Chapter-13

Demon in Ruins (Dark Choices #1)✔

-Previously in DiR-

"We can never be friends again." I said loudly. "Go to your room, Karen."

She was hurt. Her eyes were filled with tears that were fighting to make their way out. She was still holding on. She was brave actually. I had bitten her, and she was talking to me right now. She should have left me alone forever. I had been a monster to her and she was expecting to be friends with me.

I looked at her neck, searching for the wound. The wound was light. Victor might have fed his blood to her to save her life.

"Nate—" She started.

"I said go away."

I shut the door at her face. I hated to hurt her but there was no other way to make her stay away. I had to send her back into her world. I had to.

Chapter-13

-Karen-

"And he shuts her off." Comment a voice from behind.

I turned and saw Victor smiling down at me. He was looking his usual self. He was leaning on the wall. I hated to admit how handsome he looked when he smirked. His grey eyes were fixed on me intently. I felt exposed to his intense eyes.

"What, are you writing a book now?" I asked sarcastically, walking towards my room.

Nate had ordered me to go back to my room. What did he think of himself? He was a prince of a mansion but I was not one of his servants. He was the one who had hurt me, physically and I was the one who had come to see him if he was okay. Wow! How ironic!

"Yeah, the book is a supernatural fiction. A love story. Between a boring, not-so-good-looking vampire and a beautiful young lady." Sarcasm never passed by him. "And there is a charming, sardonic and very great looking brother who is also a vampire, looking for a chance to woo that young lady. But she has a bad taste in men."

"Why don't you shut up?" I asked, trying not to smile at his joke.

"Because I've a mouth." He said smirking.

I made a face and continued to walk.

"Why don't we go out?" He asked.

"With you I'm never safe." I said back.

"Says the girl whose life I saved after giving my blood." He pouted. "Do you know how much a glass of blood costs these days?"

"Ewww! I don't want to know." I said. He was making me gag. "Can you take me to my world?"

He gave me a thoughtful look. I wished he would consider my plea once. Just once. I wanted to see my parents again. What explanation could Jon give for my disappearance? I wanted to meet Jon too. Oh! I wanted to get out of here.

"I don't think so, young lady." He said finally.

I knew what his answer was going to be but I had a little faith alive.

"You know, you are lucky that I'm in a good mood today." He said, his eyes turning greyer.

"What would have you done if you weren't?" I dared to ask him.

"I would have taken some blood from you." He said. "Your blood is intoxicating. Remember the first time we met?"

Of course I remember. How could I forget the most disgusting moment of my life?

He had licked the blood on my lips. Yuck! What was he thinking while doing that?

"I wish to never remember it." I spat.

"But you do, alright." He said smirking. "It is not easy to forget a charming vampire when he is near you."

He moved himself closer to me. His eyes were now placed on my lips. I looked at his blood red lips. All of sudden, the gravity shifted to his lips. They were waiting to be kissed. There was nothing in the entire world like his lips. His lips parted and I moved closer to him. My head arched back slightly and I waited for him to kiss me.

"Whoa! I still can hypnotize." He laughed.

The spell broke. I moved away from him, pushing him on the chest. He didn't move but I did.

"What the hell?" I screamed. "Don't you ever dare to do such a thing!"

"Hey, calm down. I was testing my powers." He said trying to catch my arm from hitting his chest again and again. He was ready to take the blows but he stopped me. His cold hands clutched my arms softly. "What did you feel?"

"I felt need to—" I stopped. This was amusement to him, nothing else.

"Kiss me?" He asked. "I knew it! You are interested in me."

"In your dreams."

"I don't dream, Karen." He mused.

"Let me go." I said.

He let go of my arms and smirked. He leaned on the wall and nodded his head.

"I just hypnotized you to do what you wanted to do the most at this time." He said. "And look, you wanted to kiss me."

"You are lying." I said. There was no way I wanted to kiss him let alone be near him. "You're a liar."

I walked towards my room and he moved swiftly to the door of my room. I was tired of these people having powers and being a mere human in-between all of them. God, gift me some powers and I'll show them what I'm worth of.

"Are you scared of me?" He asked.

"Are you crazy?"

"Well, depends on the situation." He said. "Are you scared?"

I thought about it for some minutes. Was I scared of Nate or him? Obviously not. They could have killed me a long ago if they wanted to. But they didn't kill me. What was there to be scared of? I wasn't afraid of anyone. I could fight them if I wanted to.

Tapping his foot on the ground, Victor waited for my answer. I knew he would be happy if I told him I was scared of him but I was not going to give him such a big happiness ever.

"No, I'm not scared of you." I said.

