The pitter-patter of the rain fell, engulfing the entire City Z in a mist. The air had lost the heat from several days before, so right now it was refreshingly cool, especially by the South Riverbank. As the cool wind rustled past the vast green area, the freshness of the grass added a layer of dew to the air, energizing anyone who smelled it.

Mu Yuchen stood by the riverbank with his hands behind him. He wore was a rare pair of sunglasses, concealing all his emotions in his eyes while his well-ironed dark silver suit made him look much cooler. With an indifferent expression, he silently watched the river and did not move for a long time. At this moment, by the riverbank, there was only his bleak and lonely figure.

Gu Qiwu stood on the staircase above and watched him for a long time. After that, he slowly walked down the stairs.

When he heard the sound of footsteps behind him, Mu Yuchen did not turn around while his eyes that hid underneath the sunglasses only flickered once. After a pregnant pause, he looked up at the gigantic clock across him, and his deep voice was heard. “You’re very punctual.”

“Of course, I have to be more punctual when it comes to meeting you,” Gu Qiwu’s responded before he then took a deep breath as both his arms held the railing before them. His gaze trailed Mu Yuchen’s to look ahead. “I thought that you wouldn’t ask me out. This doesn’t seem like you.”

Upon hearing that, Mu Yuchen’s eyes underneath the sunglasses only darkened, but he did not answer him.

“What? Do you want to say something? The last time, you hit me a few times. I’m sure you wouldn’t be willing to leave things at that,” Gu Qiwu said softly as he turned to look silently at Mu Yuchen’s face. After a while, he averted his gaze and looked down at the river that slowly flowed past them. He sighed. “Ah Chen, you’re a great person. You’ve got tricks up your sleeves and you’re impressive. Many times, I wished for you to become my ideal son-in-law. Shasha’s great. She’s excellent in many aspects. I don’t understand why you didn’t fancy her or fall in love with her? If you’d married Shasha back then, everything would’ve turned out great.”

“Could you then like my aunt, and be loyal to only her?”

Before Gu Qiwu could finish, Mu Yuchen’s cold voice had already cut him off. His calm gaze peered through the sunglasses. “You and Aunt knew each other for more than 20 years. You stole everything of hers, but what did you give her in return? Why didn’t you marry her?”

Mu Yuchen’s rhetorical questions made Gu Qiwu’s expression freeze. He simply had no answer.

“Do you think there’s a need to ask why?” Mu Yuchen said, then a cold curve flashed across the corner of his lips. “My aunt loved you very much. She wasn’t willing to expose your name even until she died, after which she passed Lingtian and Lingshi to my grandparents and parents. You clearly knew all of this, yet you never once came to take a look at the siblings. Forget about asking for a hint of the so-called fatherly love they yearned for! The two of you are the worst parents on Earth.

When Gu Qiwu heard, his expression darkened and he did not answer.

“What do you think I should’ve planned then? What could I have planned?” Gu Qiwu asked in response.

Mu Yuchen scoffed, abruptly averting his gaze. Inhaling deeply, he looked at the faint mist before them and asked calmly, “You should be quite clear about how Aunt felt about you. Since you couldn’t give her a future to look forward too, why did you have to hurt her? If it wasn’t just about your feelings, then it must be because of the Mu family, wasn’t it?”
