Chapter 6
When the Boss’ Lady Became His Sister-in-law
Chapter 6
âWhat are you doing here? Kris has done five years. Isnât that enough to penance? What more do you want?â Garner stood protectively before Kristin, fury burning in his eyes as he stared at
Vincent.
âPenance?â Vincent laughed. âHow will she repay what she owes me? Maybe I should be off this little bastard?â
Kristin looked at Vincent, terrified. She knew he wasnât joking.
Falling to her knees in fear, Kristin begged lowly and helplessly. âVincent, Iâll do whatever you guys want. Please let me go and give me a few days. Please. Iâm begging you.â
All she wanted was to return and spend some time with her kid.
Couldnât she even have that for a few days?
âKris! Get up! He doesnât have the guts to do anything to us.â Garner looked at Kristin with distress.
She wasnât like this before. The Kristin of the past was like a white rose grown in a greenhouse
but at the timeâ¦
âReally? You think I donât have the guts to do anything to you?â Vincent laughed. âGarner, do you live under a rock or something?â
With a flick of his hand, Vincentâs bodyguards rushed forward, landing a punch on Garner.
Garner was tall and tough from years of construction work and could handle himself.
But Vincent had the numbers. Five bodyguards against one, and soon Garner was on the losing.
side.
*Stop! Vincent, Vincent, Iâm begging you. Please stop,â Kristin cried, kneeling before Vincent, pleading for him to stop the beating. âIâll do whatever you want me to do. Please spare my brother, please.â
âDonât beg him!â Garner shouted uncontrollably, trying to save Kristin, but he couldnât shake off the bodyguards. âIf heâs got the guts, let him beat me to death.â
âI can do whatever I want to you, huh?â Vincent gripped Kristinâs chin. âYouâre a slut, arenât you?â
âDonât touch my mom!â Summer lunged forward, sinking his teeth into the back of Vincentâs hand.
Vincentâs eyes darkened, and he raised his hand to strike the little bastard kid.
âSmack!â The slap didnât land on Summerâs face but on Kristinâs.
Kristin pulled Summer close, watching Vincent with vigilance and anger. âDonât lay a finger on

my son.
The Vincent before her at the time truly disgusted her. What disgusted her even more was that she had once loved this man for many years.
After seeing Kristin protecting the bastard child, Vincentâs anger intensified. âKristin, wonât you tell me who that guy is till now? The one who fathered this bastard youâre so protective of!â
Vincent hated that Kristin would never tell him who the childâs father was.
âKristin held Summer tightly, both of them appearing as animals, coiled and ready to strike at any given moment.â
Seeing Kristin silent, Vincent grew angrier. âTake them both back with us!â
âKris! Summerâ¦â Garner tried to intervene but got knocked out cold by a bodyguardâs club.
âGarner!â Kristin screamed, trying to rush to him, but she got forcibly shoved into the car.
Vincent was right. They were no match for power and influence.
In this life, they would be trampled underfoot.
The car stopped before the FitzGerald Mansion. Kristin clutched Summer tightly, eyeing Vincent warily. âWhat are you going to do?â
âYouâre not going anywhere for a month. Stay put and get your strength back. After one month, youâre donating a kidney to Ruby,â Vincent said, getting out of the car and shaking off the blood from Summerâs bite. âDamn, this little bastard.â
âMr. FitzGerald, did you notice it?â The driver got out, whispering into Vincentâs ear. âThe kid looks a bit like you.â
Vincent was stunned, glancing back at the stubborn child in the car.
There was a resemblance to the FitzGerald family, indeed.
But Vincentâs expression quickly darkened again, warning the driver coldly, âYou talk too much!â Vincent knew he had never touched Kristin. When he and Kristin were dating, he treated her like a treasure, planning not to lay a finger on her until marriage. Instead, she couldnât stand the loneliness and had slept with other men!
âGet out!â The nanny tried to get Summer out of the car, but the kid refused to budge like a little wolf cub.
Losing patience, the nanny raised her hand to hit Summer, but he bit her instead.
âYou little beast, you dare bite me!â The nanny grabbed a broom to hit Summer.
Kristin instinctively shielded the child in her arms, taking the blow to her back. It hurt, but she was used to it.

âWhatâs all this noise?â
On the second floor of the FitzGerald Mansion, a man stood on the balcony with a deep voice.
The nanny turned around in a panic, apologizing. âMr. Rhett, Iâm sorry. I was out of line, disturbing your rest.â
Rhett frowned, his gaze falling on Vincent.
âBrother⦠what are you doing back home?â Vincentâs heart tightened. Rhett hardly ever returned to this house, but why today?
âWhat? I canât come home?â Rhett questioned coldly.
Vincent quickly bowed his head. âI didnât mean that.â
Everyone in Silvergrove City knew the FitzGerald family wasnât just any family one could latch onto, and the whole FitzGerald family relied on Rhett.
The man, whether in capability or family background, was someone that no one in Silvergrove City dared to mess with.
Inside the car, Kristinâs fingers tensed around her child. Why did that voice resonate with such familiarity?
