Chapter 54 War of gifts

"Why should I do this?" Alex whined every time they ordered him to arrange the decorations.

"There are people out there to help for such work." Alex was now stubborn.

"It's your wife's birthday. And it would be special if you do this." Rose glared at her brother as she gave him the tablecloth and some balloons too. Alex was as grumpy as anyone could imagine.

"I highly doubt she would even like this," Alex mumbled as he somehow could guess that Clara is not like those types of girls who would be happy with expensive things. If they just buy a cake with a candle, she would be happy.

"Did you buy her anything?" Rose asked, raising her eyebrows. From his expression itself, she knew that he didn't buy anything. Rose glared at her brother with a scoff and the best husband award goes to Mr Alexander.

"I love you" Before Alex could answer, Sandy came there with flowers and wished Rose with a kiss on the cheeks, making the sibling burn in anger.

"My Employee is online in WhatsApp. As per your list of threats, you asked me to tell you I love you whenever my employees are around. That's why." Sandy smirked at Rose, showing who is the boss in this game.

"Should I hug you in front of all?" Sandy asked innocently as he was ready to pull her to his side when Alex pushed him instantly as if protecting his sister. Sandy felt satisfied to see the irritation in their eyes.

"I don't know what your brother got for his wife. But I have got something so hot for her" Sandy winked at both as they were hurt and angry at the same time. His face and actions were too brutal and they couldn't bear the weight of it.

"Do you want to try?" Sandy asked again as he bit his lower lip.

"It's too hot to handle" He winked again and before Alex could get into a fight he noticed the food tag in the bag. It's a hot snack. Thankfully they didn't bother to start a fight. Sandy closed his eyes in frustration as he didn't hide that food tag. Damn it would be so fun to fight with him and later disclose this food.

Alex finally set everything perfect and now the presence of Sandy doesn't really bother anyone. It's like just another stranger there. Alex stood there scanning the guests. There were not so many people but just family and her team members who really liked Clara.

Alex couldn't help but glare at those shiny parcels in the hands of Mac, Nathan, and even Edward. Even Sandy had a small box in his hand. What could they have bought for her? The curiosity gets him to the top and that's when he realized that he didn't buy her anything.

He wanted to be at the top in giving her anything. It shouldn't be something normal that anyone could gift her. He was ready for this unknown race which is set between Mac, Nathan, Edward, Sandy, and Alex. Though they are not aware of the competition.

Clara entered the hall in her not-so-pleasant state. The room was dark in her Favor. She just doesn't want to face anyone today. It should be a disaster if anyone comes her way. Her heart was full of rage and her eyes wandered to murder anyone coming her way.

Tears threatened to come anytime. That's when the lights went on startling her. The decorations and every happy face made her face lose its colours.

"No no. Please." She mumbled to herself not wanting to hurt anyone here. She knows that she is capable of ruining any pleasant moment with the mental state she has.

"Happy birthday to you" Frank and Grace sang together with cheerful voices. Clara stumbled back wanting badly to hide behind anything that came her way. She knew that she would break everything now and would not even regret be doing so. But her heart doesn't want to hurt these people who were the first to show love to her.

The little concern she had for the people around her died at the moment her eyes locked with the person who was the main assassin of her mental peace.

Ron smiled and sang the song together but Clara was in another world of conflict. The person whom she loved to the moon, the person whom she adored in her childhood was no more. But she hell never thought that he would go to this extent to stoop low in her eyes. Her throat went dry as her tears flowed flawlessly with no restrictions. Her hands and legs started shaking seeing him face to face.

"Your dad set this kidnap drama so that you get married. As per the will of your grandmother, her property will transfer to Paxton if you are married." Xavier's words ringed her head as she found herself grabbing the chocolate truffle cake swiftly and with no regret she smashed them over Ron's face.

"Clara" Bella and Elsa gasped together while all the others were just in shock "Clara, Clara" Alex's gentle voice brought her back to reality as she stood there daydreaming of attacking her father with the cake. She looked around and found everyone smiling and dancing.

She then looked at the cake and Ron and went back to Alex. For some reason, she doesn't want to do anything rash to startle Alex.

She started counting numbers from backward to bring her concentration away from that attacking mode. One of Kriya's pieces of advice.

She is shocked by her actions. She never ever held back in the past to act rashly. Whenever her emotions were bottled up, she tended to do things messed-up, and that's what describes Clara. But what happened to her all of a sudden?

Looking at Alex, she knew that this person started changing her without her knowledge. Should she turn blind eye to it? Should she let him change her? Should she just accept the changes in her life?

"Happy birthday" Mac came forward with the small present and now Alex is the only person curious there out of all.

"I can't stay till the cake cutting. So just giving you the present. I will be off." Mac reasoned his motive.

"Why?" Rose asked with a pout.

"Thanks to my boss. I have loads of work even till midnight for the full week." Mac replied, glaring at Alex who is now not in the mood to reply back but his eyes were glued to the small present.

Before Clara could get the present, Alex grabbed them and opened them swiftly like a curious kid who is waiting to see what he has got for him.

"Watch" Alex scoffed with a sideways smile and Mac knew instantly that this guy was competing on gifts bought for Clara. Best buddies know you in and out.

"She always works like a machine and never even bothers to eat or drink. So, it's a reminder watch. It will remind you at breakfast, lunch, and at certain intervals so that you could have a break and have something eat" Mac explained the purpose of his gift and Clara looked at Mac with her doe eyes. Ron doesn't even deserve her hatred. She should be happy at least for these people who wish for her happiness.

The moment Mac explained, Alex knew that it was not just a watch. The emotions he put into this gift are something that Mac doesn't really get for anyone. How can this girl be special to Mac?

"Thanks. I didn't know that you were watching me all along" Clara mumbled thanks as she grabbed the golden demolished watch with the stylish cut at the end. She didn't hesitate to remove her Tissot watch which her father gifted her for her marriage, to replace them with the watch which Mac bought for her. It was surely worth a few dollars only. But for Clara, it is for sure worth more than the one her father gave her.

"You don't have to," Mac said as he tried to stop her but she dodged him suddenly as the expensive watch fell over the feet of her father. She didn't even mind picking them up as she wrapped the watch of Mac with a soft smile.

"Thanks again" Clara thanked him as she touched the watch. Now Alex is not at all okay with the idea of this party. But there is another person also who is jealous of the sudden friend of Clara, that is Jason. He was the only guy in her life. But now it seems like she has so many knights.

"Let's cut the cake," Frank beamed.

Elsa didn't like how they were all pampering Clara. It must be her place to get that love. She turned away, not able to see the lovey-dovey scene. For what Elena is waiting for.

The person was finally there, making Elsa beam. Though Elsa didn't want to be a part of this dirty plan of Elena, she is now happy that Clara would be out of Alex's family.
