Chapter 29: A Night of Confessions
The Ruthless King's Claim [Completed]
Reyaansh's POV
Kiara and I returned home late that evening after a long day. She had spent the afternoon with my mother and Riya, and I had been buried in endless meetings. As we stepped inside the mansion, the warmth of home greeted us, but something about the stillness of the house felt different tonight.
I watched Kiara as she moved toward the living room, still wearing that radiant pink saree from earlier, the vermillion in her hairline catching the dim light. She looked every bit the queen she was, and I couldnât help but feel a sense of pride that she was mine.
"Reyaansh, you seem quiet today," she said, turning to face me. Her brows furrowed slightly, concern etched on her face.
I shook my head. "Just tired, Kiara. Letâs sit for a while."
We settled onto the couch, and I leaned back, letting the weight of the day roll off me. Kiara tucked her legs under her, facing me with that curious, open look she always had when she knew I was holding something back.
"What is it?" she pressed softly.
"Nothing," I lied, but I knew it was futile. She could read me too well.
"Reyaansh." Her voice was firmer this time. "Donât think you can hide things from me. Iâm your wife, remember?"
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. "Itâs just work. Things are getting complicated, and some allies arenât as loyal as they appear. But itâs nothing you need to worry about."
Her expression softened, but there was a flicker of determination in her eyes. "I told you before, Reyaansh, Iâm with you in everything. If thereâs something I can do, tell me."
"You do enough just by being here," I replied, reaching for her hand. "Youâre my calm in the storm, Kiara."
Her lips curved into a small smile, but I could see the gears turning in her mind. She wasnât one to sit idly by, especially when it came to me.
Later that night, as I lay in bed, I watched her typing away on her laptop, her face illuminated by the soft glow of the screen. Whatever she was working on, she was entirely focused, her brows furrowed in concentration.
"Donât stay up too late," I murmured, my voice heavy with sleep.
"I wonât," she replied without looking up.
I closed my eyes, the weight of the day finally catching up with me. But even as sleep claimed me, I knew Kiara wouldnât rest until she found a way to help. That was who she wasârelentless, loyal, and entirely mine.
---
Kiaraâs typing filled the quiet of the room, a rhythmic sound that somehow comforted me even in my sleep-deprived haze. I stirred slightly, catching a glimpse of her face illuminated by the dim light of the laptop screen. Her lips moved as if she was silently reading something, and the faint glow reflected the sharp focus in her eyes.
"Youâre going to overwork yourself," I muttered groggily, propping myself up on one elbow.
She glanced at me, her lips curling into a soft smile. "Iâm almost done, Reyaansh. Just finishing something important."
"Youâve been saying that for the past hour," I said, rubbing my temples. Despite my concern, I couldnât deny how adorable she looked, engrossed in her mysterious work, her messy bun threatening to unravel.
Kiara sighed, her fingers pausing on the keyboard. "Alright, Iâll stop," she relented, closing the laptop and setting it aside. "But donât blame me if I find you stressed tomorrow and I couldnât help."
I arched a brow. "Help? How exactly do you plan on helping me, Mrs. Rathore?"
Her expression turned mischievous as she crawled across the bed to my side. "Thatâs for me to know and for you to find out," she teased, poking my chest lightly.
I caught her wrist, pulling her closer. "Youâre full of surprises, arenât you?"
"Always," she said, her voice barely above a whisper as our faces were mere inches apart. For a moment, the world outside faded, leaving only the warmth of her breath against my skin.
But before I could close the distance, she slipped out of my grasp and giggled. "Goodnight, Reyaansh," she said, turning off the light and snuggling into her side of the bed.
I let out a soft chuckle, lying back down. She was maddening and mesmerizing all at once, and I couldnât wait to unravel more of her mysteries. Whatever she was working on, I knew it was going to change everythingâand I couldnât help but look forward to what was coming.
