Chapter 31
When the Boss’ Lady Became His Sister-in-law
Chapter 31
No one has ever taken her side all these years, not even half a word of justice
No matter how much she struggled, screamed, or fought back, it was useless. No one was listening
She felt like a stomped on flower in the mud, too beaten down for another struggle. But Rhettâs words somehow managed to stir her longâdormant heart
âRhett I mean, no, it wasnât like that She wasnât in cahoots with her mom then. It was later when she and her mom plotted to scam my familyâs moneyâ Rattled by Rhettâs intense gaze, Ruby stuttered through her words.
Rhettâs presence was overwhelming.
Rhett didnât bother with Ruby anymore and walked straight up to Kristin. âCarey was not here. so I had her bring me a glass of water. Got a problem with that?â
Vincent looked at Rhett in surprise. The words were understandable, but Rhett coming to Kristinâs defense like this was out of character.
This wasnât like the Rhett he knew. Why would Rhett stick his neck out for a woman like
Kristin?
It only made Vincentâs jealousy more intense.
âVincent, youâve got some nerve to raise a hand against a woman,â Rhett said, anger flaring
he saw the swollen handprint on Kristinâs pale face.
Vincent clenched his fists, unwilling to admit he had hit Kristin.
Rhettâs face darkened, and with a low and threatening voice, he demanded, âApologize!â
Shocked again, Vincent wondered why he should apologize.
âThis kind of woman is trashy. Iâ¦â
Bam! Before Vincent could finish, Rhettâs fist connected with his face. Vincent stumbled backward, struggling to keep his balance.
âVincent!â Ruby ran over, dumbfounded, helping him up.
Vincentâs cold eyes met Rhettâs. He cursed inwardly, âDamn it! He did it on purpose, definitely on purpose!â
Rhett didnât meddle in othersâ business. He must be doing this to get back at him for secretly contacting Mr. Bryce, a warning not to pull any stunts at the company.
After a long moment, Vincent took a deep breath. âRhett ⦠I realize I was wrong.â
Rhett frowned at Vincent, wondering how the FitzGerald family could raise someone so lacking in manners. âIs it me you should be apologizing to?â

Chapter 31
âSorryâ¦â Vincent felt humiliated by Rhett, his apology to Kristin through gritted teeth.
Kristin sat on the ground, going dazed, and felt addicted to this feeling of someone having
her back.
So, Rhett shouldnât have gotten involved.
Slowly getting up, Kristin covered her cheek and walked away.
She was too fragile, too thin as if a gust of wind could blow her away.
Rhett glanced at Kristin and turned his cold gaze on Vincent. âDidnât your mother ever teach you manners?â
Vincent clenched his teeth. Rhett was humiliating him and his mother. He knew Rhett had never respected him or his mother because she wasnât born into high society but had risen as a mistress.
Rhett had never taken him seriously.
âStay away from the company for a while. Reflect on your actions at home!â Rhett warned. him and left, not wanting to spend another moment there.
Since Vincentâs mother entered this home pregnant, it was no longer Rhettâs home.
After Rhett left, Vincent went mad, smashing things in the room.
âWho the hell does he think he is to boss me around?â he shouted.
âVincentâ¦â Ruby hugged Vincent, scared.
âIâll trample him underfoot one day. The FitzGerald familyâs wealth and company will be mine, and then Iâll see how Rhett can be so arrogant!â Vincent was seething with rage.
âItâs all Kristinâs fault. She did it on purpose. She got close to Rhett to drive a wedge between you two to make trouble for the Turner and FitzGerald families. Sheâs so cunning. She knows she can only turn to Rhett for help in Silvergrove City, so sheâs here for revenge.â
Ruby started crying. âVinny, what if Rhett keeps protecting Kristin, and she wonât donate her kidney to me?â
âShe wouldnât dare!â Vincent was furious. âRhett wouldnât even give her a second glance!â
In Vincentâs mind, Rhett was just seizing this opportunity to kick up a fuss. As for Kristin, she was as manipulative and deceptive as ever.
He wouldnât let her off the hook the following day.
âVinny, letâs get her married off to the butlerâs son as soon as possible. Thatâll save us future trouble,â Ruby schemed.
Vincent nodded. âYouâre right.â
On the roadside, Kristin didnât dare go home as the slap marks on her face were still visible.
She walked slowly, her ankle still throbbing with pain.
âGet in.â
A black car stopped by the roadside, and the speaker was Rhett.
