The cars continued to chase from behind, but thanks to Ah Mo’s driving skills, they managed to escape. Otherwise, they would have been recaptured with the heavy downpour happening right then.“They’re pretty far back now. There’s going to be a fork in the path ahead. Let’s see if we can lose them there,” Qi Lei said when he noticed a road sign.

Ah Mo hesitated for a moment. As he was about to say something, Qi Lei suddenly said, “Stop the car right now!”

“What are you trying to do?” Ah Mo gave Qi Lei a confused glance.

“Stop the car, quick!”

Ah Mo followed his instructions right away.

Qi Lei opened the door as the car slowed down. He quickly ran towards the road sign and turned it another way, then he dashed back to the car. “Let’s go!”

Ah Mo laughed. “That’s a really smart move!”

Qi Lei smiled and shrugged. “It’s all thanks to your driving skills. Let’s go. There’s going to be a sharp turn right in front. It’s about time you switch off the lights.”

“Sit tight!” Ah Mo then stepped hard on the accelerator.

They opened the window slightly to let out the smell of alcohol. However, Ah Mo suddenly smelled blood in the air, so he frowned and glanced in the rearview mirror. Then, he noticed that Qi Lei was rubbing Yang Sheng’s palm with one hand while holding a fist with his other hand, and there was a bloody bandage on his arm.

“You’re injured.” Ah Mo sounded worried as his frown grew deeper.

“It’s fine. A stray bullet just brushed past my shoulder when we rushed out.”

“We need to take care of it somewhere. I can’t handle bringing two patients back to City Z.”

“Let’s see if there’s a village nearby. Give Mu Yuchen a call and ask for support.” Qi Lei was exhausted. “We have no idea where this place is, and there’s no sign of civilization even after we’ve traveled this far. It took us a week to get in here. I’m afraid it won’t be that easy for us to get out.”

“Of course, it’s not going to be easy. This car can last roughly 200 kilometers judging by the fuel meter, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Ah Mo took off his coat and put it aside. He continued wearing just his half-damp shirt.

At the same time, the Gu residence in City Z was engulfed by the winter rain too.

Two black cars were slowly advancing and they soon parked right in front of the door.

“Missus, we’re here!”

The chauffeur quickly opened the door for Doris while Glenn came over with an umbrella as well.

Doris got out of the car. She was wearing a long dark purple dress with a white fox fur shawl, appearing beautiful and elegant as always.

She glanced at the mansion as she put on a cold smile, contemplating for a moment before heading in.

“Open the door!” Glenn commanded.

The guards were hesitant when they saw Doris. Instead of letting her in immediately, they informed Gu Qiwu right away.

Gu Qiwu had just laid down to get some rest after reading through some documents, but he quickly got up when Butler Fang came to inform him of Doris’s arrival.

“Let her in!”

The guards made way after having received Gu Qiwu’s order.

Doris stared at the guards coldly after being left to wait under the rain for a while. She then slowly walked in and went upstairs, straight into Gu Qiwu’s study after entering the mansion.

Gu Qiwu was wearing a simple sleeping robe with a coat over his shoulders. He was casually boiling some water and was prepared to make some tea in his study.

“What’s the matter? Looking for trouble this late at night? This doesn’t seem like something you’d do.” Gu Qiwu put on a cold smile when he saw Doris and Glenn behind her. “This is my turf. Haven’t you learned how to give others some respect?”

“Do you even deserve any?” Doris grinned and sat down opposite him. “Leave us alone for now, Glenn. I’ll call you when I need you. Give that to me.” She extended an arm towards Glenn.

Glenn quickly handed a black folder to Doris. “Yes, Missus!”

Doris waved a hand at him, and he swiftly left the room.

Gu Qiwu glanced at the black folder in Doris’s hand. “Seems like you’re prepared.”

“Why else do you think I’m here? I see you’re totally ignoring the terms I offered before. You really want me to give your son-in-law some special treatment, don’t you?”

Gu Qiwu’s expression darkened, but the changes in his emotions went unnoticed.

“My daughter can totally find someone better. She’s the successor of the Hui Gu Corporation, after all, so it need not be Mu Lingmo! You can do it if you’d like. Do you think I’d care about his life? Don’t think of me as such a kind person!”

“Aren’t you afraid that Mu Lingshi will hate you for it?” Doris did not expect her plan to fail. Even then, she would do whatever it took. She would never yield in front of Gu Qiwu. At least, she could sever their relationship forever!

“Me? Afraid? It has always been like this all these years. I never expected to be forgiven anyway. It’s not important, so you might want to find something else if you want to threaten me.” Doris’s behavior triggered Gu Qiwu’s anger!
