Chapter 24: Strength in Shadows

The Ruthless King's Claim [Completed]

Kiara's POV

The next morning, Reyaansh was already awake when I opened my eyes. He stood by the window, dressed in a crisp white shirt with the first few buttons undone, his silhouette framed by the soft morning light. He seemed lost in thought, his gaze fixed on the horizon.

“Good morning,” I said, sitting up and rubbing the sleep from my eyes.

He turned to me, a faint smile playing on his lips. “Good morning, Mrs. Rathore.”

I blushed at the way he said it, but the lingering tension from last night was still evident in his eyes. “Are you feeling better?” I asked, slipping out of bed and walking over to him.

He nodded, though it was clear his mind was still preoccupied. “Last night helped,” he admitted, pulling me into a gentle embrace. “Having you here… it’s the only thing keeping me grounded.”

---

After breakfast, Reyaansh announced that he had to leave for an urgent meeting. His tone was calm, but I could sense the undercurrent of stress. Before he left, he pressed a soft kiss to my forehead, promising to return by evening.

Once he was gone, I found myself pacing the room, restless. The events of the previous night had stirred something within me—a desire to do more, to be more than just a bystander in his life.

I decided to spend the day with his family, hoping to distract myself. Meera Ma and I prepared lunch together, her warm presence soothing my nerves. Aarav and Riya kept the atmosphere light with their banter, and for a while, it felt like any other normal day.

But as the hours passed, my worry for Reyaansh grew. I couldn’t help but wonder what kind of danger he was facing and if he was truly safe.

---

When evening came, I heard the familiar sound of his car pulling into the driveway. My heart raced as I rushed to the door, relieved to see him walking in. He looked exhausted but unharmed, and that was all that mattered.

“You’re back,” I said, unable to hide the relief in my voice.

He gave me a tired smile, wrapping an arm around my waist. “I told you I would be.”

We shared a quiet dinner with the family, but I could tell he was still distracted. Later, when we were alone in our room, I decided to confront him.

“Reyaansh,” I said, sitting beside him on the bed, “I know you’re trying to shield me from your world, but I’m not as fragile as you think. Let me help you.”

---

He looked at me, his expression unreadable. “Kiara, my world isn’t just dangerous—it’s ruthless. The less you know, the safer you’ll be.”

“But I’m already a part of it,” I argued. “Keeping me in the dark will only make things harder for both of us.”

His jaw tightened, and for a moment, I thought he would refuse. But then he sighed, running a hand through his hair. “There’s a power struggle happening,” he admitted. “One of my allies has been working against me, and I need to figure out who it is before they can cause more damage.”

I placed my hand over his. “Then let me be your ally. You don’t have to fight this alone, Reyaansh.”

He pulled me closer, his gaze intense. “You’re the one person I trust completely, Kiara. But if anything were to happen to you because of me…”

“Nothing will happen,” I said firmly. “We’ll face this together.”

In that moment, I saw the weight of his world reflected in his eyes, but I also saw the determination to protect me at all costs. And I knew that no matter what came our way, we would stand strong—together.
