Mike flashed a grin at Makayla. "Why are you here so early?" He thought Elijah would be the one walking through the door.

"I'm here to apologize to Violette, Rita, and Ian," Makayla said, her voice clear and strong. "My brother and I were late last night. That's on us."

"Makayla, they don't need your apology. The one who owes them an apology is Elijah," Mike said, walking over with a hot cup of milk.

"My brother will be here to apologize later," Makayla's cheeks turned pink, "I just couldn't wait, so I come here first."

Mike laughed, "This isn't your fight, Makayla. You don't need to apologize or beat yourself up."

Makayla disagreed, "My brother took me to a new doctor yesterday. The doctor lives far away, and it takes a long drive to get there... If it wasn't for me, he wouldn't have been late."

Just then, Rita walked out from the dining room. "Makayla, is everything you said true?" Rita's eyes were still puffy from crying the night before.

After Mike and Ian left, Rita ran back to her room to get the gift she prepared for Makayla.

Makayla was over the moon receiving the gift. She also took out the gift she prepared for Rita from her bag. The gift Makayla gave Rita was a brand new hairpin. Rita was so happy that she forgot about the upset from the night before.
