that. They'd usually say 'surprise me' with desserts or meals, but vegetables?"

A smile plays on my lips as well.

"I don't think its that funny." I try to challenge.

"I think its funny." David mutters indifferently as he starts the movie. He then turns away from

me and walks towards his phone table, calling who I assume is the deliverer. Again that

involuntary feeling hits my chest like a dagger through wood. Also the thoughts. Did I mess

something up again? He seemed to close off when I said that, maybe I offended him? Why do I

keep ruining a perfect moment?

I sigh slightly as I graze my finger over his silky crimson bed spread. I don't want things to turn

out like the last time I was here. I want to come out of this being closer to him. I am able to sever

from my thoughts for just a moment to hear David talking through the receiver.

"Yes, the usual for me. I also want some soup...Chicken with vegetables... Surprise me... Yes yes that will be al- Oh yes, just bring me a diet coke and cherry soda. Alright, see you in a bit."

He sets the head piece down with a click as he walks back over to me, sitting down on his

previous spot. Did I just hear him order a cherry soda? Those have so much sugar in it, I thought

he was going to get me flavored sparkling water bu-

"Hey, are you alright?" David asks concerned. He grabs my trembling hand as I

look up at him sheepishly with a fake grin.

" Of course! Everything's fine. Thanks... for the meal."

"No problem." He kisses my cheek lightly and pulls away, propping himself up on his elbow.

"By the way, you're going to love this movie."

"Really?" A short woman with a large bow in her blonde frilly hair is skipping through some sort

of market in the movie, probably about to find her true love. Romance movies have never really

been my thing growing up.

"Yes, in my opinion there's nothing like it. I read the book version as well and its way better then any other novel I've read before. But the movie has just the right amount of romance, drama, and theatrics. I used to watch this all time with Brando-" He suddenly cuts himself off.

"*cough* I used to watch this movie all time growing up."

"That's nice." I squeeze out as to not let the tension devour me whole. I've only recently found

out about David's deceased past lover and how much he meant to him. I could see the physical

pain on David's face when he accidentally brought him up, so I won't encourage him to talk

about it any further. I don't want to hurt him.

"Well, it looks good already. Its nice that you're showing me this."

"Of course."

--------------------------------------------------------------

I've got to say, I've seen worse. But at the same time, it had to be the most corniest and

cheesiest movie I've ever watched in my entire life. A man wanting this woman's hand in

marriage only to be blocked by her parent's foreboding authority which in turn leads them to

running away to live the rest of their lives together... Have I said enough?

I have to willfully try not to yawn as the credits finally start rolling down the

screen. The afternoon glow in the pinkish sky gradually starts to melt bellow the horizon, and all

I see through David's window is a dark peach color. The bowl of soup which is half eaten is left

on the side of me, accompanied with the soda I didn't even open. Thankfully, David hasn't asked

about it.

When I look over to him I see him slowly stretching his arms above him, a satisfied grin on his face.

"Never gets old." He murmurs. I'm glad he's happy. I rarely see David smile as it is.

"What did you think of the movie Calvin?"

"It was... interesting." At the end of my comment David excited expression slowly starts to

deteriorate, as If I said something wrong.

"Uh, no! I mean it in a good way. It was a really good movie."

"You don't seem to like it."

"I do... I l-liked the part when they f-finally got together at the end."

"Calvin I can tell when you're lying so there's no need to do it with me."

"But I-"

"I don't care if you like the movie or not." David jests. He turns slightly, sitting there for a

moment before standing up and turning off his Television. Where did that reaction come from?

My heart sinks as I watch him brush a hand over his dark locks, a potent feeling of hurt filling me.

I thought I was doing all the right things. What did I do?

Suddenly the sound of knocking emits around the room and David sighs incredibly, placing his

hands on his hips.

"Mr. Malone, are you in here?"I can hear a southern accent on the other end of the door as I look

up wide eyed at David.

"Yes Jasmine, I'm in here. Give me a mome-"

As he's walking over for his shirt, the door abruptly swings open, revealing Jasmine handling a

small beige Pomeranian in one arm, and a plastic bag in the other. Oh my god, oh my god, OH

MY GOD. I lunge for the opposite side of the bed as David grunts with annoyance.

"Oh... Oh! I'm sorry I didn't know you had company in here!"

"Can't you wait Jasmine?" David barks.

"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to make you upset, I was just excited to tell you that the screening for little Diesel here went well enough... well that is when she wasn't trying to bite off the heads of the people working there."

"Thats great... Now leave the room please."

"Oh right, well sorry to intrude. And uh, Calvin was it? Yeah sorry to you too." She apologizes

awkwardly as I hear the door slowly close with a shutter.

A moment goes by before David says "You can come out now" as he's pulling his shirt over his

broad shoulders.
