Chapter 59
One of Us
AVERY
Avery stood tall and looked at him and the men around him. âDid you or did you not make me your old lady?â
âI didâ¦,â Justin replied cautiously.
âAnd as your old lady, am I or am I not supposed to support you and the club with whatever you need?â she asked again.
âYou areâ¦,â Justin replied again.
âAnd is this not my family? The entire club?â she asked again.
âIt is.â
âThen I get to defend my family and myself. No one gets to fuck with Devilâs Reign!â she yelled.
The men were in awe of her little speech and just stood there as Avery leaned over the still-gasping woman on the floor and spat on her, then snarled, âYou fucked with the wrong old lady, you bitch!â
Avery raised the bat again and swung as hard as she could at the womanâs legs, making them crunch and break. The woman tried to scream but had no air, then passed out from the pain.
Justin moved to take the bat from her but stopped when he saw the look on her face.
Avery moved to Heather and sneered, âSo you thought that MY husband would come running to you when I was out of the picture? You, a lying whore?â
Heather mumbled through the gag, and that pissed Avery off even more.
âSHUT UP! You donât get to say a word. You are nothing but a goddamn whore. And you will never, EVER get to hurt my family again!â
Averyâs chest was heaving in anger. She swung the bat again at Heatherâs left arm, making her scream in agony. Avery went to the other side and repeated her actions on Heatherâs right side.
She dropped the bat, spat on the woman, then turned to her husband. She was barely holding it together and felt the tears start to spill over as she walked into Justinâs arms.
He pulled her tightly to him. âI got you, baby. Iâm hereâ¦â
He repeated it several times as she calmed down, then looked up at him. âIâm done now.â
Justin leaned down and kissed her softly. âAll right, baby. Wait in the hall, Iâll be out in just a minute.â
Avery kissed him again, then went to the hall, and one of the men closed the door.
JUSTIN
Justin took out one of Mikeyâs large knives and stepped in front of Heather. He sneered at her as she gasped in pain, then walked past her.
Mikey had righted Dominiqueâs chair, and she was moaning. He walked up to her and squatted so she could see his face.
âYou thought you could fuck with me again, Dominique. You thought you could take my daughter from me, and you were wrong.
âYou could have stayed where you were, but you got greedy and wanted to have what you didnât deserve to have.
âIâm going to end your pathetic life and will delight in the fact that Lexi will NEVER know that you are her mother and that Avery will be.
âShe already thinks of her as such and you have never been a thought in her mind.â
Dominique was crying as she heard Justinâs words and watched as he stood up and went behind her.
She felt his hands on her shoulders and then pain erupt on her throat as she started gagging and choking on blood. The last thing she saw was the men of Devilâs Reign ignoring her as she died.
Justin looked at his men. âTake care of the trio and dispose as usual. Clean up and go home.
âHave Marty open the club again this evening with no cover as a sorry for not being open last night. Just say an electrical issue came up. Iâm taking my wife home to be with our daughter.â
The men acknowledged his words and watched him walk out after dropping the knife on the tarp. They all were just glad that this was over and that they were whole.
Justin went out and led Avery to a large sink with soap and bleach around it. They washed their hands several times, then once more with bleach, just in case.
Once their hands were dry, Justin kissed the top of her head. âReady to go home to our daughter?â
Avery smiled weakly. âMore than anything.â

Twenty minutes later, Avery all but jumped off the bike when Justin stopped and ran to the front door, throwing it open.
She hurried into the kitchen area and saw Lexi and Mama June coloring at the kitchen table. They looked up at the sudden noise and Lexiâs eyes went wide.
She ran out of her chair and into Averyâs waiting arms. They both were crying as Avery shifted so she was sitting on the floor, holding the little girl and rocking them.
âI missed you so much!â Lexi cried. âI was afraid that you werenât coming back.â
âOh no, sweetheart, Iâm always gonna come back to you. Iâm sorry that I took so long getting my errands done and coming home. I promise it wonât happen again,â Avery vowed as her tears continued to fall.
âI love you, Lexi.â
âI love you too.â Lexi sat, clinging to Avery like a life raft.
They remained on the floor as Mama June got up, wiped a tear that fell from her eye, and patted Justinâs arm. âIâll see you all later.â
Justin kissed her cheek and walked her to the door to leave. He came back to see his girls still on the floor.
He was about to suggest they get up when Lexi looked up at Avery and asked, âCan I call you Mommy?â
Averyâs sob caught in her throat, but she swallowed and nodded. âI would love that.â
Justin felt his heart explode with love at their tender moment and went over and helped them up and to the couch, where he sat and held them both.
He ordered pizza for dinner, and they watched princess movies all evening.
Justin carried them both up to his room and got them settled in the massive bed. He fell asleep holding both his girls and knowing that life was only going to get better.