"Even if I can kill you with a single snap of your neck?" He asked.

He had a point. He could kill me if he wanted to. Did that scare me?

"I'll wake up as a vampire then." I said jokingly.

"Oh my innocent Karen, the blood in your veins which I injected some hours ago effects only for one hour or so to make you a vampire." He said. "If I kill you now, you wouldn't wake up as a vampire but I can try to create a zombie if you like."

"No thanks." I scoffed. "I'm happy as a human."

He smirked.

"I bet we make a good team, Karen." He said before walking away.

I wanted powers. I wanted to become Wonder Woman or Black Widow or even a suit like Iron Man's would work at this time to hit Victor.

I opened the door to my room and sat on the bed, thinking if I would ever go back.

Having no mobile phones, televisions and laptops killed me from inside. I couldn't read books all the time, for my sake. This place had an aversion to technology and electronic devices, maybe because this was the alternative world where only supernatural things were allowed. Only some of the servants were humans. Most of them were vampires with long fangs and red eyes. What was the use of being human when they talked and worked like robots? They were under great magic.

I took a hot water shower and ate what was served on the table of my room. The food was delicious. I wondered if the vampire family found it delicious in the same way I did. But they only fed on blood. I had seen them eat food on the table with masked expressions on their face. Victor was never there to eat human food. He was an interesting and frustrating specimen at the same time.

I looked out of the opened window and sighed in despair.

There was a soft knock on the door. I sighed loudly to show my boredom. If it was Victor again, I was not letting him in. But then, Victor wouldn't knock.

"Come in," I said.

It felt like I was a boss in some office and someone was asking for permission to come in the room.

"Karen." The deep voice said.

"I'm not talking to you, Nate." I said to him.

"I'm here to apologize to you for my behaviour some hours ago." He looked down at his shoes. "I deserve to be treated this way but sorry for how I behaved to you Karen."

Hearing an apology from him left a burden on my heart. It was so earnest and honest. He meant it when he said he was sorry. So, I forgave him.

"I forgive you." I said simply.

"You forgive me?"

"Yes, I did." I said looking at his sad, handsome face. The monster was long gone. It could return but I was not afraid. "You bit me pretty hard, by the way."

He took my joke rather seriously.

"I'm so sorry, Karen. I was not thinking at that time." He said. "Your blood was so alluring and I couldn't stop myself. I had been starving for many days. I'm sorry."

"Hey, I forgave you." I said. "I'm not angry. No need to ask for apology."

He looked at me and then his fangs came out.

I gasped. Was he going to drink my blood again?

"A monster with fangs, that's what I've become." He said sadly. "I was not like this earlier."

"What happened to you?" I asked breathing out.

"I can explain." He said.

Then he began the story.

-Nate-

Kate was changing. Into a werewolf.

The girl I loved was a werewolf. Then again what was I? I was a vampire too. How were she and I going to explain this to each other?

I walked towards her without any fear. She was a beast now, but I wasn't scared of her.

She had black fur. She raised her head to acknowledge me and started to run away.

"Kate, stop there." I called.

She stopped on those enormous paws. She turned her head and her eyes met mine. They were enchanting as always. Black and bigger. I could see my own reflection in her eyes.

"You are not going to hurt, are you?" I asked.

The beast shook its head. I extended my hand and touched the soft fur on the forehead. Like a tame dog, it closed its eyes.

"You did not tell me that you are a vampire," She said. "I didn't tell you I'm a werewolf. That makes us even."

"It's not easy as it seem, Kate." I said shaking my head. "Our kinds are at war."

"Then stop it."

"I can't." I said. "Father had ordered to finish the entire race if they again hurt anybody."

Kate adjusted her sitting position on the grass ground and looked at me.

"Tell him all of us not dangerous."

"Why did they kill two vampires some days ago?"

"They attacked our people."

"Impossible!"

"You don't trust me?"

"Yes, I do but why would they do so?"

"I don't know. They attacked some people from our village and they killed them while protecting their family."

"I will inform this to father." I said.

Protecting their families was not a crime. If I had to protect my family, I would have killed anyone who hurt them.

She smiled brightly. Her eyes twinkling with shine. The two orbs being the centre of attention for me. Kate was beautiful. No girl could ever take her place, never look like her and never a man could earn such a smile from anyone.

"What will you do when Lord Valentino speaks his orders?" She asked innocently. "Will you fight?"

I looked at her and smiled, engulfing her into a warm hug.

"Yes," I breathed. "I will fight for you."

A/N Victor I hate you less now :P

To know more about the orders from Lord Valentin, you've to wait for the next chapter.
